+ good location for exploring the walled city + breakfast was full English & tasty + bed was comfortable - room was too warm. A small, portable fan is provided but it’s noisy - shower never got really warm/hot - room is quite small (#6) - 10:30 am checkout is early I would’ve left a higher rating if we were charged a fair rate. $350USD for 1 night is very excessive for these accommodations.
We stayed for 3 nights at this delightful property. We were warmly welcomed by Carol a very friendly and hard working lady; she cooked a delicious breakfast for us each morning and nothing was too much trouble for her. We were in Room 5 on the second floor and did find the stairs a bit of a struggle given we are both in our seventies so would probably choose a room on the lower floor if we go again, which is highly likely. The room itself though not spacious was big enough and the ensuite shower room was actually bigger than most in a property of this size. Our beds were very comfortable and all the linen and towels were clean, fresh and of a good quality. The location of the property is excellent. It is situated at the end of a very quiet street and there is a short cut which takes you through the Museum Gardens onto Museum Street and the centre in 5 minutes. There is also another pathway which takes you directly to the Railway Station in less than 10 minutes. The starting point for the Hop On, Hop Off buses is at Exhibition Square, Bootham Bar, which again is only a 5 minute walk. The cost of breakfast is not included in the room rate, it is an extra £15 per person. Initially I thought this was a little expensive so opted to have breakfast on the first morning and then maybe look for a cafe close by for the rest of our stay. But we found that there wasn't much to be saved in doing this, and chose to eat at the property in a comfortable dining room with excellent service. Eating out does seem quite expensive in York; having said that we found two places we would highly recommend: Cafe No8 Bistro on Gillygate (not far from the property) and Cote Brasserie on Low Petergate. We had excellent meals and service at both.…
Lovely one night stay at 23 St Mary’s with family. It definitely has the homely feel with the use of a comfortable lounge area and an honesty bar facility for drinks and snacks. Great location near to museum gardens and through to the centre. All areas were very clean, great facilities, friendly, personable service and super breakfast thanks to Carol and Demi.
We stay here 3 to 4 times a year. As always we had a lovely room, comfortable bed and a great breakfast with plenty of choice. The people are friendly and helpful and we wouldn't want to stay anywhere else in York. It's only a 10 minute walk to the Minster.
Brilliant all round from our very warm welcome to our very reluctant departure Fabulous room with modern en- suite, quality toiletries, lovely big, soft towels. Very comfortable bed with quality bedding. We had two marvellous nights sleep, very quiet & peaceful. Everywhere is spotlessly clean. The breakfasts were superb, a good choice of fresh fruit, cereals, juices etc. and a good selection of hot food, beautifully cooked to your liking and well presented. The staff are wonderful, everything runs so smoothly because they work as a team. They are all kind, friendly and helpful, full of information. Nothing was too much trouble. No. 23 is very conveniently situated, just a short walk to the Minster through a beautiful park. We are so glad we found this treasure.
Booked a last minute trip to York for family of 4. We struck gold with our B&B. Our room & bathroom were very spacious, well maintained & spotlessly clean. Lovely furniture & decor with interesting artwork by local artist. Carol & Demi were very welcoming and cooked us a tasty breakfast to order. Peaceful at night, despite being very near the centre of York. Would definitely return.
Had a wonderful mini break in York, this B&B was a fantastic find. Parking was on the doorstep, the B& B itself is literally minutes away from the Minster so the location is perfect. It’s very clean and cosy it has everything you need, the staff are welcoming and the breakfast is well worth the money. We had a wonderful stay and will be back again soon.
Lovely clean, fresh room with a really nice bathroom, in a quiet street, in the heart of York Very accommodating host, we booked late & last minute and she was great! Walking distance into the town to see everything, with bars & eateries all close by. Booking direct with the host, we had parking in the street which was also great. This was expensive, however it appears everywhere is expensive in York and I couldn't complain about anything.
This B&B advertises themselves as 'luxury' which was not our experience. I can't be too hard on them because the location was perfect (which was our priority) and the room and linen was very clean. We stayed for one night and would not have wanted to stay any more than that. Our standard double en-suite room could not have been any smaller - you could hardly turn around! There wasn't even enough floor space to put our overnight bags on the floor and still be able to walk around the bed! The shower door would not remain closed and kept folding in making an already very small shower even more claustrophobic and very annoying! There was some very nice shower gel, shampoo and hand wash provided though. Having thought at the time of booking that breakfast was included at this B&B, we were told on arrival it would be further £15 per head! We decided this seemed too expensive and found breakfast nearby for pretty much the same price, so you need to make a decision whether you want to go to some of the lovely little cafes nearby, or the convenience of having it on-site. No water in the rooms either so the only drinking water is the cold tap in the bathroom which runs hot because it's so close to the hot pipe! There was tea and coffee facilities which was appreciated. The location is definitely the highlight of this B&B as it was an easy walk into town along the river. The road outside was quiet and they provide a parking permit for the time you're staying with them.…
We mistakenly booked this guest house and it was the best mistake of our lives. There was a trust shop which immediately gave us a feeling of security. The rooms were lovely with a TV by each bedside. The bathroom and bedding was of a high quality. Fresh and clean. Breakfast was served efficiently, with hot toast and delicious sausages. The staff were so obliging and unflustered by the demands of some of the guests. We have booked for 3 nights in April and we are really looking forward to staying again.
