The venue is let-down by the characterless "bar/restaurant" - no nicer than a factory canteen - with loud tinny music from a cheap stereo. I find it hard to believe that a huge hotel chain would think that ANY customer would want this...
Overpriced breakfasts can be avoided by a short walk to decent venues...
Firstly, I would like to point out that there is another similarly named Travelodge within a 10 minute walk of Travelodge Central named Travelodge Central Arena. Make sure you double check you're going to the correct hotel before you end up in a pay-to-leave car park like we did!
The hotel is in an excellent location in Central Manchester, within walking distance of local amenities and public transport networks. There is very limited on-site parking available on a first come first served basis, so I would advise that you find out where another nearby car park is in case there are no spaces left.
The reception staff were very friendly and welcoming, and we didn't have to wait long to check in. Our room was clean, with a strong smell of bleach inside and in the corridor. The decor was tired, and the furniture and accessories were basic and sparse. Our room did not have blackout curtains, and there were no plug sockets on either side of the bed. The exterior of the windows desperately needed the attention of a window cleaner too, although there isn't an awful lot to look at outside! The bath drain was partially blocked too, so the bath emptied slowly after we had a shower.
We were not disturbed during the night by other guests moving around in their rooms or outside noise. The mattress was too soft for my fiancé and I, so we both woke up with sore backs.
We partook in the unlimited breakfast the following morning, which was excellent. There was a good selection of fresh hot and cold food, as well as hot drinks and juice. The kitchen staff were amicable too.
If you just need a cheap, private room to crash in for the night, that is also within walking distance of the city centre, then Travelodge Central is a good choice. It was an adequate stay for us, but I personally value a good night's sleep. However, I would stay here again.
Basic room but everything you’d need. Kettle, Freeview tv, plenty of storage and their comfy mattress.
Looked over the back of an office car park so no view, but quiet which I wanted.
Only downside was even though I like a shower the bath didn’t drain properly or fast enough so after a minute or two you were still standing in your dirty water and the toilet flush appeared broken so much to the point that I was cranking the handle so forcefully I thought I’d break it to make it flush, but apart from that the bathroom was spotless.
As I’ve stayed here before I have mentioned the hotel is safe as you need your keycard to enter the hotel at night, to gain access to the lifts and to your landing so no one can walk off the street which is reassuring as you are right in the city centre.
Value for money, can’t complain either. Took advantage of their Black Friday 2019 deal and paid £96.00 for 4 nights !
Even though there was a couple of niggles, would return and definitely recommend. Well done 👌
The room was really clean, the bed was so comfy and the shower was perfect - hot and powerful which helped wake me up after a long day sampling the best of the day and night life Manchester has to offer.
Located close off Deansgate and close to the shops etc this is a really good value location to base yourself on a stay to the City. Thanks for a great stay!
The employees at this Travelodge are a real credit to the business, with special mention to Mandy, Johnathan and Ryan, all are friendly, efficient and professional; always going that ‘extra mile’ to make sure that your stay is as best that it can be.
Despite the lodge’s excellent location in the heart of the city of Manchester, and however hard the employees work the rest of the hotel experience is woeful, annoying and disappointing.
The reception area could be so much more welcoming in term of décor and ambience, the adjacent open plan bar and restaurant is more school cafeteria rather than hospitable hotel restaurant.
As you walk to the rooms you tread on stained, worn out carpets, notice the peeling paint work on the walls, giving you little confidence for the state of the room.
As expect the rooms are tired old décor nothing like the promise made on the Travelodge website, old rundown fixtures and fittings with broken and ripped chair.
The bathroom experience was not any better, with broken toilet seat, black mould on the tiles and an unclean shower curtain, the only plus point was the superb water pressure from the shower.
Yes, the bed was very comfortable with nice pillows and duvet encased in crisp clean linen yet due to the most irritating and bothersome aspect of the stay the noise from internal and external sources, sleep was troublesome.
Every time some walked down the corridor adjacent to the room you got disturbed including housekeeping staff holding a conference outside the room in the morning of the stay.
Yet is the constant drone of external noise from air ventilation systems which make for a disturbed nights sleep and a requirement to increase the television volume.
In summary, the wonderful, awesome and friendly employees cannot hide the fact that the hotel is terribly noisy, has tired rooms which make for an uncomfortable and disturbed stay at what given the location should be one of the best Traveloge's in the country not one of the worst.
