For a group of friends out at an event all weekend this was better than I had expected. Yes it’s basic but there were no surprises on that front. Main advantage is that it’s within a mile of the city centre - even closer to St James’. Yes it’s up-hill on the way back, but it’s close. Don’t forget your own towels and toiletries etc. Drink making stuff in a communal area. The beds are really comfy! Even being bunk beds they’re sturdy so if you’re on the bottom bunk you’re not bothered at all by the person above. Despite being opposite a fire station it is quiet! Our room was the first one into the building but again, weren’t disturbed at all by others coming and going. Only draw-backs we’re that the WiFi is poor in Room 2, but that may have been my device, worked well in the common area though. Also, the pivot hinge on the shower door failed but the staff said they had had a similar issue in another room so would get it fixed and we weren’t charged as it was a fault. Staff are really helpful and polite, and if we do the group trip to Newcastle again, we’d be happy to return.

Room Tip: Get the door code if you’re going to be back late. Don’t forget a towel. Don’t rely on the WiFi

Travelled down from Edinburgh for the weekend. Had a booking confirmation number and confirmation email- which we received on 12th August. Had not heard anything from the company after that so presumed everything was in order for our stay on 28th August. I called a couple of days beforehand to check something. Called 5 times, did not get through, left a message but no one called back. When we arrived, a polite receptionist informed us that there was no booking under our name. I showed them the confirmation email. To which he said that it had been an error that it was sent and we did not have a room and they had none left to offer us. He did not offer to help us find another room or offer any alternative. I had to tell him to get his manager to phone me. When his manager phoned me he tried to explain it away as an error and that we had received an email to say our booking was no longer placed due to a change in system/management. We did not receive an email. I asked how they could aid us in our situation to which he said all he could do is ask for our forgiveness. Ultimately we had to book a last minute room in another hotel which ended up being triple the price of the room we booked with this useless lot. I appreciate this has been a difficult time for everyone but felt let down and not helped one bit. Had heard such good things but was utterly disappointed and will be reporting.

Staff was friendly and place looks new and clean. We stayed there as group and the hospitality was fantastic. Highly recommended beds were very comfortable and staff also offered us welcome tea or coffee.

Staff were all brilliant, welcoming on arrival and even offered to phone us a taxi when we were going out. Room was also very good for the price we paid. Had everything we needed for basic use in the room.

Needed a place to crash after a night out in Newcastle. Booked through Air bnb and was pleased they had 24 hour reception so we didn’t have to fuss on going there before going out. For £40 we got a quadruple room for the evening. First time in a backpacker hostel so didn’t know what we were expecting. It was tip top the room was huge clean and well maintained. Can understand why they are so highly rated and would go back.
