Travelodge Edinburgh Central Rose Street offers a prime location that guests often applaud, nestled close to attractions and transport links, despite some noise disturbances from the vibrant city life. The rooms elicit mixed reactions, with commendations for comfort and cleanliness, yet some guests note maintenance and temperature control issues. Service quality at the hotel varies, with reports of both friendly staff and less attentive service. While the hotel atmosphere and cleanliness generally earn praise, the additional costs for amenities like Wi-Fi are a drawback for those seeking greater value.

This Travelodge was in a perfect location for a day/night out in Edinburgh and was very cheap for a Sunday night. It’s in need of a refurbishment as it looks quite dirty because it’s an older one. However the one thing that stood out was the attitude of the woman working on reception. I had phoned the day before to try and sort an early check-in as it wasn’t going through on the website. The woman I spoke to said she would put my name down for the first room that was cleaned and when we arrived we were met with a very rude attitude. I was told “Check in is at 3pm” and when I explained that I had spoken to someone before I was met with “Well he shouldn’t be guaranteeing early check ins” then I explained it was a woman I spoke to and it turned out the be the person on reception. She then said “Well do you have any idea how many people I spoke to yesterday” as if it was my fault she didn’t remember what she had said she’d do for us. It was just a horrible attitude and the way we were spoken to was totally uncalled for and if it was someone visiting Edinburgh for the first time I would be appalled that was what was representing the people of Edinburgh and Scotland. I wouldn’t be going back in a hurry.

The staff were good and friendly when you met them. Mostly they need to be contacted by a freephone number, which has replaced a bell on the counter (if I remember). I prefered the bell, although they did arrive quickly when called.
Room was clean and tidy. We had a quiet room as requested on the first floor. The lift is good, you have to be careful which button you press as there are 2 other buttons there for the fire screen.
A good kettle with tea, coffee and milk. Hairdryer at reception when requested.
We paid in advance but the £29 rooms don't exist as we booked and paid when advertised and it cost over £33! We also paid for the internet at £3 a day. The wifi was okay but only 30 mins a day is free.

Basic but spacious room, no significant difference from other standard Travelodges. The room was warm even though was in the midst of winter.

Great location, on a pedestrian-only street and a 30 second walk to Prince's Street. There was no bar/restaurant in the Travelodge but no big deal as there was plenty of great bars, pubs and restaurants all well within walking distance.

Parking at the QPark OMNi was simple, plenty of spaces and only £8 per 24 hours as stated on the Travelodge website which is great for city centre parking. We were staying for two nights so effectively got 48 hours parking for £16. You receive a ticket on entry and pay for however long you have stayed at the end. It wasn't clear as to whether we had to leave the car park and re-enter to get a second ticket or whether the parking discount could be stacked, although I now believe it is possible to stack discount tickets so no need to exit and re-enter. We did this to be on the safe side and not to get charged the full price.

I had the misfortune to stay at this travelodge twice within a week. Both rooms I was given had no soft lighting above the bed and indeed no tubes in the lighting strip. There were no alternative rooms available nor any bulbs to replace missing strip lights. I would have expected that whoever was responsible for maintenance from a safety point of view alone would have changed the light stripos. As a consequence I had to endure very bright and uncomfortable lighting in the room. Very poor .

This was not a great room, it was huge but empty of furniture apart from the bed and the small desk. The ceiling was only half painted and the toilet had horrible yellow stains around the base. For the money it was ok as we were only there one night but would look at a better hotel next time. The carpark was a 20 minute walk away which was a struggle with luggage and the next day they couldn’t store our luggage whilst we visited the Castle. They did say we could pay for late check out for £10 but we decided to take our stuff back instead. The good points were it’s central location and you can get 24 hours parking for £10 as long as you get a validated by reception.

I'm generally a huge fan of Travelodge and what they offer and regularly use them for both business and leisure purposes; however I am sad to say I have never come across anything like this branch.
I arrived for a weekend in Edinburgh and having paid for early check in was hoping to leave my bags and go and explore. However when I entered the room the smell of damp and mould was overwhelming, and every part of the room was falling apart at the seams. I didn't complain at this point, but when the decrepit kettle in the room didnt even work, I went downstairs and politely asked the guy at reception if I could swap rooms. I was told this wouldn't be possible and after I explained the situation he tried to blame housekeeping for not doing their job correctly; however this was simply not the cause of the issue. The reason for the damp and the mould between the windowsills was due to the fact that the windows could not be opened and aspects such as the broken and cracked kettle, bed, shower curtain and light were not a cleanliness issue but more a general upkeep issue relating to the hotel itself. Alas, after going back to the room I decided to book and leave to another hotel (the smell was overwhelming) - when I went to check out and asked if I would receive any money back, the same receptionist told me again it was a 'housekeeping issue' and that I would 'potentially receive a few vouchers for another stay but it would not be to the amount paid'. I politely said my thanks and walked down the street laughing - at least it proved a funny tale! Absolutely, 100% hilariously dreadful - and I paid a fair amount for the privilege! I would avoid at all costs.
P.S. I still haven't received any vouchers!

We booked for 3 nights. Paid for “breakfast to go”, and paid for early “check in”. My girlfriend had a conference to attend by 12 noon on the day we were arriving, hence the payment for early check in. Upon driving 8 hours to reach Edinburgh much to our dismay it was told that the earliest check in they allow is 12noon. On explaining the situation and almost begging to let us use the toilet at least to freshen up they still declined. Had to use the toilet of a hotel across the travel lodge, where they had no problem letting us use to the toilet even though we were not staying there or spending any money there.

Apart from this check-in fiasco, the “breakfast box” offered was minimal and would not fill you up at all. Infact I became hypoglycaemic after a couple of hours after that so called breakfast which we had paid 33 pounds for the 3 mornings.
The room carpet looked so very old and dusty and unclean. The toilets flush was not properly working. The shower barely had any water flow. The toilet was not even restocked with hand wash or body wash.

The total cost of staying there was 390 pounds for the 3 nights. We could have stayed at any place with much better services and cleaner rooms in that cost.

The lift was out of action
There was no sink plug - very difficult to shave, informed reception but still no sink plug on second day.
The discounted car park is a very long way away, we were on a week's holiday and had heavy suitcases so walking all that way then having to carry them up the stairs was not welcome.
There was not a lot of clothes hanging space which is surprising considering the room size.
We had travelled over from the Dumbarton Travelodge and the comparing the two one would think this was a different company
The hotel is conveniently situated for most things in Edinburgh surrounded by bars and eating places

I love staying here it's so close to just about everything to do and see in Edinburgh.
The staff are always friendly and helpful and the rooms may be basic but are perfect for just sleeping and resting , with coffee and tea facilities too.

The new door hanger is very nice too, having a sign that says you need topped up with coffee, tea and to get clean towels is great.

This hotel was perfect location, spacious clean rooms (201&202) which looked out the back so very quiet. Anna the receptionist was lovely, explained all the guidelines so we felt very safe & comfortable. She also took my phone call prior to us arriving & remembered me, I booked a 2nd night separately for us to leave our luggage & all our shopping bags all day as we didn't catch our bus till 7pm which made our trip super chilled & was able to pop our bags into the room once we reached Primark then carried on along Princess St empty handed 😁 £24 well spent!!! We were also able to freshen up before our meal at night. The gentleman (didn't catch his name) was very chatty & lovely also. Loved our stay & defo will be booking again Thank u
