I booked a bed last minute after finding myself stuck in York overnight. The location is very convenient for the train station. The hostel is clean and the staff were very friendly. Overall it was crazy good value and I would recommend it to anyone. I’ll certainly stay there again.

This was my 2nd visit here. It is in a great location, close to the train station and the city centre. I always request a bottom bunk, as i can not climb the ladders to the top bunk with the lights on never mind the lights off. Once I checked in I was put on the top floor with no lift. I tied to have this changed, but unfortunately this could not be done. There is a shower room/toilet (the toilet had no sanitary bin) in the room to which the door is very slim. There needs to be more regular cleaning. There was a dog running around all floors, which I have never seen in a hostel before. Although on this occasion I did not have a great experience, I would probably visit here again due to price, and location.

Hello. Thank You for your review. I'm pleased you like our central location and affordable rates! My apologies you could not get a bottom bunk and we were fully booked so you couldn't move to a different room. The dog isn't usually here, he had just popped by with the manager to fix an issue in the hostel! Sorry your stay wasn't as pleasant as usual, I hope next time you come we can make it up to you. Hope to see you again, Lois.

Stayed here with the family for a recent city break (4 children) and we were able to book a private ensuite room. Unfortunately, one of the windows did not have a blind on it, so lots of light early in the morning which affected our night's sleep. Ensuite was very cramped and quite 'tired' looking - cracked sink, no toilet paper in the toilet roll holder (just placed on top of it) etc. The room was really dusty - which may have been because all the windows were open but not pleasant to have to wipe down the beds before making them. Also, advertises wifi being available, however this is only available in certain parts of the building. We had no signal in our rooms which was frustrating. On a plus note, the staff were all super helpful and informative. There is a communal kitchen you can use and the luggage storage is so handy. They are close to the train station and close to town - so very convenient to get in and out of the city.

Hello Joel, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. While I wish you had a better experience, it is feedback like this that we learn from and use to improve. We work hard to deliver an exceptional guest experience, and it's apparent in this case that we fell short. If you give us a chance to earn back your trust, I can assure you that we will do our best to give you the great hostel experience that so many of our guests have grown so fond of. Kind Regards, Laurine

Went with young grandchildren (aged 2,4 & 7). They loved the bunk beds and cheese for breakfast 😂 We all loved the relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff. Rooms were lovely and clean and staff were very helpful. Would not have chosen a hostel for a family holiday before COVID but would recommend to anyone with children. Hostel is walking distance from the attractions and bus/taxi rides away from York maze. Will definitely book again !

Stayed here for my son in laws stag do. We all had a great nights stay, beds comfortable, shower and toilet fine, bit of a rush with only 1 shower between 10 lads but we got there. The bar is excellent and the prices were very reasonable for York. We found all of the staff to be spot during our trip. Check in and out faultless, thanks safestay.
