Bad points - room was cold due to the old windows there was gaps where you could see outside.
The oldish man on reception wasnt very chatty at night . Tried to speak to him for conversation but he wasnt interested . Asked him for a jug of fresh milk was happy to pay he said they didnt do milk even though its avaiable for breakfast.
Myself and partner had full breakfast . Bacon was far to under cooked and the poached eggs where too raw . Our son was dissappointed as there was limited choices on cereals not really any childrens cereal there was only cornflakes museli etc . Should have something for the kids such as rice krispies coco pops etc .
Would we return - yes but would hope.for a better breakfast experience
The room was fantastic, nicely decorated, clean, comfy bed, small en suite shower room which was good.
The breakfast was excellent, good choice to cater for all needs.
So up to our room number 18 on the top floor. Room was huge. Double bed and a single bed (although I had booked a double)
I put my bottle of water on the bedside cabinet and it slid towards the edge. I picked it up and put it back down towards the back of the cabinet and again it slid down to the front. The floor was not level and sloped down from the wall behind the bed to the inner wall. It was very unbalancing and made you feel like you were drunk. The bathroom was the same. The shower is located over the bath. It was difficult to stand in the bath and enjoy the shower.
Breakfast was served in the basement. Cereals were available as were slices of processed cheese and cheese triangles sitting in a basket? The breakfast wasn’t particularly memorable and the two ladies serving made no attempt to socialise with the guests at all.
The whole experience was very impersonal and despite being told it was a 24hr reception there was no one there when we checked out just an ice-cream tub with a hand written note to leave keys in it
Definitely would not recommend
The shower tray also filled up when having a shower so that also needed unblocking.
When my husband emailed the manager about these matters, no reply was forthcoming. He spoke to Receptionist, who was helpful, and they were dealt with the next day, but only as a result of him personally going to Reception. Disappointingly, no apology was given by management/owner, no response to the email and no offer of compensation.
Next day, after the room had been serviced, the shower mat had been taken away but not replaced. When we asked for a replacement, the Receptionist (a different one) told us she needed to come and inspect to ensure that this had not been provided, which seemed unnecessary and intrusive; however we were told this was because the housemaid would be made to account for this! The Receptionist appeared to be following the hotel’s protocol, and this may be suggestive of a systemic problem in managing staff.
Breakfast was provided in another building (Hotel Sandyford Lodge) to which we had to exit the property and walk on the street – not a problem but would have been good to know beforehand. On weekdays, breakfast is served only until 8.30am and as we were on holiday, we did not go to breakfast until 8.30 am, and felt very rushed. Our cooked breakfast was brought out while we were still on our first course, and they started putting everything away very quickly while we were still having breakfast, which did not make for a particularly relaxed start to the day. The staff seemed to be under much pressure but were not impolite.
Overall, we were not overly impressed with Sandyford Lodge and would not choose to return there again. The owner/management need to take note of these failings: definitely needs improvement and ‘could do better’.
I would stay again in Sandyford Lodge when I return to Glasgow in the future for 2 reasons, other than the above-mentioned:
1. The staff provides a very homely environment. It is like visiting your Uncle and Aunty house, where you know you and your family will be taken care of and fed well during meal times.
2. It is the cheapest accommodation from my 2 weeks tour of the UK. Very valued accommodation indeed!!!
It was only a short walk to pubs and restaurants. We were attending an event at the Hydro and it was only around a 10 minute walk from the hotel.
The room was very comfortable, spacious & clean with tea & coffee making facilities.
Breakfast in the morning was very good with fruits, cereals & juices all provided before a nice cooked breakfast.
Would gladly stay again when visiting Glasgow.
"It is best to request for rooms on the ground floor. Avy big and heavy luggages will need to be brought up the stairs very manually."Read full review
