This is a one-of hotel of a very high standard. Family run, highly professional, efficient and friendly. The rooms are spotless and the beds are very comfortable. The bar area has a Laurel and Hardy theme which is a great touch. It has a good selection and reasonably priced drinks. The sitting room/TV lounge is comfortable. The front of the hotel- garden and seating area - is absolutely stunning and very relaxing after a day in York The centre is a 15 minute walk. We also enjoyed walking round the nearby York racecourse and exploring the former Terry's chocolate factory building. Onto the food - generous portions, excellent quality and friendly waiting staff. We stayed for 4 nights and will definitely return. Thank you Tim, Fiona and all the staff for a lovely stay. x
Love this hotel,we were thier last year, but with all the covid restrictions, we decided to try again. The staff are so friendly, and welcoming. Originally book in for just 3 nights, but there is so much to see in York town,we booked another night, which was absolutely no problem with the hotel staff. Breakfast in the morning has a such a good choice, and again all staff are so welcoming. They have a nice relaxing bar, and a bonus in York they have free parking, most hotels can charge you.
Just returned After a weekend at Wheatlands Lodge Hotel and thoroughly enjoyed it as much as last time we visited. The staff go above and beyond to make you feel welcome. The rooms are comfortable with everything you need. The breakfast is delicious and service is exceptional. Friendly bar which is well stocked . Lovely gardens out front to sit and have a drink. Would certainly recommend. Thank you for a lovely weekend. See you when we visit York again x
We stayed for two nights with friends and were pleased with the hotel overall. The staff were excellent, both professional and very friendly. Breakfast was very good as was the welcome tea/coffee. The only slight failing was that our twin room needed some attention to the decor which was stained in parts. Having said that we would stay here again. There was a large party of school children staying whilst we were there but they were really well behaved and a credit to the school and teachers.
A great welcome on arrival with a friendly receptionist The room was clean and tidy The public areas are beautiful to relax I with a fantastic garden at the front Great location to walk into the centre of York Quiet from road noise and parking at back Would definitely recommend and stay here again Every member of staff went above and beyond Great breakfast menu with extra toast if required What’s not to like
A group of three friends celebrating a birthday and attending York Races. We stayed two nights (breakfast was included in the price of the room) July 7th-9th. Booked two rooms a twin and single both of which were adequate, clean and tidy. Toiletries were provided as were tea and coffee making facilities and free WiFi. The breakfast in the morning was very good. Choice of fruit juice, cereals, porridge etc followed by full English (there was a vegetarian option) the service friendly and prompt. There was a lovely cozy bar and longe. As the weather was good we took advantage of the outside seating area (see photo) on the second night having a relaxing drink after the races. I'd read on the information card in the room that sandwiches could be purchased at the bar. After some initial confusion as to whether this was the case or not. We were pleasantly suprised by the quantity and quality of said sandwiches. Thick ham not the sliced variety you come across in supermarkets intended for sandwiches. Some garnish and crisps. The Resturaunt did provide an evening meal option but as we did not partake I am unable to comment on quality or choice. We were quite suprised to discover that The Wheatlands Lodge is only rated 2 star we would rate it higher. On the plus side- value for money, friendly and helpful staff. One instance of, on discovering when we checked in that the following day we were going to the races Tim advised us that if we required a taxi the next day to book it that night, which he would be happy to do for us. As we were unlikely to be able to get one the next day.Having said that both the city centre and races are within easy walking distance. Slight downside, which didn't bother us but may others depending on circumstances- No lift although there are ground floor rooms. The rooms were on the small side not an issue for a few nights but maybe if staying longer and the TV in the twin was small but hey we hadn't gone to York to sit in the room and watch TV! Overall big thumbs up would definitely stay again, infact we intend to later in the year and have no hesitation recommending it to others.…
Room we stayed in very basic and very cramped glad it was only a single night. It was clean and tidy and very much suited to low budget accommodation. Good location with a brisk walk into York around 15 minutes.
We have just stayed here for 2 nights and what a lovely weekend it was too. Friendly greeting on arrival with complimentary cup of tea or coffee. Plus free parking which is rare in York. Hotel lovely and clean and staff were pleasant and very helpful. Felt very welcoming and homely, not corporate like some hotels. Once we unpacked we was able to get a drink from the bar and sit out on the well kept garden and relax. Breakfast was super, everything on offer and could ask for extra if you wanted it, all served to your table. York centre is a short walk away and lots to see and do, no need to move the car which was great and meant we could have a drink by the river without worrying about driving. Saturday evening there was a gentleman playing live music in the bar area which added to a lovely atmosphere. Would definitely stay here again and would recommend to all my friends. A huge thank you to Tim and the team, you made our stay a memory we won't forget. We will definitely be back soon.…
Like previous reviews we also parked out front but still close to hotel, Maz checked us in, what a friendly polite and helpful lady, she gave us a lot of information and tips about the area, we walked everywhere we went it is so much easier than trying to find parking which was expensive, our room was spotless, there were toiletries in shower room, Wi-Fi and tea making facilities, plenty of choice for breakfast, nothing was too much trouble, waitresses were polite and friendly, I will definitely be going back for the next dolls house fair at York race course and wouldn’t stay anywhere else, I highly recommend this hotel for whatever your time in York is for, thankyou from two happy guests.
