Just back from having afternoon tea. We will not be going back again . The food itself was ok , but the service was shocking. The principle of high tea, I belive is you are served tea and toast whilst you pick your meal. Our drinks order was taken promptly, but the tea and toast never arrived, until another waitress mention that we were still waiting . The toast had barely seen a toaster !! . We had eaten a quarter of a slice when our main meal arrived, everything seemed rushed then!!. Steak pie was tasty but pastry was cold and slightly frozen I part. we were never offer another pot of hot tea to go with cakes. The staff were not very friendly. Disappointing visit .
We had a meal with 10 people at Gilvenbank. The service was really good and the staff were efficient and very friendly. The food was first class and the portions were ample. I really want to highlight the menu was excellent - a good selection. The staff were excellent. I would go back
We had the opportunity to meet up with friends and stay at the hotel this weekend. This is our 2nd or 3rd stay at the hotel and it didn't disappoint. All the staff were very efficient and friendly. We all had dinner in the function room as the bar is getting a refurbishment, looking forward to visiting again once its finished. The desperate Dan breakfast is a mission in itself.
It’s my first time with my son and wife’s family in Scotland , we went for a Christmas meal witch cost so much money we were paying £60 each. The soup was good and delicious, but I ordered turkey it was so bad and it was just 150 grams. It was with that for potatoes and little bit of vegetables with two sausages with bacon I wasn’t eating, The meal was so bad. After we had Some cheesecake, chocolate cake and ice cream and some fruit salad and tea or coffee. When we were going home they said for us to pay for drinks which we were thinking that is all including with the meal …! The staff were friendly and the place was fine. Just the meal was so bad I will never come back to this place.
We had a lovely meal at Gilvenbank today and the staff were very friendly. We were celebrating my mums 80th, with a group of 16, and she always loves The Gilvenbank and so it proved a great place to celebrate. Service was tremendous and good choice of meals. I had Fish and Chips which was excellent. Well recommended.
Took daughter for a meal for her birthday without the kids. Meal was fine and we were asked if we wanted to see dessert menu which we said yes. However after about 20 minutes we got up and i paid for meals and drink. Was asked how everything was to which said yes except the waitress never came back with dessert menu for us and she just smiled. Daughter didnt think it was anything to laugh about and wont come back. They werent that busy
We called ahead to book only 15 min before arrival. The staff were so helpful and friendly, the food was lovely, the fish is not for the fainthearted as it was massive!. We will definitely be back. Thank you for a very enjoyable time x
Very disappointed. I have eaten here many times pre covid. I have to say the change to the menu is disappointing, more cheap grub than the lovely options you used to have. Small portions for the price. Wine served in a half pint Stella glass. This was our first couple night since covid so a nice glass of wine in a proper glass , with good atmosphere, service etc was expected and it just didn’t deliver. Tables weren’t wiped between parties , you have extended the amount of people you can accommodate with the marque but not the staff or glasses, staff weren’t following one way system etc. No bar menu available to see what drinks are on offer or the prices . We had booked to come to celebrate my sons 18th, I’ve booked somewhere else now
The staff are very nice here especially the man waiter who is really friendly and kindly took a family photo for us and made my dad’s birthday a great event. This made our experience better and more personal. PS the photography skills were top tier so I’d recommend getting family pictures here too! Would definitely return
We were out celebrating my friends birthday we only stayed for drinks but were still given excellent service from Darius honestly couldn't have e done even for us even had the umbrella's put up for us when it was raining look forward to our next visit
