Situated in the village of Balbeggie (6 miles from Perth city centre), The MacDonald Arms Hotel was purchased in 2007 and is run by current owners Euan & Kirsten Smith. Great food is served all day everyday from 12.00 noon, high teas & snacks also available. There are 8 en-suite bedrooms, all with freeview TV. Free WiFi is available throughout public areas. With open fires, a very warm welcome awaits you at the MacDonald Arms.
Easy to find, just a few miles from Perth as you arrive in the village of Balbeggie. We had a lovely welcome, checked in and shown to our room. The room was small but clean and perfectly adequate, en suite with shower, basin and WC, a shelf in the bathroom would've been handy. There was a TV with just a few channels, a hair dryer was provided and tea and coffee facilities. The curtains in the bedroom could be heavier. WiFi was available throughout the hotel. The restaurant menu wasn't fancy but good, homecooked food and a smaller portion was available for some of the options which was a good idea. The cooked breakfast was tasty and hot, no choice of egg. The bar area was small but the owners were very welcoming and friendly.

Stayed here for just one night prior to the first day of The Open at Carnoustie. Twin bed rooms at only £65 per night were good value. The four of us also ate at the restaurant the evening we arrived. A good and varied menu and all the food was to a good standard. It’s not fine dining, just quality home cooked food. Breakfast next morning was also excellent and willingly provided by the owners at 7am so that we could get an early start to the golf

Stopped here for lunch on Thursday: we were the only customers. However, we needn’t have worried - the food and service were excellent! The menu was typical bar food but well cooked and presented. The ability to choose the heat of the curry was a nice touch. The menu also offered smaller portions which was a good lunchtime option.

I love the McDonald Arms Hotel, myself and my family have eaten there quite a few times now. The food is excellent. Only the best produce is used and the food is always served at the right temperature (it's never warm/cold like you get at a lot of restaurants). The menu is not extensive but strikes the right balance to cater for most visitors needs, this ensures what they do offer is cooked very well and you won't be disappointed. (I thoroughly recommend the curry :)) Keren and Ewan, the owners, are always very welcoming and the place is immaculately clean every time I visit. It has a snug feel (especially in the winter when there is always a roaring fire in the hearth) and you never want to leave. Well done Keren and Ewen for the wonderful service you provide to the village of Balbeggie and also for visitors passing through. You'll go a long way to beat it!!…

Attended a Scottish Charity Air Ambulance fund raiser at McDonald Arms. Absolutely brilliant night. Fly off was 19:30 so we arrived early in expectation of simply ordering food. Oh Oh, fully booked. So we had a drink and sat down, about to tuck into crisps, and the prospect of a fish supper much later on the way home. Euan the owner leaned over with a couple of menus and told us he had a cancellation and we could order. So fuelled with some excellent food we came third in the quiz and had a great evening. Thoroughly recommend.

Booked a 3 night get away during the summer with my wife - and we were not disappointed with our choice of hotel. It was extremely clean and tidy and the owners were exceptionally friendly and accommodating. A cooked breakfast set us up for the day and we ate in the hotel on the first night of our stay. The food was delicious and definitely home cooked. We would have no hesitation in returning to stay here again. Its a small hotel but with the perfect location to all the places you would want to go to in Perthshire. Thank you to Euan and Kirsten for the most pleasant stay.
