The title of this review describes AR London to a tee.
We have just returned from a five day visit exploring London and chose to stay in the Artist Residence London for two nights to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday during our visit.
From arriving at the hotel we felt at home , we got a warm and friendly welcome by all of the team. We arrived early , before the room was ready , our bags were taken until we returned from our day of exploring. Upon our return , we were swiftly checked in and shown to the room where out bags awaited us. A quick explanation of the room from a member of the team and we were left , a lovely personal touch. we had been upgraded to a Medium room which was on the 2nd floor, just be aware due to the age of the building there is no lift.
The room was lovely , clean and spacious with lots of little homely touches with a quirky, retro feel. Everything in the room was in full working order , we had a bulb that needed replacing at one point but after we returned to the room it has been fixed. A special mention to India for arranging some lovely surprises in the room for my girlfriends birthday.
We had two restful night's sleep in a lovely queensize bed. Our room was serviced and left fully restocked. We felt very safe as all COVID procedures are in place.
We didn't want to leave, this was our first visit to AR, and certainly will not be the last.
Thank you AR for a perfect stay and keep up the good work. We wish you all well in these challenging times.
We will see you againpost COVID 👍👌👌

We were looking for a relaxed place for lunch, with good value food and drinks. This place didn’t disappoint, 10 minutes walk from Victoria. It offered a small but tasty lunch menu, which came to £90 for two including a couple of gin and tonics, a decent bottle of red and service. Highly recommended.

I only stayed for one night and didn't have the chance to try the food or bar downstairs.

The building is a converted pub (which you can still see on Google street view from one angle). You enter through the bar downstairs and are taken around to the small lobby by the hotel stairs. My welcome was warm and friendly and I was moved from a small double to a medium room without fuss.

I was in room 5 which had a large bed, good furnishings and creature comforts such as slippers, gowns and even a charging kit and adaptor. Water, a couple of snacks and fresh milk are all in the room. The TV in the corner of the room was not very big but it worked well and I feel it was kept small so as not to detract from the ambience and style of the room.

The toiletries are lovely, although some people might baulk at the shared bottles. This room had no bath but it did have a good-sized shower.

There is no view to speak of as you are in a townhouse in the middle of London so any way your room faces will look onto either the front or back of another house. But the room had a sunblind to give privacy without overly darkening the room, and thick curtains, which didn't quite blackout the room but are effective.

There was air-conditioning for comfort and plenty of light, although strangely, my lights in the bathroom wouldn't turn off due to a faulty dimmer switch; they just dimmed.

My short time at the hotel was comfortable and pleasant and I would certainly stay again.

Really great location in Pimlico and away from the tourist side of London, although only a 15 min walk to the Kings Road & Sloane Square. Absolutely loved the style of the hotel - quirky but really good quality. We booked a "small" bedroom and although it was small, the design of the room was really well thought through, so it didn't actually feel that small. Lovely touches in the room like a bottle of fresh milk in the fridge, sleep spray on the bedside table, caramel bars, complimentary water and really nice toiletries. Great shower and the ergonomics of the bathroom as well as the bedroom worked really well. The location was also quiet - no late night noise outside at all. We will definitely return - thank you!

The hotel looks amazing with eclectic, innovative artwork strewn everywhere, including the rooms. The facilities were outstanding with all of the basics covered, plus whisky tumblers, wine glasses, champagne flutes, corkscrew, toothbrush, toothpaste and phone chargers . The bed was very comfy and the breakfast we had was fab. A bacon sarnie and the smashed avocado with feta, chilli and lemon. What a great place!

A wonderful little hotel tucked in a quiet street within 5 minutes walk of Victoria. A home from home, delightful service and great food. You need to be fit to access the rooms at the top of the hotel .. but it’s worth the climb! Our room came with a well stocked fridge including cold milk, kettle coffee making equipment, toiletries. Hard to think of anything that might have been missing. Service is charming and unstuffy as is the whole experience.

We stayed for 2 nights in the London Residence, after originally booking the Cornwall residence and having to re-arrange due to Covid-19. We had a great stay and would highly recommend it for the location, for the style, for the food but above all for the welcoming and friendly staff throughout. They generate an atmosphere of calm and relaxation, which is accentuated by the design of the rooms.
Loved it.

The service is incredible, everyone is so helpful and thoughtful. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is cool yet relaxed. We went from coffees while we worked (with great WiFi connection) then moved on to drinks, and then a late supper. Enjoyed every moment. Thoroughly recommend!

We thought the hotel was fine. The room was comfortable and the bathroom was nice. The shower was amazing. We appreciated the amenities in room and the coffee was pretty good. The Bramley products were nice and I was pleased with my gift of hand soap to take home. The restaurant service was extremely slow - the servers were over busy and had too many different things to do so we didn’t feel we got attentive service at breakfast or even late at night for cocktails when the place was nearly empty.
We had read reviews that the service was amazing so I was disappointed that we didn’t feel looked after by the staff. I did appreciate one member of staff who I only saw twice who brought me bread and sparkling water when I was sick in the middle of the night. I wished I had seen him more, he was kind and very professional.
I would not recommend the hotel because it was very expensive and didn’t feel worth how much we spent, especially for friends our age (mid 20s)

We stayed 4 nights in the top floor room called The Loft. This is a lovely premium priced room, and it was exactly what we had been looking for when we booked: personal, homely and with some cool decorations. It also came with everything you would expect from a room at this price level, including space. The location is also great. A quiet street, but only 5 minutes walk from Victoria Station.

The homely touch is also present elsewhere. There is no reception. You basically walk into the restaurant, and the staff there is also the hotel staff. There is no lift (elevator), so whatever heavy suitcases you bring will have to be carried up the steep narrow stairs. As far as we understood, there was no help offered to get the bags to the room.

We were very happy with the room, breakfast offering and serving staff. Overall, it felt like this is more a restaurant with rooms than a hotel with a restaurant. Unfortunately, we ended up with a bit of a negative customer service experience. Even though this was based on an expectation gap from our side, it could have been handled in a nicer way.

There is no gym but I’m sure if you contact the hotel they would know of one not too far away. It’s in Pimlico so there’s a lot within walking distance. Hope that can be of some help.

Is there a car park in the hotel?
Answer from Jaz C

Dear jpj2015, Unfortunately we have no parking at the hotel itself however we are very lucky to have two car parks on our doorstep. We recommend one of the following two: 1. Q-Park on Winchester Street is only 3 minutes away and offers secure parking from £3 per and £24 per 24 hours. Discount codes are available at the hotel. 2. Green Parking on Guildhouse Street is a great alternative to the above and is also very close to the hotel, being only 6 minutes walk away. Rates start from £5 per 2 hours and £20 for overnight. Off-street parking on Saturdays and Sundays is free so please bear that in mind if you are traveling to us on weekends but be aware of the congestion charge, as we would hate for you to get a fine. Kind regards, AR Team
