I was initially staying for three nights for a short business trip but then plans changed so I had to stay for an extra few nights.

On my second check-in, Flavia at the front desk went out of her way to help ensure that I received a warm welcome back and the entitled benefits (titanium member), which made me feel very welcomed and turned what was a disappointing change of plan to a silver lining in the end.

So thank you very much Flavia and the front desk team for making my day!

The hotel’s location is unbeatable with the tube station, Westminster Cathedral, Buckingham palace and Victoria train station all within a short walking distance. The rooms are good sized for London and the toiletries/bathrobes/beddings are all very high quality.

I look forward to continue my stay and will likely be coming back for future trips in London.

We Stayed at St Ermin's in May 2021 just as the restrictions eased to allow stays for pleasure, and what a pleasure it was!

First, I must comment on the helpfulness and genuine care that all of the staff show as you are there. No request is too small or too big, they bend over backwards to accommodate you and ensure your stay is fantastic.

The rooms were immaculate, comfortable and quiet, a perfect place to stay when you're surrounded by one of the busiest cities on earth. The common areas are classic and the restaurant modern.

The food and drink at the hotel were just utterly fantastic, I am pretty sure that the bar could make any drink that you could feasibly think of and the burger at the restaurant must've been one of the best I've ever eaten. I must strongly recommend the afternoon tea on the terrace as everything about it was just perfect.

Now, I must also mention the Covid measures that they have in place given the times that we are currently living in. At no point in our stay did we feel unsafe in any way at all. There is hand sanitiser easily available all around the hotel and all the staff wear masks and ensure a safe distance between themselves and guests. The staff are constantly sanitising their hands and the rooms cleaned immaculately every day.

Finally the location of the hotel, everything worth seeing in London is an incredibly easy journey by taxi, public transport or even walking. However saying that the hotel is still quiet and unaffected by the hustle and bustle of London. Despite being just 5 minutes from Buckingham Palace you enter this environment of peace and quiet the minute you start walking up the driveway.

In every possible way this hotel, its staff and manager made sure we had one of the best stays we could've had. I struggle to think of any specific staff member to single out here as every single one did their utmost to ensure our stay was fantastic. Thank you to everyone at St Ermins for the fantastic stay, we cannot wait to come back again. To those reading this review, I implore you to stay at this hotel for whatever reason you're visiting London, you certainly will not regret it.

I was bowled over at how beautiful this hotel's interior was, from the stunning white lobby to the little details like the Tigers and elephants in the plasterwork. St Ermin's has a fascinating history so I would recommend asking someone to tell you more, and checking out the spy exhibition on the ground floor.
The room was spotless and had lovely little touches like sanitiser/mask pack, and chocolate bees - a nod to the 300,000 bees which live in a terrace on the 3rd floor. The bed was extremely comfortable.

The staff are very friendly and seemed to make an extra effort as it can be difficult when wearing masks. Marius was a joy at dinner in Caxton Grill, pairing a wine for my husband and enthusiastically making recommendations for each course.
Dinner and cocktails were excellent so I would recommend.
The breakfast was first class, generous portions and you can choose a mix of small plate alike fruit and pastries, and then mains from the traditional English, to French toast or eggs Benedict.
This hotel is perfectly situated for a walk around St James Park and Buckingham Palace, and is a stone's throw from the Underground.
Thoroughly recommend this hotel!

Hi Sarah! I am over the moon with your review, thank you so much! Our hotel opened in 1899 and we take really good care of the building, did you know that the lobby was designated by JP Briggs, the same architect who designed the Savoy Theatre? You are right when you say we have a fascinating story! The plasterwork took inspiration from Sir Christopher Dresser’s 19th-century books of botanical illustrations. Our mantra has always been: “A home to you, but a hotel to us” and I am really proud of how my team made you feel! I would pass your message onto Marius and the team, who I’m sure will be delighted to receive your feedback. We look forward to welcoming you again. Chose it for its location adjacent to the St. James Park underground on the Circle and District Lines, and walking distance to Buckingham Palace and Westminster Abbey/Palace/Big Ben. Was very pleasantly surprised by how quiet the neighborhood is around the hotel. We had the Afternoon Tea the day we arrived, and it was a cosy and very convenient location to scratch an Afternoon Tea off the trip list. The serving was plentiful and a great bargain for 38GBP/person. Brought leftovers up to our room, and had yummy desserts again later. Just need to make reservations ahead of time.

Room was exceptionally quiet. Only noise to be heard was from the other side of the door if people walking by were talking, but the walls are solid and there is no adjacent room noise. We did hear some noise from above us though.

Shower is the nicest shower stall I've had in any hotel in the UK, a large, full walk-in, with a glass door that encloses it, not just the half partition that leaves your back open to the cold air. Rainshower fixture on the ceiling with really good water pressure heated up really quickly. Honestly didn't want to get out of the shower because it was so nice. Bodywash, Shampoo, and Conditioner are refillable bottles mounted to the shower wall, and I will say that the dispensers are not great. Took too many pumps to get enough product out.

The staff was great and very responsive. At this time, the hotel is still trying to fully reopen and because of lack of staffing, we were told that housekeeping would only be available every other day but that they could provide anything we needed in between time (i.e., extra towels). The one time we did make a request, it was attended to very promptly.

The Wi-Fi is strong, and we were able to connect even from the little takeaway shop (Abokado) on the corner of the building where we often grabbed a quick breakfast to go before the day's adventures.

According to husband, the fitness center (gym) is decent, with a couple of machines, and plates up to 20KG to load the barbell up to 300 lbs total weight.

We loved our stay (and are sad that we're about to check-out). Would totally stay here again for a good rate.

Further confirming my love of Autograph Collection properties, St Ermin’s is a great hotel, neatly tucked away behind St. James’ Park Underground station in central London. It is within walking distance from the royal parks, Buckingham Palace, Westminster, and very well connected through London’s sprawling bus and train network.

The hotel lobby is very welcoming, with grand staircases leading up to the tea room and the mezzanine floor. Check in was efficient and the staff very friendly. The leading rooms can vary in size from cosy to spacious by European standards, but all are immaculate, very clean and in excellent condition. My room had a comfortable bed, a desk/work area and complimentary tea and coffee. The bathroom had a big shower cubicle. Again, the size of the bathroom can vary from small to spacious depending on what room you get. All come with complimentary White Company bathroom amenities.

I found room service and housekeeping to be very responsive and helpful with any requests. I also highly recommend the hotel’s afternoon high tea, particularly during the festive Christmas period. One of my highlights was their signature Christmas tea blend!

Interestingly, the property also has its own “Bee & Bee Hotel” - an outside hive which can be observed behind glass on the third floor and from where the hotel produces its own honey. Fascinating to watch.

All in all, this is an excellent choice in London and would not hesitate to recommend it for both business and pleasure.

Hotel Name: St. Ermin Hotel

Location: Westminster/London 5 minute walk to St. James Park Underground stop

Room: We booked our stay using Bonvoy points and paid for an upgrade to a King Executive room. On the positive side of things, the room was fully functional with all electrical outlets working. Sofa. Comfortable bed. Small closet to hang things up.

The downside was the size! This room was considered to be an upgrade based primarily on size (to go from a queen to king sized bed). Space was a bit tight! We were able to manage though with limited problem for our five nights there.

Bathroom: On the upside, everything here was in good working order! Clean! Functional! However, it’s quite tiny! And getting in/out of the tub/shower combination is simply a death-trap! I can only imagine the number of people who slip/fall trying to get in/out. And since the floor of the tub is higher than that of the rest of the bathroom floor, any fall is likely going to result in injury. Fortunately for us, we were careful each time getting in/out.

WiFi: Both signal strength and speed were excellent here! We were both able to stream content simultaneously without any buffering or slow-downs noticeable.

Restaurant: We had two dinners and breakfast daily at the hotel restaurant. Food quality was consistently good! (French toast and Belgian waffle are both to die for!) Dinners were both good, with some exceptional dessert offerings (the Pavlova was outstanding!)

Staff: Front desk staff and concierge were both approachable and friendly. The rest of the staff were rarely visible. Housekeeping did an excellent job!

Overall: This is a stately hotel with charm! Refurbishment appears to be recent and building is being well cared for. The location is easy for the Underground, and a 5 minute walk to Westminster Abbey and Parliament.

London is not an inexpensive city. Rates at this hotel are on par with those of other similar four star hotels. With that said, the bathrooms and overall room size are a little concerning. Everything else though was top notch.

Hi there First of all, thank you for taking the time to write a review for our hotel. I’m so pleased you enjoyed your experience in Caxton Grill, generally the comments we receive are extremely positive and I’m delighted you highlighted the good variety on offer. I am also pleased to read that you found our team friendly and approachable. This is exactly the customer service we aim for every day As we are a historic hotel built in the 1890’s some of our rooms (and bathrooms) do have Victorian quirks that work for some people and not for others, However, we do have many different categories of room at St. Ermin’s and all vary in shape and size mainly due to the unique way in which our old girl was built. Unfortunately, I am unable to trace your reservation from your trip advisor name, but please do speak to reservations when booking your next stay as they will be pleased to assist with sizes to make your stay more comfortable for you. I hope we can welcome you again to make your stay better. Warm Regards Douglas Douglas McHugh General Manager

The entrance and lobby of this hotel are even more stunning in real life than they appear in the photographs. Our room was small but well furnished, with a comfortable queen-size bed and a decent bath and shower. The buffet breakfast was good, with plenty of hot and cold choices. The front-desk staff were friendly and helpful.

There are no recycling facilities. The free WiFi is slow, but for a charge you can upgrade.

The location is unbeatable, with all the major West End attractions located within walking distance. There is a Tube station just a few steps away.

I had made a reservation for 8 persons for Afternoon Tea and received a wonderful, prompt and professional response to all of my emails. Friends then called the hotel to add an additional 3 adults and 2 children to my original booking and were told by the hotel this was not an issue. However when we arrived on the day there was only a table laid for 8 and there was no record of the extra 5 persons.

There didn’t appear to be any concern or urgency to find out why this booking was incorrect and so became all a little chaotic. An effort was made to try to extend the table that had been laid for 8 but clearly there was not enough room. Eventually after trying to assess where we could have a table to fit us all it was suggested that we go to the terrace. Once again round tables were pushed together in an area that would not have been big enough in front of the bar, this would not have been suitable so we settled for four separate round tables in the area at the other end of the terrace which had been my suggestion as I was trying to make good the situation. This wasn’t ideal but at least we were all in one area.

The food that was served was very nice, enjoyable sandwiches and cakes, with a great Gluten Free option and very cute boxes served for the children, which they thoroughly enjoyed. However, we waited a long time for the food to arrive and had to ask when it was due. When it did arrive it was just placed on the tables with no explanation as to what was being served. We waited patiently for our glass of champagne to accompany the food, but once again had to ask for this as it had not been offered at any stage and we were already half way through. We continued to wait for the tea to be served and again it didn’t arrive without us asking and then having to ask again for scones.

Most of the staff were helpful and friendly but there was also a few that were very abrupt and appeared as though they couldn’t be bothered or wanted us to be there. We would have stayed for more drinks but we didn’t feel that we had been made that welcome and that everything was too much trouble. We left and ventured to the St James Court Hotel on Buckingham Gate where we were shown a very warm welcome and was looked after by attentive & very friendly staff who made the rest of our afternoon extremely enjoyable.

I have stayed at the hotel in the past and have also visited numerous times for drinks and have only ever experienced a fabulous service hence my recommendation for the weekend. Needless to say I feel a little embarrassed by this experience. I also reluctantly paid for a service charge which I frankly feel was not worthy of the day, I didn’t want to raise this at the time as I didn’t want the rest of the guests to feel any more uncomfortable. I’ve visited a number of venues in London for afternoon tea and I am sad to say that this didn’t rate very high compared to others.

I will continue to visit your hotel in the future as I hope this was an isolated incident.
However, I felt it necessary to write and inform them of my experience so they may put measures in place so the error with the booking doesn’t reoccur in the future and maybe additional training may be given to other staff. I received a standard response informing me they took my comments on board.

Maybe it’s a cliché, but St. Ermin’s Hotel really does combine historic elegance with modern comforts and great customer service. The location is handy to most of central London, including Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, the Churchill War Rooms, and St. James Park. The interior architecture is spectacular. Don’t miss the lobby display recounting the hotel’s role in World War II spy operations. There are a variety of room types ranging from small rooms with a bed, a desk and a chair to roomy and nicely furnished suites (which are well worth the cost of an upgrade). There was some confusion when we checked in on what room type we had reserved, but it was quickly resolved by the people at front desk, which, like the rest of the hotel staff, were invariably polite, efficient and helpful. When room service promised delivery within 20 minutes, the food was there in 20 minutes. The room service breakfast menu is extensive. However, the all-day room service menu is rather limited and from the fancy Caxton Grill; it would have been helpful to have some casual options like sandwiches. The rooms are clean, comfortable and elegant, with great beds and spotless bathrooms. Nice little touches abound, including a safe, a lighted and well-stocked tea and coffee area, a lighted mini-frig and lighted closets. The only thing lacking in our room was adequate shelf space in the bathroom. Overall, our stay was very enjoyable.

We stayed here Xmas 2019. Started off a little rough bc room we booked could not accommodate 4 people and we specified 4 people on our reservation. They were accommodating and gave us two adjoining rooms. Our kids are older so this was not a problem but could have been major issue with younger kids. Rooms were fine but I had booked a suite so the two they gave us were more basic. The breakfast as great. One somewhat irritating thing is that they don’t have a little store or mini bar so you have to get room service for a soda or bag of chips. Hotel lobby is gorgeous. Very nicely deco for the holiday. Service was good.
