The hotel is in a great location, right opposite the cathedral and waking up to that fabulous view from the bedroom window was very special. It really is a mediaeval gatehouse, so passageways and stairs are what you would expect - very narrow and confined, so accessing the top

We booked at the last minute and stayed at The Ancient Gatehouse overnight. We found the hotel rather delightful. Lovely, quiet room at the top of the house, very warm too which was great coming in from a blustery day out, lovely large comfy bed and the views were simply

My wife booked us a room here for my birthday weekend and it was a pleasant surprise. We were given a room on the second floor which looked over the green and straight at the beautiful Wells Cathedral. The room was at the end of a crooked little corridor and had a kind of Hobbit

This was a last minute romantic weekend booking. I got the last room so wasn't expecting much. What a surprise, we navigated to our room through higgledy pickledy corridors and eventually came to a very old narrow and uneven spiral staircase that lead to two rooms no's 8 & 9.

You have also asked about breakfast , there was plenty of room in the restaurant for breakfast . I live in Holland where dogs are always by a chair or under a table or on a cushion at the table. It always depends on the owner 😁😁😁. Whether their dog is sociable . You clearly are a responsible dog owner by getting clearance in advance . Telephone in the morning the staff are very helpful.

Not sure if this question is addressed to me....but Trip Advisor alerted me to answer.....I am sure the parking will still apply as the hotel is within the city walls and on double yellow lines..only accessible to residents and buses...there is a layby about 20 yards before the hotel door which is a good drop-off place, but you will have to find your way to the long-term car park...the hotel gives out maps!!!

Hello, Yes there is access to Wells by coach or bus. From London you can take a coach direct to Wells bus station. You could take a coach or train to Bristol and then take the bus direct to Wells. Coaches leave wells very early in the morning. Mainly to London
