Stayed overnight on a quick visit to London. Reasonably priced and very convenient hotel - just opposite the station.

Clean
Friendly staff
Safe area
Comfortable room

Only downside was there is no option to ventilate your room by opening the window - you have to use a fan which is provided.

Otherwise good hotel and affordable.

Me and my husband recently stayed here and were very impressed with the location being just steps away from Balham tube station and everything else including shops, cafes, restaurants etc just a stone’s throw away. Everywhere was neat and tidy, there wasn’t anything that stood out to us that needed mending or tending to. The room was great value for the location and size of it and we had a really comfortable sleep.

I stay in hotels a lot, and prefer not to use them as they are often quite basic. This was one of the refurbed ones and was really very comfortable. Tip - the hotel is next to tube station and over land train line - see if you can get a room further away from the train line. Even facing the main road was fine. Friendly staff and a good stay. We'll use it again, and hopefully they will have filled the shower gel dispenser by then.

I've stayed in the Balham Travelodge a few times, and without exception it has always been an excellent experience. The staff are all very friendly, and a special note of thanks to Faiyaz who went above and beyond to make my stay comfortable. Faiyaz knew that I had had a very stressful day, and he offered me some sandwiches (for free) which had been donated by the local Pret. This was so very much appreciated and I have witnessed Faiyaz being equally generous to countless other customers.

The rooms in the Travelodge are always very clean and housekeeping do an exceptional job of preparing the rooms for new guests at super speed. I hope they are well paid because it's a stressful job they do. It's a shame that the prices of Travelodges fluctuate so much as it makes it difficult to plan ahead. This is my only gripe with the company.

I hope to stay in the Balham Travelodge again soon, and I consider it to be the warmest and friendliest Travelodge I have stayed in (I've stayed in quite a few!).

Thanks to Faiyaz and the other staff for always making me feel so welcome. Looking forward to seeing you again soon.

I wish I'd done my homework first and read earlier reviews about this hotel especially as I was staying in August when it can be really hot in London. I booked a room for two nights, August 12th and 13th. The check in was great. I arrived around 14:00 and although officially checkin starts at 15:00, unless you pay a £10 early checkin fee, the receptionist let me checkin early for free. I was on a very good deal price wise too. The room was one of their Super Rooms and was an adequate size for London. The room was very clean and had everything you would hope for except for two things. There is no fridge and in August keeping drinks cool would be a good thing to have.

The other thing that would have made the stay comfortable would be air conditioning. Now the hotel doesn't advertise itself as having air-con but it doesn't make blatantly obvious that there is none either. Nor does it make it obvious that you cannot open the windows to ventilate the room. It was like a sauna in there. They do provide a fan which just circulates the hot air. I found it difficult to get to sleep even though I had two fans including a small fan of my own that I bought.

So I was happy with the hotel generally, the cleanliness, the staff but would not even consider staying again in summer months.

Second stay at this Travelodge in the fab area of Balham however this time will be our last. We chose this hotel for our second visit as we had a really good experience there a few years ago but we honestly wished we had stayed elsewhere.
Firstly it wasn’t a particularly warm couple of days weather wise but inside our room it was very uncomfortable, still NO air conditioning- one average sized fan and that was it.. no open windows..between the heat and noise of the fan it was impossible to sleep at night.

Our first night there we were just trying to settle down in the hope we would get some shut eye when there was a disturbance on our floor near our door between a couple of guests, it went on for a few minutes with swearing and loud bangs and what sounded like people being pushed against a wall and fighting!
The second night we tried to doze we were disturbed by someone trying to get into our room!!! My husband rang reception immediately and two members of staff came up to investigate, as he was speaking to them another guest in the room next door to us came out and said he had seen someone trying to get into another room the night before.. he asked the staff what the hell was going on there?!
The two members of staff said they would investigate and apologised and that was that!

The room itself looked old and tired with stains on the bedroom wall, the bathroom was grubby.. a shower curtain ripped all along the top, stains on the mirror shelf and the floor didn’t look like it had been swept and looked dirty.

All in all I would say that in our experience this hotel is not even a place where you could just put your head down because you can’t even sleep there.. it’s really really gone downhill and it’s sad cause Balham is a brilliant place to stay and the hotel is in a fantastic location with the tube being literally a few steps away.

Travelodge is placed in a very good position, few yards from Balham Station. The hotel is clean and the receptionists were very professional and very kind. Quality/price ratio is very good. I can't give 5 stars only because a lot of sockets are placed in the room but no one around the bed and this could be annoying if you are used to (or you have to) use the phone/tablet/laptop (under charge) when staying at bed. In the restroom the sink is really too small.

We had early check in which we were happy about because all we wanted to do when we arrived from Ireland was have a couple of hours sleep before heading out but the room wasnt ready until 1pm instead of 12pm which was a bit of a tiring experience on arrival. Was all sorted out when we got to our room at 1pm. We booked the superior room. The room is very small but it was clean on arrival and had a nice bathroom ideal or what we were looking for just a bed to sleep as we planned having a packed 3 days so only needed for sleep and shower. Its in a FANTASTIC LOCATION if you can use the underground. It is the closest hotel to a station I have ever seen absolutely no walking involved in the 3 days (apart from Winter Wonderland). Lots of high street shops, Greggs for breakfast, local eating places. 2 Nando s in the area. Mcdonalds for snacks. Such easy access to anywhere in the centre of London. You can be anywhere in 10 to 20 minutes. Learn the under ground its just fantastic. I was a little nervous of the area at first but that went after the first few hours. Its not Luxury and it s not Budget it s just basic but everything you need in a hotel. Upgrade to a superior room if you can they are still very small but I think they are renovated but it s all you need in London when you wont be spending a lot of time in your room. Really comfortable stay The room has a hairdryer, fan, iron, coffee machine and Kettle. Friendly staff.
