It is a unique gem of hospitality in a world of its own, with consistent standards of service, affordability and tranquil views, apart from the occasional aeroplanes taking off from City Airport, which can be a source of entertainment. The staff in the restaurant, particularly in the mornings, are incredibly accommodating, and you can get almost anything you want. As he scans and attends to his duties, Nathan stands out with stealth-like hawkishness demonstrable in his ability to recall guest preferences. He is stoic, tainted with humility, and a manager in waiting. The reception team are second to none (every one of them), and the moral simply is ‘don’t start no s… there won't be no s…’ The combination of personalities and characters produces an international feel with an overflowing commitment to the rational needs of guests. The walk to Prince Albert DLR station is far more pleasant than that of Prince Regent (Waterside and Airport View) and, on a function day, less congested, not to mention cleanliness. Plan your trip consistently with a booze bounty everywhere closes early, and shops are a short hike away. There is a specific artificial money-grabbing agenda for many Central West End London Hotels: you are better off staying here for a few minutes more and many pennies less.

As part of his Birthday present, I bought my son some ringside tickets for the WWE Smackdown & Money in the Bank events at the 02 Arena on the evenings of the 30th June & 1st July respectively and was looking for a nearby 4-star hotel with great connectivity to the Arena. As we were driving up from home in Wales, on-site car-parking was also a 'must' for us. After assessing our options I decided to reserve a twin room for 2 nights stay through Booking.com at the Doubletree London Excel.
I emailed ahead to the General Manager, Richard Mackie and asked if it was possible to be allocated a room with a waterside view. I also cited my Hilton Honors number. I was delighted to be emailed back by Richard to say that they would do their best and then again he emailed on the day of our arrival to say that we had been given a complimentary upgrade to a Deluxe Twin Room with Water View.
We easily located the hotel using Satnav and found ample parking space when we arrived around 4pm. Externally, the property presents as a pleasing, modern six-storey building next to Royal Victoria Dock. It is one of several major hotel chains with properties nearby. On entering the smart lobby area, there are several reception desks, with a Restaurant and comfortably furnished Bar to the left and right of the foyer. We were given a friendly welcome, with check-in being efficiently handled (accompanied by Doubletree's signature warm cookies). As I turned to enter my vehicle details in the ipad provided, I was informed that Richard had arranged for our parking to be complimentary for our stay.
We were allocated room 530 and we took one of the two elevators to the 5th floor. We entered our spacious room and were delighted. To the right was a spacious shower room with walk-in shower, vanity washbasin with huge mirrors and shaving mirror and w/c. As this was a Deluxe room, we had been left 2 luxurious cotton bathrobes and matching slippers. There was an array of complimentary toiletries in pump action dispensers, shower caps and a good selection of fluffy white towels of various sizes. Lighting was excellent.
Moving in to the bedroom, we had two very comfortable Queen beds, bedside tables, bedside lamps with integral reading spotlights, easy chair, swivel chair, desk, wardrobe, table lamp, digital safe, iron, ironing board, hairdryer and an extra-large wall-mounted flat-screen TV (with hotel information and Freeview TV channels along with a 'casting' option to view programmes from your personal device).
There was a kettle along with tea-bags, coffee bags, Biscoff biscuits, two bottles of Mineral Water and also a Nespresso machine with a variety of coffee pods. We were provided with two mugs and two tumblers.
We had also been left two beautifully gift-boxed cupcakes and a handwritten Birthday Card for my son. Shortly after we arrived in our room, the Duty Manager called to check that we had settled-in and that everything was to our liking. Lovely personal touches that I would normally expect to find only in 5-star Boutique Hotels.
The attractive view from the large picture windows was directly over the waters of the dock, looking left to the London City Airport; looking right to the 02 Arena and beyond to the soaring buildings of Canary Wharf. The acoustic insulation of the windows was excellent and we enjoyed two great night's sleep.
Both in our room and throughout the hotel, housekeeping was immaculate and all staff pleasant, helpful and genuinely friendly.
If attending an exhibition at the Excel Conference Centre, it is a 2 minute walk from the hotel. The nearby Prince Regent Docklands Light Railway (DLR) station is a 5 minute stroll and offers immediate connectivity to the 02 (a 15 min journey, changing at Canning Town). It is also it is your seamless link to the wider Tube network across Central London. There is also a Cable Car 15 mins stroll away that offers a fun alternative option to take you to direct to the 02.
Between our 02 events, we spent a pleasant day exploring Greenwich, with tickets to the Cutty Sark, Royal Observatory, Planetarium and National Maritime Museum - a 20 minute journey by DLR & Tube.
In summary, a modern hotel, perfectly situated for both venues and events in East London. Top marks to General Manager Richard Mackie and his wonderful staff for making my son's Birthday stay at the Doubletree so memorable.

A fabulous hotel in a great setting! We were booked to see ABBA Voyage in the east of London, and were meeting friends of ours so thought we’d make a long weekend of it. We didn’t want to pay West End prices, and so picked this hotel in a great spot, with views over London City Airport with easy to use tube/DLR transport links to get to anywhere in London. The views of the Royal Albert Dock were beautiful too, and we enjoyed watching the canoeists training on the water. The hotel itself was beautiful, clean with friendly, helpful staff. We thoroughly enjoyed our warm welcome cookies and appreciated there being water on tap in the lobby area. The bar restaurant served great food and had very comfortable seating. The breakfast room, which was huge, had lovely views over the dock again, and breakfast was delicious. A special mention must be made for Rahat, who checked we were happy with everything and was very helpful and friendly. He went out of his way to help us and other guests at breakfast. The rooms themselves were very comfortable and we slept well. Again, we had great views over the dock and airport. The rooms were very soundproofed so we barely noticed the noise of planes taking off and landing. We will be back! Thank you Doubletree by Hilton London Excel.

The hotel was clean and tidy and the team were efficient. However, the parking was awful and I was totally blocked in by someone parked outside a space when I came to leave. My biggest issue was the lack of communication and general pleasantries from the hotel staff. Two messages that went unanswered meaning they failed to accommodate my request and the bar/waiting staff were borderline rude with absolutely no conversation or pleasantries. Breakfast and evening meal on the first day were good, but second Breakfast was barely warm and evening meal was exactly the same. Housekeeping team would also park their trolleys outside the door to my room and bang around from an early hour. Despite me contacting Hilton direct and them requesting the hotel to call me, no contact from them. A shame really as it had the potential to be a good stay. The Premier Inn would have been better.

The Hotel is located about 5 minutes walk from the DLR Prince Regent station. Sadly, due to current construction work outside the Ex Cell you have to walk the longer way to get there from the station. However it's only a 10 minutes bus ride from London City Airport. The hotel is definitely the high standard I have come to expect from Hilton. I was appreciated as a diamond member and received a warm and friendly welcome from Chinx at reception, given the signature doubletree cookie, and drinks vouchers.
I was given a room upgrade to deluxe room, with the most wonderful views of the dock. The room was equipped with A/C, TV, a coffee machine, Kettle for tea & coffee. The bathroom was spotlessly clean and the towels really soft. It had a really great bath with a hand shower, and the little touches like bathrobe and slippers, luxury responsible toiletries etc. The bed was extremely comfortable with the high thread count cotton sheets. Breakfast is a buffet service with helpful staff on hand. It has a good selection of hot and cold food, a chef on duty to prepare omelettes etc. and the coffee from the machine is excellent. The hotel has complementary wifi throughout and in my room was good, and more than adequate for emails etc. All the staff at the hotel certainly go the extra mile, and made to feel at home and very much a valued guest. I would like to take this opportunity thank all the staff, from house keeping, restaurant, Bar, and reception The Hotels location is excellent, for the Ex Cell, London city airport. It certainly offers excellent value for money.

My stay at presented a blend of positives and letdowns. The room's cleanliness and overall condition were commendable, offering a comfortable stay. Opting for a room with a water view and balcony, my anticipation was met with slight disappointment due to the prominent construction view and limited visibility of the water. It would have been appreciated if the hotel had transparently disclosed the restricted view beforehand.
Regrettably, the hotel couldn't accommodate a special request for a couple's engagement without an additional fee of £50. It's the small gestures that often make a significant impact, and this missed opportunity was disappointing.
Exploring Central London from the hotel wasn't as challenging as expected, which was a pleasant surprise. However, the expensive parking rates, while common in London hotels, could have been mitigated with a guest discount, perhaps a 50% reduction, considering most guests leave their cars parked during their stay.
In summary, boasts clean rooms, but clearer communication regarding views and a more accommodating approach towards special occasions without extra charges would greatly enhance the guest experience. Additionally, a parking discount for guests would be a thoughtful touch to consider.

unfortunately not 5 stars but close - just didn’t have the edge for me to give it 5. hotel was generally very clean, greeted by friendly and welcoming staff. room was tidy, clean & sofa bed was made ready. decent sized television, free wifi, a safe & tea/coffee making facilities. room view was okay but you can’t help that. bathroom very clean & shower had a good pressure to it so you did feel clean afterward. towels & showering facilities are included also. we found the beds quite low, and very hard. the beds only came with one pillow each and those also had a weird feel and didn’t feel right. breakfast was included and is all you can eat. scrambled egg was delicious and there are coffee machines available to make hot drinks. we stayed here overnight as we were watching a show at the O2 - travelling wise, this hotel is in a convenient location and just a short walk from the DLR. i’d stay here again but i’d try and find somewhere with comfier beds first. thanks to the staff for a lovely stay.

Me and my boyfriend often stay at this Hilton, we absolutely love it! Staff are always so friendly, special thanks to Din and Sabrina! Not forgetting the free warm cookies on arrival! We actually ended up staying two nights, one night in a junior suite which was incredible and another night in a master suite which was more incredible! Very spacious and bright, love the interior. Includes a separate lounge area with a large tv in both lounge and bedroom and ceiling to floor windows. Suites include a coffee machine, kettle, tea, coffee, milk, bath robes and slippers. Now although the suites are amazing and I’d love to stay there all the time, the standard rooms are also spacious enough for short stays we often stay in those too! Highly recommend place to stay! And we have stayed in many luxury hotels, this is a great stay at a reasonable price. Please note prices always vary depending if there are events happening at excel and around the area.

Hello,
I’m sure if you have a word with the manager, this should be something they are able to arrange. I have heard in the past of friends who have done something similar to this. Give the restaurant a call from your room or ask down at reception. I hope he has a lovely birthday!
