Ok, confession time. We normally stay in 4 and 5 star hotels based on who’s got a great deal at that time. So it’s not comparing like with like, but we have also stayed in several travelodges around the country so we do know what to expect.

On the negative side, too many people (guests) walking up and down the corridors late at night and leaving room doors to slam closed. So very grumpy in the morning.
The room wasn’t minimalist, it was bleak; Every thing that could be omitted had been omitted eg a window that looked out onto flats but no voile or blind, so the curtain had to be closed most of the time. One light switch by the bed ie only on one side of the bed. Plastic shower curtain that let water run into the floor - and no shower mat to put on the floor. No hooks in the bathroom. Small I heated towel rail = towels that stay wet.

On the plus side, it was clean, the staff were all lovely and helpful (including in the breakfast room/ bar). The location is really good eg 10 mins brisk walk to Brick Lane, and very close to both Aldgate and Liverpool Street stations. It’s cheap.

So I guess it’s a matter of choice.

Ps Did I mention that the train tracks run underneath the hotel?

The hotel is 5 minutes away from the liverpool street metro stop one of the best connected. The location is perfect. There is a McDonalds and several fast food chains next door.
even though the hotel room is small, the bed is very good and could be found in superior hotels. The bathroom is small and the shower is curtain, however I have no complaints that it fulfills its function. The room has manual heating and a fan.

The staff was very kind to us. Especially Anita and the blond girl in the morning. The hotel is very cozy and the staff very friendly and close

The only drawback I could put is that sometimes there are no dryers so I would recommend that you take your own.

We booked this to stay for a couple of nights to do some activities in London. There's good and bad points to this hotel, listed as follows.
Good:
Location ideal for Liverpool Street to get anywhere easily.
Cleanliness was absolutely fine, I'm in my hotel to wash and sleep, nothing else.
Bed comfortable and extra pillows if needed.
Noise levels were low and if you shut the windows you can't hear a thing outside.
All communal areas were clean and tidy and staff helpful when they were there.
Bad:
Broken shower head which had water cascading over the floor in the bathroom.
Cafe closed, no warning of this until you came to actually want something then you found a sign on the door, yet breakfasts still being advertised in room.
Staff presence minimal at times, I would have advised them of the problem with the shower but I couldn't find anyone to tell before I left.
Based on the price I paid for this hotel (£40 per night) I would stay again as it was adequate for the purpose I required it, with a working shower...

I stayed here for three nights on a short business trip. The location of this hotel is very good being half way between London Liverpool Street and the office location I was visiting. Not a tourist area but great for business stays.
Check in was smooth, quick and friendly and my room was clean, tidy and the standard Travelodge style I would expect.
As I was working long days I did not want to walk around the area looking for places to eat in the evening so decided to eat in the cafe bar but I would really not recommend that. The service was friendly but extremely slow (different single member of staff each evening so not their fault). The problem was that it needs two members of staff not one and I presume that is due to cost. They would be better off just having a bar and no food. I had to wait each evening while the single member of staff cooked the previous orders and when they came out to serve the food they would take the next peoples orders. On the second night I was waiting for my food to be delivered and someone else complained to the manager about the time. He came in told the barman/cook/waiter to respond to the bar bell and then went back out. management training needed I think! No help just a "hurry up".
When the food arrived it was warm - not hot - every evening.
There are some great restaurants within a short walk from this hotel and if I come back I would make the effort to go to one of them.
Despite being on the 5th floor the noise from outside (nearby bar and traffic) was not great, it was lucky that I had to be up early as the 6am traffic precludes a late morning nap.
Overall I would prefer not to stay here but it was much cheaper then the other hotels of similar level in the area and if needed I would providing it was not for too many nights.

I’ve stayed before in this Travelodge in London and I was so happy with the service and the quality, this time I came with my friends. We took two rooms to stay over for 2 nights On Hogmanay. The receptionist was very polite and even though we didn’t have early check in she managed to find two ready rooms next to each other for us. The rooms were good sized, very clean and tidy. The bed was quite comfortable and I personally loved the shower - powerful and good regulated temperature. Perfect location for London, just 2 mins away from Liverpool station!

Do not stay here on business.
I stayed for 11 nights on a business trip. I could have gone with a serviced apartment or Air BNB but I reasoned that in a hotel they would make the bed, replace towels and keep things nice for me while I was coming and going for work. After a couple of days, I asked the staff when they would clean the rooms and they said they wouldn’t. They said it was a Covid rule. This is bogus. I think the chain is using that as an excuse to cut cleaning staff. Guests should be told prior to booking that the rooms will not be cleaned. It is not appropriate to charge £120/night and not let you know there won’t be any housekeeping. Perhaps for half the price it might be acceptable but £120 with no cleaning is very poor value for money. I felt scammed.
My toilet wouldn’t flush and blocked twice. The carpet was filthy with stains. I bought my own soap for the shower and bathroom because the stuff supplied smelled terrible. The bathroom flooded every time someone showered.
If you’re in London for a boozy weekend, use this as a place to crash. It is in no way a place to stay on business or for more than a couple of nights.
The staff were lovely.

This Hotel chain is always at good location, room are standardised, no good or bad surprises, shower pressure and hot water often are stable. You could always hear your neighbours close doors, and at times, something small is not working such as wall socket. Somehow, during my online booking, the system didn’t accept my Master Debit card issued by HK HSBC, i need to pay £2.5 for phone booking but then the phone sales rep also experienced the same.

Chose this hotel for location. Basic facilities as its a Travel lodge. Sense needs some care and attention - trouble with access key getting into the hotel and room over both days of stay, door in bedroom bathroom didn't shut properly.

Reception staff were good and helpful, and breakfast also good.

Main issue was that it cost over £220 for one night, even when booked through my firm's corporate booking agent (who obtain discounts), Even the receptionist when checking out expressed surprise - advising cost is normally between £135 and £190 per night.

I had previously stayed at this travelodge in December 2021 and the experience was not good at all. It was so bad I complained to their customer services team.
Customer services were great and explained why some of the issues had occurred and that they had since addressed these issues.

In May I was visiting London again and this hotel is exactly Location wise where I wanted to be so I thought I would give it another go.

Wow what a difference 6 moths makes. The hotel now has a really friendly team and finally seems fully staffed.
The welcome was amazing, there were lots of cleaners around. The room was clean and lots of towels every day. The restaurant was not only open but had staff they seemed happy to help customers.

I called a few days before to ask if a specific area of the hotel was available as rooms ?01 to ?03 are in a little corner on their own and that means less footfall passing by your room in the evening and morning. I spoke to Matthew from the reception team and he was amazing. Such a helpful and friendly guy. He took all the details and went and checked which are the room numbers in that corner and explained they would do what they could. I also explained I would be having a package delivered before I arrived. Again this wasn’t any problem for him.

When we arrived Mathhew was in reception and remembered the name and the conversation. Such a friendly genuine welcome and as he’s said he’d arranged a room in that corner.

Later that day i came back to reception to pick up the parcel that had been delivered. Matthew and the tram couldn’t find it so suggested I call the courier company just to double check they hadn’t delivered to to another nearby travelodge. I don’t have a Uk mobile as I don’t live in UK so Matthew said don’t worry use mine. He let me make the call on his phone and carried on helping other customers. He really didn’t have to go that and went out of his way to help.

I really hope that the management at this hotel realise what a great employee they have.

Great to see the hotel fully staffed again and what a big difference it made to the overall experience.

Big thank you to Matthew for all of your help
