Situated directly opposite Loch Linnhe, you can admire the fantastic views of the beautiful surrounding wooded hills and mountains from this hotel. Along with the dining room and pleasant lounge area, all front facing rooms offer super views of the breathtaking Loch Linnhe. The comfortable lounge and ballroom host entertainment most nights, often with a distinct Scottish flavour which is perfect for unwinding after a day’s sightseeing or exploring. A number of rooms have been recently refurbished to increase the capacity at this popular hotel and there is a convenient lift that serves all floors. At nine miles long and over a mile wide and with Ben Nevis towering above, Loch Linnhe is one of Scotland’s natural treasures. The hotel is also just two miles south of the town centre of Fort William, known as the outdoor capital of Britain, and here you can explore the many small and interesting shops and museums.

The Caledonian Hotel garners mixed reviews, with its stunning loch-side location near Fort William earning high marks for scenery and tranquility. While the hotel's charm and occasional live music are appreciated, many guests find the atmosphere and amenities, including parking, outdated. Though praised for cleanliness, particularly the bathrooms, and the friendliness of some staff members, the hotel comes under fire for basic rooms in need of renovation and inconsistent service that can detract from its value.

Nice hotel but does need some improvement. I guess covid hasn't helped in keeping maintenance a regular basis. I only say this as the restaurant, lobby and bar area are really nice. In some places of the hotel wallpaper is coming off, tiles are broken and the flooring looks tired
The first night was a nightmare. The bedroom window had been left wide open (not by us) so when we returned from the bar around midnight it was full of flies and midges.
We did get moved to another room very quickly and could not fault them for that. The bar area was very nice and priced okay - pint of Carlsberg is £4.40 we did not eat there as we had our days agenda to do but from what we saw on the menu looked great. Main meal was around £11.95 to £14.95 depending what you had or you could have 3 courses for £20 which I thought was good.
The service by everyone in the hotel was great. The chap behind the reception who offered his services to clean my car, to the the people behind the bar and the gent on the evening who cleans and Hoover's the bar area to a high standard taking pride in his work.
Special thanks to the Manageress for offering us a discount for next year as sadly my car suffered a mechanical failure meaning an early end to our stay.
In general the car park is big and adequate, service is spot on it overlooks the loch and is 1.3miles away from the centre of Fort William. Taxi cost is £8.50
I'm sure over the quiet season some improvements will be made as the new rooms looked much better. Look forward to returning.

Travelled with Shearings for 4 nights Monday to Friday
A great location with stunning views
Friendly attentive staff who could not do more for you and decent but not great food.
Entertainment each evening was varied but generally decent and booked to match the age of the clientele. The singer on the final evening (Thursday ) was the best.
The room was very good and well maintained. I never really have any problem sleeping when away but this time I did struggle and found the bed hard and the pillows very hard.
A good base for touring the area which was beautiful a place We would revisit if we return to Fort William

Stayed at the Caledonian Hotel late august 2021. Hotel is situated about a mile or so south of the main town centre but getting their is easy with taxi or bus. ( or you can enjoy a stroll along the Loch which the hotel overlookes.
During my stay two cabaret acts were on in the evening and very enjoyable they were to.
Meal wise, breakfast is served in the main dining room and is well laid out, with a selection of buffet, continental and hot food available as well as an excellent choice of fruit juice and tea or coffee.
Evening meal again is in the main dining hall and is by waitress service and again a good choice of starter, main meal and dessert is available, cooked by the hotels own head chef and able staff. Booking can be made at reception for specific times.
Most of the rooms , but not all, face outward looking across Loch Linnhe and the magnificent scenery.
The hotel has a spacious lounge area with a bar with large windows for sitting and enjoying the view and sunset if the weather is kind.
The reception staff could not do more, and are friendly and accommodating.
There is a lift to all floors and ample car parking.
My only grump, and a small one, would be a better selection of local/home draught beer. Their is a fine selection of Scotch Whisky though.
All in all a enjoyable stay which I hope to repeat in the not to distant future.

The rooms were small, they were very 'tired' and in need of repair. The first room we were in had a 6ft wet patch on the wall to the bathroom (presumably the seem from the shower was leaking) and the wallpaper and paint was peeling off.
The window sills were mouldy, rotted and flakes of wood and paint fell off if you opened the window.
There was no wifi available in the rooms, only the public areas, such as reception, bar and restaurant, despite their website specifically listing wifi connections in the facilities for the rooms and also stating clearly internet connectivity throughout the hotel.
Our first room was no more than 25ft away from the front entrance to the hotel and the designated smoking area, where people gathered to smoke, drink, talk and shout until after midnight.
There was an apologetic letter in the room on arrival giving advance excuses if the service was poor trying to blame Covid 19 and lack of staff, yet the hotel had chosen to sell rooms until they had reached capacity - a foolish thing to do if your workforce is not at full operational levels.
There was no housekeeping during our 4 night stay. There wasn't a reason for this, but I imagine the Covid Pandemic would be blamed for this too, however, there is no evidentiary studies to show that the risk of transfer from surfaces is a palpable risk. Certainly not one that couldn't be effectively mitigated by the wearing of masks, latex gloves, using antibacterial anti viral agents or even the use of a portable fogging machine 30-40 mins prior to housekeeping entering the rooms. Obviously the main weapon against would be ventilation of the rooms by opening windows to reduce any potential risk of viral loading, but this would mean that the window sills would have to be functional and reliable......something I can see may be a problem.
The value for this room (£130 plus £10 extra for the dog) in a 3 star (if you are generous with classification) coach hotel is simply non existent.

I was very concerned about staying at this hotel and had considered cancelling after reading some of the previous reviews.
I’m really happy that I didn’t cancel,
We knew from reviews that reception and bar area would be ok but entered our room with some trepidation which was unfounded.
The room was recently decorated, new furniture and a new bathroom ,lovely shower, 3 seats, 2 of them comfy bucket seats at a small table overlooking the loch, a stunning vista.
A couple of marks here and there that would be sorted in 30 mins or so but given COVID etc can understand that this will probably be sorted when situation normal(or near as) returns.
The same staff are often seen at reception, breakfast and dinner and room cleaning!
A small team working very hard to keep the guests happy, a couple of hiccups during stay but nothing to worry about, all staff pleasant and always had a smile, they deserve praise.
Dinner had a couple of said hiccups but overall my choices were good, delicious starters, main courses and sweets.
Breakfast was good, usual self service, cereals, porridge, prunes, yoghurt, toast etc then help yourself to cooked breakfast, all good quality produce.
We last visited this hotel in 2003 but I would hope I can visit again sooner!

The staff at this hotel couldn't do enough for the guests. Due to the current COVID situation they are understaffed but we saw receptionists clearing tables and dining staff cleaning the bedrooms, all to make the customers stay more enjoyable. The hotel was clean and tidy. Lovely views and free parking on site. It is quite a walk into Fort William, about 2 miles but that didn't bother us.

My wife and I stayed with our cockerpoo for 2 nights in a room with lake view.
Our check in was prompt and simple. The room was small with a double bed, TV and basic amenities and was very clean and comfortable with a small table and chairs to enjoy the view.
We enjoyed our stay and found the hotel to be an excellent base and good value for money.
The breakfast was basic but with a good choice of hot and cold options.
Obviously table service only but the service staff were very helpful friendly and prompt with any requests.
A waiter called Andy was excellent. We ordered our evening meal and his reply was "your food will be with you when it's ready and not a minute sooner" which turned out to be about 10minutes and was very enjoyable. Thanks Andy
The reception staff were equally as polite.
I had a chat with the manageress at reception who was very approachable and friendly.
I recommend this hotel for cleanliness and good value for money and I would defiantly stay again.
Thankyou very much to everyone at the hotel.

3 night stay in this hotel didn't get off to a good start. The hotel is very run down and dated. The rooms are really poor, mould in the bathroom, rotting window frames, really dated furniture. The first night's sleep was interrupted by a football team running riot throughout the hotel. To be fair this was beyond management's control and they left the following day after which we got a good nights sleep. On the plus side the staff were really friendly and helpful. Friday was fish & chip night so we ate in the restaurant d this was surprisingly good and cost only £15 for 2! Breakfast was reasonable with plenty of choice. The hotel is located a short distance outside town center so it's really a car or taxi ride in. Fort William itself does not have a lot of bars/restaurants and everywhere was very busy so it's advisable to book where possible.
I'm afraid I can't recommend the Caledonian hotel i just need a complete overhaul to bring it up to today's standards.

We stayed here for 4 days over Christmas, what an experience, the views of the Loch were brilliant.
The food was gorgeous and the staff were always smiling and nothing was too much for them, they worked tirelessly and never heard any of them complain.
Evening entertainment was good, and the staff did a good job of the afternoon entertainment whist we were having afternoon tea.
This trip was great value for money and would definitely recommend it, we will be doing it again

Possible the worst hotel Iv been to in a very long time. We paid £205 for a room that’s like a crappy student Uni accommodation. Very basic in every way. We stupidly decided to eat at the restaurant! Service was a shambles no leadership the waiters having no clue what their doing, clearly as they haven’t been told, trained and not support! Our waiter though very pleased couldnt tell us what beers or wine they had! Simply saying “I don’t know!” The £20 bottle of wine I finally got was awful so I asked for a refund and who I think was the manger rocked up at the bar no mask (like all the staff!!!!) then rudely accused me off drinking a glass, I’d had one sip! He then just walked off leaving the bar tender with no support not knowing how to refund me!
The view however from our room is beautiful, stunning, so you’d think fresh produce, amazing seafood would clearly be on the menu!!!!! No No No not at this out dated, shabby hotel! We had soup out of a can to start, yum yum, battered fish clearly frozen maybe brought from the local co op in town that gets an annual delivery and defrosted cheese cake like your nun would give you. Iv never felt so ripped off! Honestly I nearly slept in my car I was so angry!
Iv been lucky to stay in many hotels all over the world, this was like faulty towers on acid! Avoid avoid avoid!!!
