Come and stay in the heart of bohemian London. YHA Oxford Street is a modern backpackers hostel offering comfortable yet cheap accommodation in London's West End and offers an eclectic mix of cafes, pubs, cinemas, quirky boutiques and a great alternative nightlife, all within a 5 minute walking distance of the hostel. This is a busy city centre hostel offering a range of 3 and 4 bed dorms, twin bunk or double bed private rooms, all with shared facilities. Breakfast is available daily as well as a fully equipped self catering kitchen. Our cafe/bar offers a range of hot and cold beverages to refresh you after a long day of sightseeing or prepare you for a night out. Families with young children might prefer YHA London Central or YHA St Paul's for a quieter London break. This hostel is not suitable for groups of more than 8 people- see YHA Thameside or YHA St Paul's. We apologise, but due to the building architecture we have no wheelchair accessible facilities at YHA Oxford Street, the lift only goes as far as our 3rd floor reception. Access to rooms on level 4 and 5 is by stairs. Our nearest hostels with full access is YHA London Central.

We really enjoyed our recent stay at YHA Oxford St. The hostel is well situated, everything in Soho and Covent Garden is within reasonable walking distance. You do have to climb some stairs once you’ve ridden the elevator up to the reception. Not ideal with large suitcases, but could be worse. Entry into the hostel from the front door downstairs, the door from the reception to the common areas and your room is controlled by key card. We felt quite safe, even though the street and neighborhood was a little “colorful” due to the New Year festivities!
Our three bed room was compact, but efficient. Allowing us to fit three large suitcases and still have room to move around. It would have been nice to have a couple more coat hooks in the room. I noticed from other reviews that there weren’t any hooks in the room for a hand towel, so I took suction cup ones and stuck them to the mirror. The heater in the room was quite good, it was nice to be able to open the window to let some fresh air in during the day.
I made a request in my reservation for a room with a view of the London Eye, just in case our plan for going to see the New Year’s Eve fireworks didn’t pan out. The staff noticed and did their best, which was appreciated. We could just see a peek of the top!
The toilets were kept supplied and clean. It seemed like there was always water on the floor though, which was inevitable considering how tiny the sinks were and the placement of the hand dryers. The showers were clean and well lit, it did seem like a few were in need of maintenance. You could use ones on other floors though, I never had to wait.
The kitchen and common dining room were a nice feature. We took advantage of the breakfast every morning and were quite happy with the food, both quality and quantity. Space in the shared fridge wasn’t an issue and people were considerate of others with their use of the facilities.
When it was time to leave, we made use of the luggage storage lockers in the basement. £3 each use, but we could fit both a large suitcases and a carryon in each one. It was nice to have this service available.
I would definitely stay at the YHA Oxford St again and would heartily recommend it to others.

The hostel was well maintained and the staff was friendly. The location is great, very close to Oxford Circus which can get you pretty much anywhere around London via the tube. Considering it is in Soho, it has lots of restaurants which can be a bit pricey, but there are several cheaper cafes that I recommend for breakfast or a quick snack.

This hostel is located just behind Oxford street m &s and nearly opposite their back entrance. 15 min walk to Soho and Leicester square. Ideal for theatres, shops and nightlife. Very compact and modern and clean. Metal beds and basins in private rooms. No sofas or lounge or games room or boot room etc that you'd get in other hostels. Just a kitchen dining room area with a tv. No Wi-Fi in rooms. Aimed at people who are going to be out most of the time. Some nice bars and restaurants just 2 or 3 mins away around the corner in Brewer Street. Very steep stairs to room and no lift from reception - make sure you can carry your luggage round steep tight coners. Entrance is hard to find, looks dodgy and is tucked behind air conditioning units. You go into a tiny lobby with a tiny lift and have to go up to get to reception. I find it intimidating though maybe I'm a bit paranoid. It's not a dodgy part of town. Howver, once in the lift feels quite safe and almost impossible for undesirables to get into body of hostel. I was on my own in a room for 3 (double bed with single over). It would be extremely cramped for 3 and you'd need to take turns dressing even if there just 2 of you. travel light! Only about 600mm space alongside the bed with the basin in too. But that's how they keep the prices low I suppose.

Would 100% recommend staying here. The rooms are basic but very comfortable, clean, and surprisingly spacious, as are the toilets and showers. They included a fan in the rooms, which in 30+ degrees was a welcome addition! The location is fantastic for the money, literally a stones throw from Oxford Street, and 5 minutes from Oxford Circus tube line which makes sight seeing and travelling to museums incredibly easy. Staff were all very helpful and cheerful, and the prices of coffees, teas and snacks (and breakfast!) we’re all very reasonable. We made no use of the kitchen, lounge area or social space, so I’m unsure of what they’re like, but I’m confident that they’d be as comfortable and welcoming as the rest of the facilities. Overall, a wonderful 3 day break. Will definitely be coming back!!

We stayed here for (thankfully) only one night in mid-July. The location is fantastic, the vibe is cool and relaxed, the staff were friendly enough. There was a problem with our key at check-in as the person behind the desk was (I think) a caterer or cleaner who didn't know how to programme door keys as someone had phoned in sick. She was despite this very helpful and friendly and did everything she could to get us sorted before a supervisor arrived.
We stayed in a private room with bunk beds which was perfectly functional but MY GOODNESS was it hot!!! The window opened a couple of millimetres, there is no aircon, there was an electric fan on the wall but not pointing at the beds.
The shower and toilet cubicles were good - was worried about a communal bathroom but they were all private cubicles off the main corridor. I would say though that I am glad our room wasn't opposite the toilets as the hand driers are very loud!
There were communal areas and a little cafe/bar/shop at reception that we didn't make use of.
The reception is up a lot of steps but there is a little lift (though if like me you're irrationally afraid of lifts it is a bit of a scary one!)

Hello there! Thanks for taking you time to leave us a review. We are sorry about the heat you've had to experience, it wasn't a pleasant few days in London. We hope your future stays with YHA will be a bit less hot! And do not be afraid of lifts - every one of them has pretty effective emergency brakes and in the event of a failure your drop would be an awfully short one :)

It was the 3rd time I stayed at the hostel, and as on the 2 previous times, I was very happy with the hostel, the cleanliness, the location. The staff was really nice and helpful, they changed our room when we had a problem with a group of loud, noisy and agitated neighbours and we could finish our stay in a nice and quiet room.
Because the location is so central, we could walk to a musical and rapidly go to many places in London!
I recommend the hostel!

My teenage son and I were so pleased with our stay at YHA London Oxford St. Our room was clean and spacious, and there were plenty of toilets and shower rooms close to our room. The common area was a decent size, and our continental breakfasts were terrific value for money. We wouldn't hesitate to come back.

Stayed in a private room with shared facilities. The room had a basin and mirror plus a full sized mirror which was just perfect :) - we still got bunk beds but we did not mind. To stay so centrally in London at that price is just a bargain! Their breakfast is just a fiver and there’s a Brewdog round the corner :)

I stayed in the 4 female dorm and I slept well. Toilet and showers are shared with other dorm rooms and can be a bit smelly or crowded. Good location and fairly comfortable though. I was seeing a show at the West End and it was in easy walking distance.
