The Zetter Clerkenwell is a 13-bedroom Georgian townhouse with an award-winning cocktail Parlour located just on the historic St John's Square. This eclectic property feels more like the private residence and features 13 bedrooms completely unique, with different, bold shades of heritage colours and vivacious antique pieces. Every corner of the property is crammed full of collectibles, taxidermy and ‘Victoriana’ and as soon as guests enter the light blue front door they feel as if they've stumbled upon something secret and special. The cocktail lounge is a destination in itself. With the team onsite creating the most delicious cocktails and flavour pairings, each recipe features bespoke ingredients developed and made by the bar team in the lab. Stuffed full of oddities and curios, with an open fire crackling in the grate, the relaxed, sitting room is equally suited to a lazy afternoon indulging on Afternoon Tea as it is a night of uproarious revelry. This unique boutique property is also available to hire exclusively.

We had a wonderful time at the Zetter townhouse, everything was perfect from the warm welcome on Friday afternoon, to the waiting staff going out of their way to find us a table on the Friday evening so we could enjoy drinks with friends who were visiting London also. The room was gorgeous and quirky with a great attention to detail and luxurious details in the fabrics and accessories for the room. These weren’t superficial details as the bed was so comfy it was one of the best nights sleep I’ve ever had and the seats were comfy to sit in and relax. The tea and coffee in the room was high quality so we could enjoy some down time. At the hostess’s suggestion we ordered breakfast to our room and we’re not disappointed, it was hot and super tasty! We definitely will be back and it was very much worth the money, in a quiet square with a gorgeous bar downstairs you couldn’t ask for more from a city hotel!

We hired the Dining Room for an Afternoon Tea as part of Hen Weekend. The room itself was filled with a beautiful collection of odditities that created great atmosphere. The afternoon tea itself was delicious, with the classic elements such as scones, finger sandwiches, while also including nibbles reflective of the venue like mint choc chip macaroons! The food was also very accomodating to various allergies within the party. The package also included 2 cocktails that were really light and refreshing. I was definately recommend as a more luxrious afternoon tea option in London.

Lovely quirky hotel, comfortable, clean and fantastic staff. Central location. My room was large and had all the amenities. I liked the extra touch of a hot water bottle on the bed and still and sparking water in the room

I have stayed here before and left a 5* review. Post-Covid I will be in London a lot more for work and this would be my base as the last stay was great and the location is perfect for me.

However this stay I got back to find my room had not been cleaned, I called housekeeping to ask for clean cups and asked why the room had not been cleaned. After a frustrating conversation I ended up cleaning the cups, teapot and cafetière in my sink. Not ideal. I asked her to ensure that the room was cleaned the next day.

The next day I came back at 1am to find that my room had not been cleaned again. This meant having to go back downstairs and find someone to give me some towels. When I checked out I was told that my room had not been cleaned as 'the internal door was closed and we did not know if you were in the room'. The internal door was closed because there was an adjoining room and I could hear them talking when I was in the room. Apparently despite calling the room and knocking on the internal door numerous times (I had also told housekeeping I was out for the rest of the day at 11am) they decided I must be in the room. Bizarre.

Having complained to the Hotel via email when I returned home I was told that cleaning was on request. I was not told this and there was no information in the room regarding this. I have taken my previous review into account or this would be less then 3 stars. Three nights stay with no cleaning is unacceptable at a Holiday Inn never mind a 4 star hotel.

Good morning, Thank you for taking the time to leave this review. I'm sorry to hear you feel this way. The team work very hard to navigate this tricky time, with wants and needs for the many different guests we get, we have found a happy medium where all guests are notified upon arrival and given a written information explaining housekeeping service is on request only along with other helpful bits of information. I am sorry when you requested it this was not able to be completed. Kind regards, Cameron

Lovely small hotel, welcoming and helpful staff. Comfortable rooms - book a larger deluxe room if you want a little more space for luggage and storing clothes. Great cocktail bar, with a range of interesting non alcoholic drinks too. While there is a discounted room rate available this is good value for a city centre London hotel of this standard. Ask for a room at the back if you want peace and quiet but you won’t get a view of the Shard!

Rooms are nicely and recently decorated.

To save most the hotel only does room cleaning on request. If you’re staying more than one night you will need to request more shampoo and shower gel every day. It would be easier to bring your own.

Breakfast is confusing and the manager who was serving was not very empathetic and had a heated and unnecessarily argumentative discussion about the lack of explanation with another customer.

We paid for a king deluxe and was spit in the accessible room which meant there’s no bath.

They need to put themselves in their customers’ shoes more.

Overall I was disappointed.

Good afternoon, Thank you for taking the time to leave your thoughts of the Townhouse. You are correct, we only do housekeeping on request which we always explain upon check-in, I appreciate you think its due to cost ,however, cleaning a room daily contributes negatively to ones carbon footprint, something a lot of our guest are very conscious of. One of the many reasons guests like to stay with us is due to the care and attention we take when thinking about the impact we have on our planet. I'm sorry you found breakfast confusing, Please feel free to contact me directly next time you book and I will be happy to explain anything for you and ensure you have a lovely stay. Kind regards, Cameron Bownes

Quite simply delightful! Quirky and exuding charm, this historic London house has an informal atmosphere where guests are made to feel completely at home yet very special. Comfortable and well appointed rooms, tip top service, lovely staff and an excellent breakfast added up to a memorable experience. A privileged step back in time. Highly recommended.

We had the most wonderful stay at this hotel! Having never celebrated our anniversary, this year we decided to check into a London hotel for a break from the kid. The hotel made our stay extra special, they were so welcoming and even upgraded us to the most beautiful and spacious suite - the Townhouse apartment - and sent up complimentary glasses of champagne. The room was amazing, the bath incredible, the decor so elegant, quirky and fun and the bar and breakfast were amazing. We had the best time, and plan to make this a yearly tradition!

We arrived for a cream tea but stayed for cocktails. The cream tea was one of the best I’ve had a mixture of the classic Wilhamina ( sandwiches )and Seymour (pastries) with a nice selection of teas. The staff (friendly and knowledgable) were welcoming and put us at ease in the lovely quirky surroundings . After we couldn’t resist in tasting some of the highest quality cocktails on offer . A pleasure going and a big thank you to the staff .

A perfect stay from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. I booked a stay as a surprise for my husband's birthday and we were treated to an upgrade to the Junior Suite, which is stunning in every way.

Everyone working at the hotel was so attentive, nothing was too much trouble and every little detail was thought of. We had great cocktails before heading out for dinner and breakfast was lovely.

On a practical note, it is super quiet and the blackout blinds and amazing bed make for a great night's sleep.

The Townhouse Clerkenwell is 15 mins by tube to the West End, 20 mins walk from the British Museum and the great food of Exmouth Market is just up the road. It was the perfect base for everything we needed.

Can't wait to stay again!

Yes. The hotel will give you a pass for a neighborhood gym if you ask at check in and it’s 5 minutes walk from the hotel.
