A country home away from home! Established in 1642, Denvir's Hotel is steeped in history and is the perfect setting for a relaxing break. Offering old world charm in the heart of Downpatrick, Denvir's has a long tradition of sheltering travellers and will endeavour to ensure that your stay will be a memorable one. Now part of the award winning Botanic Inns group, Denvir’s is the oldest surviving coaching inn in Ireland and is now a grade ‘A’ listed building. The building itself has been extensively and sympathetically renovated while retaining its original character. With six attractive and beautifully restored bedrooms, a restaurant, lounge and snug bars as well as two function rooms for hire; there are many reasons to visit Denvir’s. All of Downpatrick's best historical attractions are located on the same road as Denvirs. St Patricks Grave, The Catherdral and the Gaol are all located on English Street. So we're in the heart of the action! We look forward to welcoming you to Denvir's Hotel.
Denvirs is full of character but we were very disappointed on arrival to find we were not staying in the inn itself but in a separate building 100 yards away. The room itself was large comfortable and clean but the windows on both sides looked into brick walls. There was very little daylight to be seen and as a result we felt very isolated. Great for someone who wanted silence. Being in separate building meant we had to don coats hats etc to go out for dinner and breakfast. Food was very good on the whole. Chef happy to alter set options if required. Service very very slow both at breakfast and for dinner. Sour dough toast much too hard to eat

Hi Dolina, Thanks for the review. On the rooms, we do have our rooms listed as in Denvir's Main Building, and Denvir's Mews. The Mews as you say are 70 metres away, but they are very well appointed and quiet as they aren't in the main building. On the slowness of the food, we cook everything from fresh, including the breakfast, so depending on orders, speed at times can be compromised, but as you say, we aim to make sure that it is very good.

Limited menu… inexperienced staff.. ate in this establishment tonight and have to say it was disappointing… not a great menu! I had peppered chicken, it was basic and not hugely appetising, service was poor, restaurant was empty, atmosphere was drab and dull, bar was half empty! Sloppy service , waiter put our order through, kitchen didn’t deliver!

My husband and I are just back from a very relaxing two night stay. Great accommodation, excellent food and very hospitable staff. Great value for the money. This was our second time staying and it won’t be the last! only complaint is that I didn’t make it three nights!

Thank you for the very kind review. We're delighted you enjoyed your stay with us and we look forward to seeing you again soon. The guys at the Racecourse have done a great job over the last few years in developing their facilities, so it is a great day out. The next meetings are in May, both on Friday evenings, so maybe we'll see you then.

First time here, wont be the last. Spotless throughout Super room. Extremely comfortable bed. Stayed in number 2. One thing you could fix is the radiator. Cant switch off. Not a problem but might be for you if you have a leak. Excellent breakfast, best in a long time. Push the boat out and go bottles of hp and proper ketchup. Not prison sachets. All staff excellent. One mention to the lady with the tattoos behind the bar. She is outstanding especially when interacting with her younger team. Best I've seen in a long time. General manager potential. Good luck. Fantastic service in this lovely modern yet traditional hotel! The food was delicious, the portion size was plentiful and we were made to feel incredibly welcome! The lovely lady who served us could not have been more helpful! Would definitely recommend!

My husband, son and I booked online at Denvir’s Inn for one night. Our initial room was not in the Inn itself but in a newly refurbished apartment block about 200 yards walk away. The room was lovely, modern and very spacious but unfortunately we had no heating and it was very very cold. As there is no phone in the room we had to walk around to the Inn several times to try and resolve. Unfortunately after waiting until 6pm (for the member of staff who knew how the heating worked to start her shift), it was confirmed that the heating couldn’t be fixed and we were moved. This was a shame as the original room was a lovely space. The second room was spacious, warm and cosy but as expected, much older and a different style. The Wi-Fi connectivity was fairly low. The food was beautiful (we ordered from the Christmas and Kids menu) and the staff were all very friendly. Being in an Inn on a Saturday it was very noisy out in the street below til the small hours so not much sleep to be had but to be honest it is an Inn it’s to be expected! I would imagine the refurbished block would have been much quieter as our room was off the road. Despite the issues with the heating in our original room and the noise in the new one, I would definitely give Denvir’s Inn a go again. I would likely request the new block if I knew the heating issue was resolved and I know we would have had a very different experience. I gathered from the conversations with staff that this wasn’t the first time they couldn’t get the heating working though.…

Cara, Thank you for the review, and again, apologies about the heating. Of no benefit to you now, but we figured out the problem after you left. The heating is controlled from a panel in the office which we manage. On the panel the indication was that the heating was on. It was also on at the plug in your room. What we have since discovered is that a previous guest, we assume, had opened the radiator in your room, which is powered by electric as you know, and found a switch which enables the device to be turned off. Previously we hadn't know of such a switch, but we do now. You also mentioned us having this problem before. The last time was simply that a guest had turned the thermostat to zero and our staff hadn't thought to check this. So two totally unrelated problems, but you learn as you go. As you've stated, the rooms are relatively new. Hopefully you will visit again. We would love to see you. Take care for now, Stephen

This hotel I came across on a really dreadful night in November. From the moment I walked in to be greeted by excellent friendly staff it was a warm and cosy experience. The bar is a lovely little local bar with friendly locals but the best part about this hotel is the 5 star food. The portions are ample and the quality is excellent.

This is a very old building but it is well kept. The room was clean and the bathroom looked new with a wonderful shower. We were staying on a Saturday night and there was entertainment in the bar. As we had an early start next day we retired early but got little sleep as the music downstairs was loud The walls between rooms are not very soundproof and someone in the next room came in at 2am and put the TV on which we could hear clearly. On the plus side staff were really friendly and welcoming. Maybe we were just unlucky to need an early night on a Saturday

A group of six of us stayed while visiting the area for a wedding and could not have been more pleased with our stay. Absolutely beautiful building (one of the oldest in the area) with loads of character, really well maintained, and incredibly clean and comfortable. We had breakfast both mornings of our stay which was delicious, with great service- really friendly and professional. The rest of the wedding party stayed at the La Mon and had an absolutely terrible time, so Denvir's get an extra point for providing us all with a very smug weekend! Thanks so much for having us all.
