The hotel is very nice...on a quiet street near the central zone pietonne. With a beautiful 2-star Michelen restaurant. Breakfast is excellent but no room service or bar snacks available. Room was nice but hasn't been refreshed in awhile and my only window looked out at a wall...so very little natural light. Bizarrely, the hotel couldn't store my bags for a few hours after I checked out...I don't know his this is standard or something exceptional. I had to find luggage storage at the train station which was okay but I've never except a 4-star hotel to have this limitation.
On our way to a skiing holiday in the Alps, we made an overnight stop at Hostellerie Châpeau Rouge and had dinner in the restaurant of William Frachot. It was a real treat. Delicious food, based on the traditional Burgundy kitchen, but with an inventive, pleasantly surprising and modern touch. Excellent wine pairing and very attentive service. Very good breakfast. Nice and quiet room with good beds and pillows. What a wonderful start of our holiday!
We choose this hotel because it is situated right in the centre of Dijon and also because it has a two star (michelin) restaurant. I was a bit disappointed in the size of the rooms: we were given an upgrade to a junior suite which was great because I think that in a standard room I owuld have had nowhere near enough space. the service is good, the staff very friendly and they do valet parking. However, where I had to pau the hotel something like 25 euro for this service, the actual cost was not more than 5 euro. which I discovered when I had to park my own car because the valet parking was not available.
So many fine service staff take great care. This is best we have encountered in France and Europe. Valet parking is useful. Room is large with excellent bedding. There are glasses for water, coffee, wine. So appreciated. Breakfast superb each part from eggs to bacon to croissant to meats and cheese are best in class. Best in Europe.
I chose Chapeau Rouge for the location and the valet parking they offer for a fee and the spa. Dang I hit a home run. From the minute I walked through the door we experienced the great service. They immediately walked to my car grabbed our bags and took them inside and went and parked the car. They have a small couple of spaces out front for loading and unloading your car. This hotel is right in all the action of Dijon you don't a car to get around. Most everything is a few minutes walk from hotel. One other perk of this hotel is the spa area with sauna and Hammam and showers. It's a really cool hotel from top to bottom. Great carpet and decor and neat winding hallways. We had to take the tiny elevator to floor two then wind our way to a small stair case that takes you to the third floor. Our room was 346 with an awesome wall of Stormtrooper heads as you approach the door. There's a nice closet as you enter the room. The room itself is good sized with room to move around and for your luggage. We love the large windows that open and have a view of a courtyard between buildings. Couch was comfortable and table was good size. Bathroom was good size very clean with deep tub (which is a major plus for me). They even have a towel warmer. The toilette has it's own room which I like and is common in Europe. I can't remember name of soap and shampoo but we like it very much. Now to the most important item in any hotel room in my opinion is the bed which was an actual King and not two twins pushed together and most importantly very comfortable(one of only two on are whole trip 9 hotels). The second most important thing for me at any hotel is being able to plug in my IPad to the TV and yes I was able to watch my IPad. Another thing I liked most about the room was the power outlets in proper locations that are convenient and a lot them. It also had a mini fridge and nice desk with chair. We loved the art too. We definitely used the Sauna and Hammam and it felt amazing. So nice we visited it early the next morning too. We did not try the restaurant. We did get a drink at the bar/lounge area and it was also nice. This hotel was literally one the best nights we've EVER had on any of our trips around the world. Our only disappointment was we only had 1 night. I'm writing this with all honesty and no exaggeration of any kind, stay at this hotel minimum two-three nights to truly enjoy it and Dijon. I wish I could remember the gentlemen's name who made our reservation at the Porte Guillaume Restaurant and was unbelievably friendly and helpful. I want to make sure you know all the staff was helpful and friendly too. Probably be a while before we get back to France but when I do I'm going to Dijon and I'm going stay here again for sure.…
