Stayed here for 4 nights in Dorm Room 10.

Check-in was straight-forward as I’d already supplied information through their online system, so I was quickly given my access card. The reception area also had a lounge area with low desks and chairs, and middle eastern style kilim covered waist high loungers. There’s even an ATM and vending machines.

The room I stayed in was a six bunk mixed dorm room with an ensuite shower and separate toilet. Both the showers and toilet were cleaned daily, so kept clean. The room also had a supply of toilet tissue. So that part of the room was well thought out. The room was quite spacious even with six bunks, all of which were arranged against walls and a large space in the middle of the room. It would’ve been spacious if one of the guests hadn’t decided to use it as his personal space for dirty laundry.

Clean covers were provided for the bedding, but guests had to put the covers on themselves. The covers were thick, but I found the room too hot already and only half heartedly used the cover. The pillow was so thin. Maybe I’m just too used to a thicker pillow, but I found that uncomfortable. The mattress was a low level of comfort. I guess the mattress must’ve been one of those foam mattresses and too thin for my liking. It was so uncomfortable to sleep on. Ordinarily I would’ve slept okay except that the bunk bed was wooden and a little loose, then I also had a bunkmate with some truly appalling dorm etiquette. Jumping in and out of bed, late at night and early in the morning. Not to mention practicing martial arts while lying in bed. The bunk also had a personal light, electrical socket and a USB port.

The staff were all great. All were approachable and friendly.

Location wise, the hostel is about 10 minutes walk to the Tower Hill underground station and about 20 minutes to Liverpool Street. There’s plenty of cafes, restaurants and supermarkets nearby, although the location is also in the eastern edge of the city and many of the cafes are closed on the weekend.

Overall, I thought the hostel and room were clean, and the facilities were good. Sleep was not great for the aforementioned reasons. Having a pig for a roommate is beyond the control of the hostel. Usually when you book a smaller shared room with a private bathroom, the standards of roommates are higher, but I guess I was unfortunate.

Not far from a subway station, a pub and a supermarket. Stable wifi. Currently it doesn't seem that they are serving a breakfast, but there are plenty of options in town. The windows are quite old and let pass the wind through, but the heating was working well. Clean bathroom that was cleaned every day. Individual electronic lockers in the rooms: you don't need to bring a locker yourself. Bed sheets were provided as well.
A common kitchen or at least a place where we can get hot water would be appreciated. The matrasses are old: mine had clearly a low trough in the middle. A bit of bad smell in the room.

Facilities were very clean and the staff were kind and helpful. After checking out they also have a secure locker room for belongings that you can only access with a ticket which was great as our train wasn't until the evening. Affordable with great social spaces- would definitely reccomend.

I have stayed here twice.
First time in Aug/September 2021 - I was able to put my luggage in a free luggage room, and there was a nice chill out area by reception. The room was big, and had a huge window, and en suite and a toilet. The room was spotless, and cleaned daily, so much so that my toothbrush was taken from my shelf by the bed and my bed was stripped, which meant one night i cam back after midnight, and had to go and get some bedding from reception, and make up my bed, as well as buy a new toothbrush. The bar was not open in communal area, but the communal area was nice, there was a tv, and a kitchen area close by where you could make your food from fresh. The location is great. I paid about £22.00 a night and had a nice stay. I would have rated it about 4 stars.
However my second visit in March 2023 was completely different. - I booked this place based on my previous experience. It was a bit pricier this time £35.00 a night, which I didn't mind paying. I turned up just before lunch time, and was told I could leave my luggage in the luggage room down stairs, which was now a service that needed to be paid for by card only. I decided to wait until reception was open. The chill out area has turned into a cafe area. Reception opened early, but did not make anyone in reception area aware, and a few schools checked in which delayed everyone else. I checked into a room which was dark, and hot, I had to go to reception to get some bedding. I made my bed, and then went to a local shop to get something to make in the kitchen to eat. I bought a few bits, and labeled and dated the items I didn't use, to use at a later date. The items were gone next time I went to use them. I checked al the fridges. I went to use the tv, and it was not working so I asked the guy at the bar, and he said he will right it down on his notes, but was not willing to look at the tv or help out. I went back to my room, and had an early night. The rooms were quite stuffy, and not much ventilation or lighting as there was tiny windows, and the windows did not open much. The rooms were not cleaned daily, and rubbish had built up that consisted of leftover take outs etc.. It was like this for at least 2 of the days I was there. The toilets were not cleaned regularly and there was little silver bugs on the floor, so don't walk around bare foot. I went to reception to enquire about renting a towel. I was handed a towel, and then when I asked how much it was I was laughed at.
This place is in a great location, but the reception needs some customer service training.
Just shows you how completely different experiences you can have at the same place.
I will not stay here again.

We stay in a twin room. there are no chairs and desks in the room, but with an individual toilet and a shower room. The breakfast was quite good but charged 6.4 pounds. It's quite annoying that the railway is really close to the hostel. The noise is really loud, however, there's no train from midnight till morning.
the shampoo and shower gel cost 0.5 pounds, but we got a set free on the first day. It's quite confusing. the employees seem not well trained.

Finally, the heater was no functioning in the whole building during my stay.

I stayed at Wombats London for a few nights. As with other Wombats hostels, this hostel isn’t glitzy or glamorous but it is cozy and provides all the amenities you need. Being an Aussie with no tolerance for the cold English climate, I particularly loved now warm and toasty it was the moment you walked into the hostel!

The hostel is a 10 minute walk to both Aldgate East and Tower Hill train stations which makes it easy to navigate around by public transport.

Would happily stay here again!

One of the nicest hostels I've ever been in! Not only was the room so peaceful, quiet and clean the bed was comfortable and everyone seemed to be extremely respectful of everyone else.

The staff are super friendly and very helpful.

The common areas were always clean and beautiful.

I would not only just recommend this place, I'll definitely be back myself.

Booked this as relatively cheap (£137 for a double room) compared to the competition. But on a steamy evening the lack of air con and the windows that only opened a crack led to an uncomfortable night. Might be OK at other times.
Not sure what the "Take your sheets to reception" instruction with the room key was on about, assume just for dorm rooms but they should really say.
Only one shower get dispense by the sink so you have to get out of the shower to get some.
And would a glass be too much to provide?

Great experience for my first time. Super clean! The cleaning lady came and mopped and disinfected the bathroom and floors each day. Bed sheets provided were clean. The staff is super helpful and even helped me locate some cool things to do in London. Definitely would stay again.

This hostel often hosts school children and they are everywhere, especially around the common areas. If you don't mind this, it's a pretty nice place, but otherwise, please don't book because not only can it be annoying, but you won't be able to use any of the common areas.

Also, bathrooms and showers are part of the unit so whenever anyone takes a shower it will be heard in the entire room.
