Visited on Wednesday 18th May , I picked a real ale which looked to my taste , when I took a drink it was full of line cleaner , I complained to the barman who reluctantly changed it but didn't offer any form of apology , my 4 other friends ordered drinks and when coming to pay realised my replace drink had been added to there bill, when it was questioned a manager had to get involved ,would not recommend , if you want the guy fawkes connection take a photo from outside
We paid £350 each per couple for 2 4-poster bedrooms, breakfast and dinner. We did not expect to pay or be asked to pay anymore than that for 1 night, however, we were told max £35pp pmeal. Anything more than 1 option for breakfast it was a £10 extra, so you could not have a plate of fruit followed by an English breakfast, it was one or the other. They got 2 down for the meal when I booked via email for 4 guests' they had to change seating around on a Friday night very quickly! very embarrassing! Was charged in the morning for bar food and drink we did not have. The shower was intermittent - kept going boiling hot when you did not touch it. Carpets to rooms were filthy. Hairdryer - we had to go underneath the dressing table to plug in - no extension lead for guest, I pulled a muscle in the process! Meals do not come with vegetables, that is a side order and an extra cost - we did not know that or asked from the waitress that before and when we booked our meal. A pudding of Lemon Merangue Sundae - shocking horrible taste with bought merangues, gone off lemon curd, I informed waitress only to be a face looking down at me saying No, no, no and with her aloofness, I requested the chef straigt away - sure enough, he said it was bought merangues and the lemon curd was frozen, thus, I said probably the old taste due to too long in the freezer (months) His face said it all. A double bed and one of our guests fell out onto a wooden floor! Bin men at 5am in the morning Guests coming in upto 3am in the morning - great laughter Would I/We stay again??? Definitely not!!! Overpriced, not 4 stars, aloof member of staff who let her team down. Cutting corners with food delivery and prep. The whole place needs a makeover!! Also, car parking, none on site, was £25 for 24hrs at Monk Bar and the hotel do not give/offer discount. Yep, a £350 charge with no car park!…
Beautiful and very clean rooms, The food is excellent historical place, best location & very alert, helpful and alert stuff. I will definitely book there again on my next trip. Shame I didn ´t stay longer.
Paying for location and history of hotel. Rooms really dark, external fan came on every morning 6:45am. No plugs near mirrors for drying hair, kettle had to go on the floor. Myself and friend had same meal, I had no sauce on pasta had to send back, waitress mentioned they looked different! External awning in court yard made rooms really dark. Travel companions had no hot water, as I booked the hotel felt guilty for poor experience
What a lovely pub, its really cute and quirky and i love the outdoor space, it offers lovely food and a good selection of Beers. You certainly couldn't get a better location in York to stay in, right in the middle of things. I must say a big Thank you to David who you book the night before for a Free guided walking tour of York, this man knows so much about history and clearly loves York, it was fun and informative i would definitely recommend it, as it helps you get your bearings in the City so you can work out what you want to go back to for a more indepth look after, i'm sure we wouldn't have found some of the places if we hadn't had a tour with David, and at the end you just give him a tip, i recoomend you do this on your first day in York.
