Despite its outdated decor and basic amenities, the Ibis London Blackfriars often receives praise for its cleanliness and friendly service. While some guests find the rooms small and worn, the prime location close to attractions and public transport is a highlight for many. Opinions on value and comfort are mixed, with certain travelers citing issues with air conditioning and noise, yet others appreciate the breakfast selection and central convenience.

This hotel was booked for me by my company as I was attending a training course at head office. I had two stays of 4 nights booked.
The location is very good, only a couple of minutes walk to the south bank of the Thames and very accessible to other areas such as the City.
I checked in online in advance so the process of collecting my room key was very quick and I was given a quiet room as requested. The room was good, usual Ibis standard.
I had breakfast every day which had a good variety, was tasty and hot and was good value for money. I had an evening meal on three nights and again found the food good in both terms of taste and value for money. One thing that would have been better is maybe one or two options on the menu with vegetables as most seemed to be with chips (although the chips were really good). I found in the restaurant and bar and indeed all of the areas of the hotel the staff were very friendly. The hotel seemed much quieter than normal as the Covronavirus was just starting to have an impact, but despite this the staff were still always upbeat.
When I checked out I requested the same room again for the following week as I liked the quietness. When I checked back in they managed to give me the same room and an early check in (at 0930).
All in all I really enjoyed my stay and I would highly recommend this hotel and I hope it thrives again once the Coronavrius has passed.

We spent the night in London to attend the London fireworks. The hotel is an easy few minutes walk from blackfriars station. Indeed, all of the locations that we visited over the 24 hours in london were within 15 mins walk, so we didnt need to use our oyster cards. There are a number of pubs by the river and the Tate Modern is close by. We were checked in very quickly. The room was larger then we expected with a bed that was confortably firm. We had the city view that I had booked. The room was on 13th floor and we enjoyed an uninterrupted sleep after our busy evening seeing in the new decade.
The breakfast was very good . We had ours included in the room rate. However, I think the hotel charge about £10 which is certainly good value for a london breakfast buffet

Amazing location to reach your favorite attraction either through the Southwark Underground Station 🚇, double decker bus or taxi.

The Jubilee line took us to Baker Street in 15 minutes and in less than 10 minutes we were looking at the Big Ben.

ROOM

Just like another Ibis in Paris, liquid soap is provided (no soap bar 🧼). Unlike the one in Paris, iron and iron board are provided.

There is an independent Air Conditioning ❄️ unit for each room that turns off automatically after 10 hours of operation. I’d recommend being wise on how to use it since rooms get warm during the summer, to avoid it being turned off in the middle of the night.

There is one single cube with three 220V outlets ⚡️ and 3 USB ports to charge your electronics.

You’ll also find a tea pot 🫖 and cookies 🍪 in case you want a free, light breakfast.

Beds are very simple but do the job. Just like another Ibis in Paris, there are no light sheets, just heavy covers.

SERVICE

Attention to clients is what makes guests come back to a location and recommend it.

Even though glasses in our bathrooms were not replaced (Nor in Paris, probably an Accor policy) and me and my family were rudely kicked out of the dining area by Arturo upon our arrival, recognition goes out to the following hosts:

Abijit: For standing up for us when Arturo was rudely kicking us out, allowing us to finish our dinner from Fishcotheque 👏🏼.

Nadia: For keeping us refreshed with vital water 💧 every day, specially during a heat wave.

Jorge: For giving us a gourmet tour and detailed description of all the options offered during breakfast 🍳 .

Marina: For ensuring we had a comfortable last day in London 🇬🇧, offering to keep our luggage 🧳 and working hard to ensure our transportation to the airport made it on time.

AMENITIES

Free WiFi is fast and much appreciated!

Breakfast is not included but for £11.5 per adult or £5.50 per child (5-11 years old) one gets to choose from croissants 🥐 to fresh fruit 🍌 to a full English breakfast 🥓, until 11am.

And although there is no restaurant in the hotel for lunch or dinner, there’s one next door in the Novotel hotel, also is part of the Accor line of hotels 🏨. We signed up for Accor ALL online to get discounts when staying across Europe.

We had to get a double and a triple room to accommodate our party. The triple is the largest room and that’s a downside of this property. Although at an average of £109 per room per night in July, we couldn’t ask for more.

We were lucky enough to book 2 nights for a mum and daughter birthday treat in London feeling that a reasonable hotel would be ok rather than super expensive and how right we were. They couldn’t have done more, balloons and bubbles, spotlessly clean, very nice staff and so close to the underground and the Thames. The breakfast was great value and very tasty and again incredibly clean. The only thing I had to ask for was more towels as they were very small but a lot of people have said the same as me but that wasn’t even an issue. They kept our bags for free both times we requested this and we enjoyed a quiet half hour before travelling back in the cool restful clean foyer. I would definitely stay again thanks

We were here 12 nights and I thought it was a good choice. Our room was medium size - twin beds, a padded bench to sit on, small closet and several shelves (enough space for us, as we both travel lightly), small but efficient bathroom with a good shower, and tea/coffee making facility. Free wi-fi 24 hours a day. Cafe on lobby level, nice sitting area, friendly and accommodating staff. A block from Southwark underground station, close to most of the Southbank theatres. I love the location, which is out of the centre of London, yet only a couple of minutes away by tube in a safe and interesting neighborhood.

Booked via Airmiles points for 5 nights breakfast included

Checked in around 1PM and room was ready, Very cordial attendants!

Room was smallish but well appointed. Double bed, wall mounted TV, modular bathroom which seemed prefab, but clean and larger shower than in Paris. View of nearby buildings was a bit bland.

The breakfast was top notch, but did not change at all during the 5 mornings. Scrambled eggs, sausage, tomatoes, mushroom, beans, cheeses, cold cuts, toaster for bread, coffee and juice, as well as yogurts.

Located a few blocks from Southwark tube, this place is very convenient for any London visit.

Would come back

Stayed for 3 nights in September 2021. We enjoyed our stay, and got a good deal on B&B rate.
Bedroom was a little small, but we didn’t mind, the bathroom was quite quirky, pod like, really clean and decent amenities. Different, we liked it.
Room was very quiet, no noise in the evening, coming from other rooms.
Location was excellent.
Staff really friendly, super fast check-in. Breakfast was good, everything you would need.

We had a weekend in London and stayed at this Ibis hotel. Its best asset is its central location just south of the river, within walking distance of Central London locations. On the weekend we were there, it was quite full, and the Sunday breakfast was so busy, people were queuing to get a table. And the buffet-style breakfast was uninspiring. The scrambled eggs were cold, there were no regular yogurts (only some very sour natural yogurts) and no butter.
The room was typical Ibis size with the same design as they maintain around the world (and this was the 9th Ibis hotel I have stayed in). But the curtains did not cover the window, the bathroom door did not close properly and it was difficult to get the toilet flashing to work. But the room was warm enough, the bed was comfortable and the tv worked. I guess this is the best you can get in London without paying hundreds more per night - we already paid £210.

We stayed here for two nights and picked the hotel because it was reasonably close (10 mins in a taxi, around £10, booked through the front desk) to The Oval and also because the bus from Kings Cross railway station stops right outside the hotel. It's near to Southwark tube station and not near any sight in particular but also not far from anything either.

The hotel is as you might expect from an Ibis, somewhat funky, functional rather than luxury, but all done well. We visited during Covid-19 restrictions but this still meant a decent breakfast, just served rather than a hot buffet, and with very long breakfast times (something like 6-11) we were able to enjoy a late and long breakfast before the train home without feeling like we were being ushered out. Evening eating options range from a pub across the road to plenty of street food type places close by (the hotel was not serving food when we visited).

We would quite happily stay here again.

A decent hotel.
The staff is very pleasant and they always want you to have a good time.

From my point of view i think this is a great hotel. The price, the location and the hotel is good.

Many restaurants and pubs in walking distance from the hotel. The tube is just 150 meters from the hotel and the Blackfriar bridge connect you to the rest of London.

The rooms are small but practical built and there are no floor carpets. My impression is that the hotel wants to keep it clean.

The hotel has a lovely bar and restaurant near the lobby.

London, UK28 contributions5 helpful votes
One way would be to take a Thameslink train from Gatwick to London Bridge. Change there to the underground and take the Jubilee line to Southwark Station. The Hotel is less than a minute's walk from Southwark tube station.

The closest restaurant is a pub called “Prince William Henry “ that opens at noon. Before noon, your most convenient option is the hotel’s buffet. (11.50 £ full breakfast, 5.50 £ for children)
