The room was far too hot. I know it's a listed building but there should have at least been a fan as the weather was hot. We couldn't sleep at all due to in being a small stuffy room, all though they are decorated beautifully there should be a warning about the outside noise of these rooms. Obviously no double glazing due to the building being listed. When we eventually did get to sleep we were woken by loud bin collection of bottles and barrels at 5.30am. Not a pleasant stay , if you do book make sure you book a terrace or larger room. It was very disappointing, the breakfast was ok but you have a choice of cooked breakfast or porridge not a great selection and it doesn't reflect the rating

This hotel seems to have a 5 star rating. I find this a little hard when there is no lift. Our room was on the top floor (4 flights of narrow stairs) and with four bags, it was a major breathing exercise for middle-aged people! I also question the star rating when there is no mini-fridge in the room. You would like to store drinks and have milk for tea/coffee but you couldn't. Milk had to be ordered the day before and came in a little tiny bottle with nowhere to store it. Saying that, I give a big round of applause to the staff who were very helpful and polite. The food was amazing, as was the wine list and the breakfast was superb. It was a good quality base to explore York. It was central and amazing quiet at night given it's proximity to the abundance of revelling hen and stag nights. The room was big, great view of the Minster, giant comfortable bed and jet bath. However, a room safe was missing. I usually find these essential and so would remove another 0.1 stars for this. Room service was brilliant attended by three waitresses (must be used to 4 flights of stairs with heavy trays!). I would give it 4.7 stars and would definitely book again (and bring a cool bag).

Booked a table for birthday treat and on arriving where shown to a table a little out of the way, which was fine, however after 20 mins of waiting - no menus, no server contact, no one to ask for menus, nothing - so much so we got up and walked out and nobody to tell. Appalling! After being recommended and hyped up - we are very disappointed after this place being recommended and hyped up!

We picked it because of it's location and it was indeed perfect. Close to the station (we came by train) and smack in the middle of all the action. Everything was as advertised. The staff was professional and friendly. The front terrace was apparently the place to be for sun-downers in York and the food deserves a special mention. Overall a very very pleasant experience. Would return and recommend.

Came here for a spot of lunch with my wife whilst on a shopping trip, weren’t disappointed at all with our choice of eating establishment. Nice patio area out front or plenty of room inside. Excellent choice on the menu, we chose the butchers sharing platter, which we both very much enjoyed. Looking forward to our next visit.

My husband and I stayed in a terrace room in April this year. The room was modern and cosy and everything was arranged for ease of getting ready. Also the hotel's location is great. What I couldn't understand though was the fact of being able to have a cooked breakfast and or continental breakfast ,none of it tasted appetising. We would have preferred less choice but better quality ingredients served hot to order on hot plates. We feel that for the money charged this side of things let's the hotel down because you are in a 4* hotel so breakfast should reflect this?

Warm welcome and we were able to check in early as our room was already available. We chose a double character room which was really nice. It does get rather warm so I advise to open windows in the room. There were tea and coffee facilities and the bathroom with jacuzzi had all the toiletries you would need. Couple of minor things was attention to detail in room (12) where pipe work in bathroom was broken but this I suppose adds character to the building and did not affect our stay. The restaurant was ok but the menu choice is limited. Plus when we went for dinner our server could not confirm at our end we had already prepaid for dinner when we booked. Plus staff could not advise what flavour the soup was and had to go away and check. Little things like this took away some of the service I expected for what we paid. The breakfast too is vey light and not substantial unless you eat a full English breakfast ie once you pick your choice that is it and can’t have anything else other than what you choose. No offer to refill our tea and coffee either. Although nice I would not stay again due to issues mentioned and expected better for the price paid

Stayed here for 1 night in April 2022. Have nothing bad at all to say about the hotel. The room was very clean and nicely decorated. Staff leave fresh milk at your door each morning which is a nice touch. Staff were very friendly and approachable. Had a few drinks at the hotel bar upon arrival, nice classy bar area and was served quickly for drinks. The included breakfast (we had the full English) the following morning was very good quality and the service was quick. The hotel is located within the city walls so perfectly located to explore York. A little bit pricey at £136 a night (that included breakfast) but it’s well worth the money. Will definitely be returning during our next visit to York.

Met some friends for a bite to eat and drinks, were seated out the back which was great as it wasn’t crowded although temp was very hot! Food was average but the service was appalling. Comments from the staff ‘will get to you when we can’, ‘we’re understaffed, management wont do anything about it’ was the theme of the few hours we were here. Drink orders wrong, but you had to wait so long for them it was pointless trying to get them back. Drinks and food taken and put down at the wrong table. The only thing that was quick was the bill! SORT YOURSELVES OUT!
