We expected to pay a bit more to stay by the river but the hotel wasn't really anything special. The staff were disinterested on check in, there was no room service at all and the room was in need of a refurb (looks as though someone had thrown a glass of red wine over the walls and ceiling. The bed was comfy however and we had plenty of warm water. I just expected a bit more for over £100 a night and non-grumpy staff!

Oh my, the main disappointment was Basil Faulty wasn’t actually there. The bedrooms albeit spacious was adorned with the cheapest furniture that makes Spanish hotel furniture palatial. The bed is on castors that moved at the slightest touch therefor we woke up on the other side of the room. When we moved the bed back the bedside tables fell off the wall 😂😂 The bed wasn’t comfortable old worn out and cranky like most of the hotel and the pillows were flat as a pancake. Staff were very disengaged like robots with less personality. Especially the one on reception who didn’t care when we asked about the travelling bed etc. when we checked out 🤣 Breakfast was just hilarious from start to finish. You had a set time to arrive it was table service. After asking how I wanted my egg I asked for a hard boiled egg hard, which arrived soft I told a member of staff who brought me 2 hard boiled eggs after I’d finished my breakfast. We were given 1 sliced of toast each and asking for another slice we were then brought 4 slices. Coffee was that weak I think it must have been run through the filter all week. To much of our disappointment the tinsel and turkey crew didn’t find things as funny as we did. Thank goodness it was a wowcher deal wouldn’t stay again but it was funny we had a laugh!!

We have become regular visitors to York and this hotel is quite central. Our room had a double and a single, not the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in, could do with some investment in new more comfortable beds. There is a shower over the bath, my personal preference is a shower which is easier to get in and out of, I don't think this hotel offers this option other than in a disabled room. The previous buffet breakfast has ceased because of covid but your order is taken and brought to your table, you still have to mingle at the help yourself tea/coffee cereal/juice area though. The food is tasty and plentiful. There are not many plug sockets available so if you both want to charge your phone, you will need to take your turn. Although the hotel is in a relatively quiet area, I think we will try somewhere else next time as the beds were too hard for my comfort.

I recently went to the queens, and on arrival the girl with dark hair on reception was ok but could of been better didn’t get any relevant info except check out time, the room was ok but nothing worth the money we paid the full place needs a full refurb! The icing on the cake was getting service from a women so rude, it put me off my breakfast. Her name was Sarah and she barked orders at us. This women could do with some lessons in customer service and needs some people skills! She let the full hotel down, felt on edge and uncomfortable eating around this vile woman. She was coughing into her hand and did not wash then brought our cutlery over, found this rather disgusting considering the current situation.

Just had 3 night here & had a lovely stay. Room was big, with a king & a single bed. Room was clean which is a huge thing for me as have stayed at a few previously in Manchester that were vile. Hotel is well situated for all that the centre of York has to offer. Staff all very pleasant and polite. Getting a breakfast every morning as part of the cost was great. Anything from a full English to just cereal or toast. We have one small observation and that is the rooms could do with a small fridge. Nowhere to keep juice or water cold!!!!!
