This is hands down the best hotel I’ve stayed in while visiting Europe. We were greeted by an incredibly friendly gentleman who made the check in process a breeze and made us feel quite welcome. We had forgotten to reserve a parking space so we were offered free outdoor parking a few blocks away which was more comfortable for us than navigating a garage. We were very kindly upgraded to a HUGE room, even by American standards. The bathroom lay out was excellent - everything was roomy and separate. Loved the shower. The bed was comfortable, the view of the town was cute, and there was a tablet we used to choose where to have dinner at - it made an excellent suggestion. A ton of care has clearly been put into this hotel, and it really shines. My sole complaint is that we only had one night to stay in this amazing hotel. Thanks Hotel Sonne!…
Hotel Sonne is right in the centre of Fussen, well located for cafes, restaurants and so on. It's beautiful inside and out, and has clearly had lots of money spent on its recent refurbishment. However, some of the basics for a good hotel were missing or poor: - You need to book parking spaces in advance, but this was not made clear to us at the time of booking. There are not enough spaces for all guests to park their cars, and, because the hotel is so central, other parking is hard to find. - There are no tea, coffee (or any) facilities in the rooms, only an overpriced small shop in the lobby - The restaurant plays loud music until late, which will disturb guests on the first floor On the plus side, breakfast was very good, and there is an (almost) free to use washing machine and tumble dryer available for guests.…
As it goes with design hotels, great things for most people could be quirks for a few. But in general a very positive vibe-place with a lot to offer. Quite high-tech, with e.g. electronic indicators on the door for green/red signals and a tablet with all hotel info. And an interesting room design; we had separate rain shower room and WC next to the sink room. Friendly staff and excellent 4-star breakfast with much fresh stuff and nice creative hot dishes. Quirky: hardly wardrobe space (some hangers on the wall) and the lighting is partly so low hanging that it takes time to avoid hitting your head.
Oh what a nice place this could be. If only… I knew that the tiny basic rooms don‘t have A/C when booking the room. But in the summer heat, they are heating up like crazy. Sleeping with the window open is not an option, as there is noise the whole night from the pedestrian area and road crossing beneath the room. Why isn‘t there at least a ventilator? Even the bathroom (in a ‚refurbished’ room doesnˋt have a vent in it). The comical small in-room fridge which didn‘t cool my 2 bottles of coke was also so hot outside that the room heated more up. Add a heavy smell from renovation works on the same floor and you can imagine how bad the three nights have been. Questions for a paid upgrade to the rooms with A/C have been declined with ‚we are fully booked‘. Yet, I would have been able to book these rooms on their web page. I have never ever felt so uncomfortable in any hotel I‘ve been. Including stays in 2 star hotels in southern countries in the 90s……
It has been a while since I was in Füssen last time. So the surprise to see the change in this great hotel was all on my side. What a lovely job they did. The room are great, breakfast is fantastic, restaurant very urban and food very tasty. Congratulation Füssen, you do have know a real contemporain hotel. Worth a stay, specially since the staff is more than lovely and caring
