The Ayrlington hotel garners appreciation for its commendable service and inviting atmosphere, with many guests enjoying the friendly staff and the boutique vibe of the well-maintained premises. While the locale is a highlight, offering convenient access to Bath's attractions, some guests have raised concerns about costly parking. Opinions are mixed regarding the hotel's value; the room rates are seen as steep, particularly given the parking fees and mixed reviews of the breakfast. Room cleanliness receives praise, yet some travelers note issues with maintenance and dated decor.

Due to Covid lockdown we were able at last to book a two night stay of which David the manager recommended the Pulteney Room to stay in. Hotel is in excellent location as it is a 10 minute flat walk to the centre of Bath and is both safe to do so, day or night and with having its own car park, your car is parked in the hotel grounds at the front of the hotel which is a great bonus and convenient knowing you have no parking charges. Our room having been picked by David was large and looked over the hotel garden at the rear of the Hotel and was very nice, so I would suggest to anyone visiting, ask the staff which room is best for your needs as some quests on previous reviews have not been totally happy. Our room was great and was a pleasure to stay in with Johnny on reception being most helpful and cheerful and the breakfast staff very efficient in providing a very good breakfast. Would certainly stay here again, and I get the feeling if things were not quite right for your needs the staff will do their utmost to get things sorted once you have brought it to their attention. Hotel is bed and breakfast, but there is plenty of eateries in the city to choose from, you only have to ask! Thank you to all, we enjoyed our stay.

My wife and I first stayed at this hotel 25 years ago so being an old romantic I booked it again for Valentine’s Day. We had the grand suite which was fantastic. The room is spacious, it has three TV’s including one in the bathroom, a coffee machine, a fridge and your own patio area. Breakfast is included and there is a great selection from a full English to yoghurt and fruit. The staff there were also very friendly and helpful which added to the relaxed atmosphere. Parking there would appear to be fairly tight so if you don’t need to drive to Bath then it may be you will save yourself a headache. The walk from the hotel into town is 10 minutes whichever way you go and the Bath rugby ground is next door and can be seen from the hotel. Great place to stay. 👍👍

We got moved to the Ayrlington after our original hotel was closed. Lovely hotel with very clean rooms. Hand sanitizer available at the entrance and good signage up about wearing face masks. The room was a good size with a large bathroom. Good views out over the garden and park. Breakfast was served at intervals throughout the morning. Good options available and served by friendly staff. All staff wearing masks and gloves. Only a short walk into town centre. Would definitely stay there again.

This is not five stars in my opinion. understand they have other rooms Which may be acceptable but our room was tired, and the decor was terrible. The colour scheme was strange to say the least and not at all attractive in my view.
The bathroom was fine.
The furniture was shabby and worn. Mirror moved on its own and a ceiling chandelier swung on its own accord. To say the room is creepy is an understatement.
I’ve never frequented a brothel but I imagine their rooms may well look like the Abbey room ,
Not at all to my taste. Not comfortable and not tasteful.
I judge five starts to be the Ritz in London etc. This is not five stars in my opinion.
How anyone could like his room and feel relaxed and comfortable they have strange tastes !
Breakfast was not up to scratch. No cereal offered, one slice of toast offered, per person, no marmalade or jam offered. Yes we perhaps could have requested more toast, beans with our full English (missing from my plate) another pot of tea. But five stars it should be offered automatically and we should not have to ask subsequently.
The staff were fine but the hotel room we were given was poor and unattractive in our view. Not worth £160 a nigjt.
Plus parking was cramped. All in all not a good night.

Single glazed ill fitting windows banging all night resulted in 2x very poor nights sleep. Rot in the bathroom by the towel rail. Dirty carpet. No refresh of drinking water. Raised issues with Staff (big local gentleman with floppy hair), could not have cared less. Threw card reader at me. Asked if we could have a room with a bath and was told it would cost another £400 per night.

I was due to stay at this hotel on Monday 2nd march to celebrate my 25th wedding anniversary, unfortunately 48 hours before I contracted C-Diff from the hospital where I worked. I rang the hotel first thing Sunday morning to inform them and asked would it be possible for me to move the date on just a few days until it had passed as I had been advise not to go into public places. Unfortunately they weren't very accommodating and at one point I was even encourage to attend my booking even though they knew I had a contagious illness that can easily spread to other people. Sunday night the money was taken out of my bank account even tho I wasn't due to stay until Monday. I feel this hotel just take people's hard earned cash without a second thought and put's money before customer satisfaction. I wasn't asking to cancel just to move the date on until I was well enough to attend! I even offer to take a lesser room than the one I had booked and let them choose the day but it was still a NO!!!
So please beware before adding your bank card details as you may end up paying a lot of money for something that you not going to get.

We stayed at the Ayrlington in the Orchid room which is situated below road/car park level so is a little on the gloomy side & in need of some touch up paint but as we didn't too spend much time in the room during our 2 night stay over Easter it wasn't a major issue. The bed was very comfortable, the shower was hot & powerful enough & the room has a safety deposit box & a large flatscreen TV. The a la carte breakfast overlooking the hotel's garden was delightful with several hot choices as well as fruit, cereals etc & was served over 3 sittings. The bar was a nice place to relax & drinks were reasonably priced for a city hotel. It costs £10 to park in the car park per night. Staff throughout our stay were extremely friendly & helpful. For us this hotel was perfectly positioned, being able bodied over sixties, the hotel is close enough for the sights in Bath city centre (around a 10 min walk to the Roman Baths, the Abbey or Pulteney Bridge/weir) but just far enough to be away from any noise.

The Ayrlington

A beautiful old style boutique hotel. Located just across the river from the city centre, a very easy 10-15 minute walk.

We were in the "Poppy" room, which was located on the top floor (3rd floor) 41 steps. The room was lovely and clean. The bed was comfortable, but my only criticism is that the bed is way too low. The room had tea and coffee making facilities. The bathroom was lovely and modern and had a really good shower, nice and hot with really good pressures.

Breakfast was downstairs in the dining room and offered a selection of cereals, fruit, yoghurt, juices, and a choice of a hot breakfast. The breakfast was really good.

The staff here were all very friendly and helpful. There was parking available on the premises. Although they did not have laundry facilities they were able to organise for a company to come and pick it up for a same day washing service which cost 21 pounds for a really large bag.

We really enjoyed our stay here and would definitely recommend it. We would, without a doubt, stay here again.

This hotel’s location is great – the Holburne Museum is just up the road and it’s a 10 minute walk into the centre of Bath. The outlook over the gardens up to Bath Abbey is splendid and the breakfast choice is excellent. That said, the Ayrlington is certainly not worthy of 5 star status as it is really quite shabby. I had the Iris room which, because it looked over the gardens, was at least quiet though very hot despite neither of the two radiators being on. Only one of the two sash windows would open, however.

I was extremely glad I was staying on my own and only for one night as the wardrobe was effectively a broom cupboard with just four of those non-removable hangars positioned one behind the other, which is just about the most inconvenient configuration you can give a guest. Absolutely not sufficient for a couple staying a few nights.

My room felt somewhat uncared for – there were only 3 bulbs working out of the 6 bulbs in the overhead light and there was rotten woodwork in the bathroom, doubtless due to water flooding from the shower.

I know that Bath prices are high, but I feel that the £120 double room price (with no concession for single occupancy) was really over the top. I wouldn’t feel able to recommend the Ayrlington to a friend.

We had booked two nights , twin room recently- one of the nights was booked over a year ago ( should have gone on a cruise which was cancelled)
We arrived late morning - good as the car park gets packed and we were able to find a space , and not be blocked in . As the room wasn’t ready we could have left our cases in the dining room, but rather that they were kept in our car. We were told that due to social distancing that slots were given for breakfast which wasn’t an issue for use. Breakfast both days were good, with a selection to chose from.
On returning to the hotel later that afternoon we were shown our room on the top floor (carnation) which to our surprise was very, very compact . It was not what we expected , with flaking windows , old furniture and marked walls. I am assuming that as the hotel is having a programmed refit that this room is certainly in need to be on top of their list.
The bathroom was not an issue and had been updated
On our second day on returning from Bath we found our beds unmade, bins not emptied, cups still dirty, towels not changed. On going to reception I was told that due to covid restrictions they do not enter rooms to refresh !!
I am surprised that this is a 5star category
The plus side is the hotel locations means it’s only a 10 min walk to the city centre.
The cost per night was not reflected in our experience

Good evening, Different websites have different names for the room categories but upon checking our system I can surmise that this is probably what we would call our 'Premier King' rooms. You can see photos of these on the websites 'rooms' tab. Hope that helps. Best wishes, Lewes Reception Team

Answer from Ayrlington

Good morning, Sotto Sotto is an excellent choice and comes highly recommended by myself. Please book this restaurant as early as you can because it is extremely popular. The Roman baths is a must, one of the best preserved Roman remains in the world! Be sure to pick up an audio guide and listen to fascinating commentary as you take a step back in time. Relax in the stunning open-air rooftop pool by day… or by night…in the natural thermal waters of the Minerva Bath Spa, Britain's only naturally warm, mineral-rich waters. I hope this helps give you a couple of ideas. Please contact the Ayrlington directly and speak to myself or our reception team for anything we can do to enhance your stay in our beautiful Grand Suite. Kind regards David Ayrlington Manager.
