A landmark hotel in Scotland’s biggest, most vibrant city, Glasgow’s Kimpton Blythswood Square Hotel and Spa combines the elegance of a stately 19th-century Georgian townhouse with the luxe modern amenities of a five-star property. Celebrated for its superior service, well-loved Spa at Blythswood Square, unique event venues and spacious rooms that feel both grand and grounded. The restaurant, iasg, named after the Gaelic word for fish, serves seafood from the waters of Scotland in the most sustainable way possible. Whether you’re indulging in a celebratory seafood dinner, a quick bite to eat, or leisurely weekend drinks sound-tracked by our resident DJs, everyone will feel at home. The five-star property continues to define Glaswegian luxury as the only hotel in the city with AA accreditation. The Kimpton Blythswood Square Hotel & Spa, an IHG Hotel, garners appreciation for its spacious and modern rooms, though some guests point out cleanliness issues and a lack of amenities. While the hotel's atmosphere and prime location near the city center are highlights, the value proposition is contentious, with numerous travelers questioning the high costs relative to services received.
The spa and amenities typically receive accolades, yet there are remarks about restricted access and unmet expectations. Service is often commended for its professionalism, but inconsistencies are noted, particularly regarding spa hours and room servicing.

Hotel's Favourite
My husband and I could not believe just how fabulous this hotel was! From the second we got to the door we had the warmest welcome with a complimentary glass of wine whilst we checked in and a lovely gentleman took our bags to our room. The gentleman who checked us in was friendly and so helpful. The atmosphere was wonderful and the grandeur decor was stunning, I especially loved the sweeping staircase and adorned walls with artwork and the stunning chandelier to set it all off. Due to my husbands status with this hotel group we were upgraded to one of the most beautiful hotel rooms I’ve ever had the pleasure of staying in. The bathroom was stunning as was the room itself. Unfortunately we had arranged to go out with friends for the evening or we would have happily spent our evening in the hotel bar area. I had the best sleep in the most comfortable bed. In the morning I had booked a treatment at the spa. Despite the main spa being refurbished I really enjoyed the garden spa in its simplicity. The staff were again wonderful and friendly. I had the garden spa to myself (maybe because it was first thing on Sunday morning) I opted for a deep tissue massage which was out of this world and spent the next hour in the relaxation room sipping lemon and ginger tea… simply bliss! Cannot thank the staff enough for making the experience so special for us from start to finish and we cannot wait to go back.

I’m genuinely sad to be leaving this hotel, where I’ve spent two fabulous nights. It’s one of the best I’ve ever stayed in. This is largely due to the warm, friendly staff as well as the very sophisticated superior room. I used to work for a rock star and his bathroom was nothing compared to this gorgeous black marble with open sliding hatch looking into the lounge / bedroom.
There are free cocktails served in reception between 5-6, an umbrella and yoga mat in the room (they really have thought of everything) and a very reasonably priced mini bar. Free Bottled water in the room is very handy and the toiletries are full sized, not tiny. Breakfast has some original choices, like kedgeree, instead of just the usual items you see in many hotels.
Take the 500 airport bus and get off at the first stop, then it’s about a 5 min walk.
I will be making regular trips to Glasgow and will definitely be staying here every time.

Visited here as a birthday present from my partner. We checked in at around 3pm and the staff were lovely, Chelsea was very approachable and attentive and gave us information such as the social hour (5-6pm, complimentary wine in the lobby).
Our bags were taken up to our room and once we arrived inside, what a room it was! Very spacious, one of the comfiest beds I’ve ever been in and a large bathroom with a bath and separate shower. The mini bar also had complimentary soft drinks and some chocolate/crisps as well which was a nice touch. The hotels “forgot it, we’ve got it” service is a godsend. We had forgotten toothbrushes/toothpaste and deodorant and all it took was a quick call to reception and within around 10 minutes, the concierge was at our door with these items. Room had all the amenities you need, tv, plugs/usb ports, water, bath robes, slippers, iron/board, safe etc.
We arrived back at our hotel at night and were hungry so we decided to order the after 10pm room service. We ordered the four cheese pizza, club sandwich and chocolate pot. All the food was hot and tasted nice (especially the club sandwich). However, paying £11 for the pizza and it turned out to be a Chicago town frozen pizza (you could tell straight away with their signature crust) was very disappointing as this costs around £2-£3 out of a shop.
The next morning we enjoyed the spa however it would be a better touch if staff let you know what each facility was and what’s best to use first etc as when we got in, we weren’t very sure what to use first (especially as we only had around 30 mins before our treatments. Some steam rooms didn’t seem to be on (the essential oils one) and the jacuzzi only bubbled for a short time before just turning into a hot bath.
I opted for the express facial and back, neck and shoulders, I can’t remember the lady’s name however she was very friendly and knowledgeable. The treatments were amazing and I genuinely left feeling lighter and refreshed.
The staff go out of their way here and myself and my partner plan on returning next month for a treat, with hopefully many more visits in the near future.

Having booked blythswood square for a 1 night stay with my partner, we were very limited to access of things. We paid £189 for a superior king room with the hopes of using leisure facilities, spa treatments and also dining in the restaurant for breakfast. Although due to current situations regarding COVID-19 we were unable to do really any of these, which we understand fully. However to not be offered anything to make up for the loss of the facilities is shocking. So we paid £189 to be isolated in our room basically, which is far too over priced when you are not able to make full use of the hotels facilities.
Also, my partner had experienced a sharp screw - which was hanging out of the wall in wardrobe - to his fingers and jacket when reaching for it, which in turn has ripped his jacket, which is now going to cost roughly £200 to replace.
Furthermore, whilst in the bath the cover for the plug opener/closer kept falling off. Black deposits started falling into the bath due to this.
However, when the news of closure of cafes, bars and restaurants was released we received a letter through our door explaining all soft drinks were complimentary and breakfast would be via room service, which again, I feel breakfast shouldn’t have been charged at full price considering you don’t have full use of the buffet.
Blythswood square is a fantastic hotel and we will definitely be making a return when we have full access to facilities. However, we have just been left feeling deflated with this stay and having to purchase a new jacket due to faults in the room.
I have attached pictures of the rip in the jacket and also the screw/plug.

This is my 4th or 5th stay, Ive also used the spa when not staying(also 5star). I should have written sooner because the hotel deserves a first class review . This hotel is one of the few places I’ve stayed where I feel instantly relaxed when I walk through the doors.
Whoever designed and decorated it is worthy of a reward. It’s beautiful from reception to the rooms. The restaurant lighting has to be seen at night, beautiful. It’s luxurious but doesn’t try too hard to fit this description.
I’m from Scotland and I know the weather can be rainy sometimes but when you stay in a hotel as gorgeous as this, the weather is the best excuse you need to sit in the 1st floor cosy bar and unwind. So in these COVID times, this is the place to be. You can be inside a perfectly cleaned to covid standard hotel or go outside in our low risk country without worry.
I've now stayed in a standard, superior and deluxe room. All of these rooms are great and nicely designed, all of the beds are super comfortable. You won’t get a bad sleep in any room. The standards are a good size, the superiors have great space and bathrooms but my favourite is the deluxe. This room, out of all of the many hotel rooms I’ve stayed in, is top of my list. It’s got great space and the little design details are fantastic. The best thing about this hotel are the people that work there. Anything I’ve ever needed is not a hassle. They give 5 star service without that cringey forced American style training. They are genuine and make this hotel what it is. Thank you for being ace at what you do. I can’t wait to stay again. Best value for money hotel that I’ve ever stayed in. P.s the in room coffee is the best, forget this bitter Nespresso capsules. For a black coffee drinker, you have my heart xxx

My second ever bad review of any place I visited and I travelled both for work and leisure extensively over last 4 decades.
We arrived to find that the dining room was full and we would not be able to eat at the hotel having to find some alternative for a Saturday night in the afternoon.
We had paid a lot of money for the two rooms we booked and expected at least a courtesy heads-up early enough for the restaurant being so busy. At least then we would have had a choice. There was no effort made for us as hotel guests to accommodate in contrast to another hotel (Dakota Glasgow which we would highly recommend based on service and the public areas we visited).
We ended up ordering room service, the quality of which was excellent but it took 4 attempts to bring us all items we ordered. We experienced the same problem at breakfast. In addition, even when we order what was on the menu, there was no resemblance between the menu (berries) and the result (apart from 2 raspberries, no berries but cheaper fruit such as watermelon, pineapple).
Considering the grand entrance, we hoped at least the rooms would justify the hotel rates. We were again disappointed. The bed was horribly lumpy and felt as if the mattress was either broken or overused as it seemed to be sagging towards the floor.
The bathroom had several issues - impossible to get just cold water from the tap, duct taping around a door frame where some piece had come off (we saw how it should have been in the other room), gaps around the “window” from bedroom to bathroom meant light and noise would come through. There were shelves missing, wardrobe doors half unhinged, toilet seat banging loudly as missing its buffers underneath.
Finally, cleanliness. We had been asked whether we wanted our rooms cleaned. Considering we had booked a five star hotel and the charge, we were looking for service and requested cleaning. Unfortunately, we found that cleaning was also done haphazardly and a used tea cup was still dirty, no new bin liners were put in the bathroom. The breakfast room also had stains on the sofa seating area (from previous guests? Dinner? )
The only highlight was the concierge team. We met two and both were very accommodating and helpful.

Thought we would get away for a night and booked this hotel as one of the few 5 stars in city. Doorman was very nice and first impressions were good.
Hotel has a few restrictions in place for Covid which makes sense and they appear to be taking every precaution. Allocated a room in the 5th floor..the top floor..and encouraged to use the stairs rather than the lift. By the time I got to the top it was the last time I used them!! 😊
The room was nice but the mini bar fridge wasn't working properly and the mattress was far too soft making you roll into each other in the middle.
The room was really warm with solar heat gain and the AC did the trick but throughout the night there was so much noise coming from the roof or the AC ductwork that it made it impossible to sleep if you are a light sleeper.
Dinner and breakfast was ok but for a 5 star, I expected better.
On check out I mentioned to the staff about the AC and noise issues. She became defensive stating that there was no other potential units on the roof that would cause any noise! More or less saying I was imagining it despite there being a whole section of aluminium ductwork above the room which you could see from the corridor window across from the room when walking to the elevator.
She also suggested that I should have called reception and they would have moved me rooms...in the middle of a 1 night stay!!!?
I couldn't believe what she was saying to me and clearly seen I was not happy at her reply having had less than 3 hours
Overall, the hotel is very nicely decorated and is well located in the town for access to shops and restaurants but I would suggest that value for money the Hilton 5 star is better.
Maybe this was a bad experience for us but my best tip is not to get a room on the 5th floor and try the local restaurants.

On arrival to our room there was a welcome note left on the table for the guest who was previously in our room. Contacted reception was told the note had been placed in the wrong room and was for members only, I told them I was a member and was just dismissed.
There was no mini bar in the room yet the couple across the hall had a fully stocked mini bar. Called reception to ask why ours was empty told they don’t stock it because of Covid yet mini bars in the other rooms were stocked.
Room was very tired and fixtures and fittings were broken, sliding door that separates the bathroom from bedroom being one.
The spa was disgraceful. Dirty pool, some features of the pool didn’t work. Live wires at the side of the pool uncovered. Rust in places, spa facilities over crowded even with Covid restrictions in place.
Have stayed at this hotel many times but it has went downhill and majority of staff aren’t helpful and very dismissive which is a joke considering you pay at least £200 per night.
The only good thing about our stay was the concierge staff who were very helpful in regards to valet parking and luggage.

A beautiful building in a lovely area within walking distance of the city centre. Valet parking worked well (£30 per day). The concierges were very welcoming & helpful. The public areas are tastefully decorated & furnished. The bar food & drinks were very good quality. Breakfast was excellent, as was the service. Lovely touch to have complimentary wine from 5-6pm. Room grades/facilities are difficult to fathom from the hotel’s poor website (hotel reservations staff struggled to explain!). Many bedrooms look into an internal ‘courtyard’ - it’s really a light shaft & not attractive. If we return we’d pay the supplement to have a view over the square & garden. The bedrooms we had were a mix of deluxe, premium & essential - all are decorated in a modern, grey corporate style, but very clean & marble bathrooms. If booking I suggest you contact the hotel directly, not the IHG call centre & be very sure of your room’s facilities. Spa is pleasant but the pool is so hot it’s more a thermal therapy; not a pool for swimming lengths. Spa treatments were excellent.

Room Tip: Check your room grade when booking. Choose a room facing the garden. Very dog friendly. Great...

Booked to stay at this beautiful hotel for mine and my boyfriends first night away post lockdown and it was amazing. I've been desperate to stay at this hotel for years and it fully met my expectations and more!
Our room was ready early and on time for arrival, check in staff were incredibly informative and helpful and the amenities in the room were excellent - my favourites was obviously the massive bathtub, extremely comfy bed and Turnocks Tea Cakes to have with a cuppa tea :)
Hotel is obviously running slightly different than normal with everything going on but the service was still great. We were able to have alcoholic drinks sent to our room and we were able to go straight down to the spa with our robes and swimsuits on from our room. We used the spa facilities in the morning and we booked a massage as well. Even though majority of the thermal rooms are closed under government guidelines currently it was still an incredibly relaxing experience and our massages were amazing too.
Hotel is well located within Glasgow City Centre and a multi story car park is nearby for overnight parking, we got a discount for the parking through the hotel which reduced the price too.
Overall we had a fantastic stay and would definitely come back :)

The bar is open to the public as is the restaurant
I am not sure but the concierge at the hotel would be able to advise you. He recommended an Italian restaurant to us just round the corner and it was fantastic. I can't remember the name but I think it was on Bath street.
Hi I have emailed them at the email address on their website but they didn’t reply which is to be expected seeing their customer service is appalling. So sorry can’t help and don’t stay there is my advice
Regards Kim
