Simply can’t fault this fine establishment. Accommodation , ambience and quality of food were all stunning. We had dinner twice at the bistro - try the venison: melt in the mouth and packed a punch in flavour. My husband’s had Eggs Benedict over the world and rated du Vin’s #1! Our room was tastefully decorated and spacious. The shower was powerful and invariably hot as you please. The room was immaculate and bed sumptuous. The biggest asset at du Vin, St Andrew’s is the staff : uniformly welcoming, gracious and GENUINELY interested in their guests as people. Particular mention to Jerry who waited in the Bistro- her interpersonal skills are off the scale, managing to achieve the balance of being attentive to our needs without being overly fussy. At breakfast Joanne was charismatic and extremely helpful. Sometimes a staycation experience is regarded as the poor cousin of an overseas holiday. This can certainly not be said of a trip based at the du Vin St Andrew’s. Give it a try: you won’t regret it.…
Tried unsuccessfully many times to get a table here, I assumed it was golfers cluttering up the place (Its on The Scores). Finally spoke to someone who got me a table for our Anniversary who said that the web site is always blocking them. We were met by a charming young man called TOM, who sorted out confusion over the menu (again, ignore what the web site says!). We settled for the Chatteaubriand, the only was to get some fillet steak at this hotel;. It was beautifully cooked, but served with the worst dried up fries we ever had anywhere. We chose a Pino Noir from OMERO, a vineyard in Oregon on the west coast of the USA - absolutely delicious! So silky smooth and tasty too - could have drank 3 bottles each (we didn't!). Great Service from Maitre D Tom (he is Polish) and his girls. Persevere and your prayers will be rewarded with the window table at the du Vin, possibly Fife's best restaurant!…
Just back from a 3 night stay in the hotel du vin in St Andrews. We normally stay in the bigger hotels in St Andrews We booked a deluxe room. Room was lovely, huge comfy bed, lovely big bathroom. Nespresso machine. Breakfast was lovely . Dinner was especially good, as were the vodka martinis . The biggest praise goes to the staff. So friendly and welcoming, professional and efficient, while at ease with guests. We will definitely book here again.
Despite previous experience of this hotel chain being pretentious and overpriced, I thought I would give it another chance…..bad move. Attempts to book & guarantee a ‘Classic’ (standard) room with king sized bed (available as per website) were thwarted by Hotel du Vin central booking system bureaucracy so I upgraded to a Deluxe room @ > £300/night B&B, obviously expecting something a little bit special for this price. On arrival by car, two aspects were immediately obvious; the location was superb and the challenges faced in parking a car were not insignificant. The Deluxe room proved to be a major disappointment, very dark with few useful lights, a view to a car park at the rear and the absence of a bath, even though the space in the bathroom clearly allowed for one. Upon enquiring, it appears that the only ‘addition’ in a Deluxe room (apart from a few extra square feet floor area) is an A/C unit which, because of typical East Coast Haar (Sea Fog), was never used. Sleep on both nights was interrupted by a combination of noise from the car park and doors slamming in the hotel. Breakfast in the morning was a pretty poor effort, both quality & quantity (single cup of coffee, single egg etc.). St. Andrews is a wonderful place to visit but there are far better places to stay than the Hotel du Vin.…
