The Mitre House Hotel garners praise for its cleanliness and the friendly service provided by its staff, who are often noted for going the extra mile. While the rooms are recognized as comfortable and well-kept, some guests find them to be on the smaller side and slightly outdated. The hotel's location is a highlight, offering easy access to Paddington Station and nearby attractions. Amenities like the hearty breakfast add value, although opinions on the hotel's overall value for money are mixed, with some citing additional costs. The atmosphere is charming, despite the dated decor and unique room configurations.

We stayed here to spend a weekend with friends and our little girl in a triple room. We did some research online for where to stand and the one thing that stood out for this place was the free parking - in LONDON! Amazing, so much cheaper for us as well over a train fair, we just made the low emission costs, stayed away from the congestion charge roads to get in and we made it!!! Be sure to use google maps to avoid the congestion charges areas as well

Pros
Amazing amount of parking
Well situated for Paddington station and restaurants for dinner
The room was small but did what we needed it to do which was a base for getting ready, having breakfast and sleeping.
Bathroom was dated but very clean - be sure to use the bath mat that is supplied to stick to the bottom of the bath
Towels were fluffy and clean
Beds were comfy enough for what we needed
It has a lift which is fab
Travel cot provided for my daughter with a little pillow and duvet :)
Reception staff were friendly and helpful

Cons
The stairwell is very hot/warm when walking around
Breakfast, be aware of a language barrier and you will just be given breakfast without making a choice of what you want, not sure how a vegetarian would feel about bacon being shoved under their nose
We never got offered the cereal at all that was mentioned on the menu
Maybe offer some herbal tea as well?
And something other than orange juice
Porridge was made with milk but it was cold when I asked for it on the second day
Nothing was replenished, we could've done with more tea and toast but the staff were off doing other things most of the time
Update the uniforms, the lady who served us the second day had a t-shirt on that was full of holes!

Dear Dawn, Thank you for your review which was marked "pros and Cons" which was clear and concise. The only thing is some of the cons are quite inconsequential compared to fundamentals in the pros camp. An example is the "cleanliness, location, comfort and friendliness of the staff" added to the free parking, complimentary English breakfast and the lift. Compare these to "the stairwell is warm when walking around" "Not being offered cereal (even though this is on the menu) "something other than orange juice" etc. We are grateful for your input and for taking the time to assess us.

The location cannot be beat - a 5-minute walk away from major tube lines for easy transportation across London. Sussex Gardens is a beautiful and quiet area that made for a nice stay that also felt safe at night.
The staff at the hotel were lovely and nice to chat with and thought of the little things, like offering a coffee to go for an early morning departure.
The room was small and the windows had no view (brick walls on each side) although the airflow into the room was good. The beds were uncomfortable for sleeping and the bathroom shower/tub was difficult to manoeuver. Overall, the hotel is outdated and needs a facelift, and may be overpriced, but it's fine for those travelers who won't spend a lot of time in their hotel room and want a central location.

Dear Elenmary39, Thank you for your review which mentioned the great location and the lovely staff. Your assertion that we are over-priced needs some clarification. These days a tariff list is rarely published because like airlines and the invention of real time bookings prices fluctuate depending on supply and demand. Consequently, Last minute bookings can be exceedingly expensive if the demand is high and the supply limited. Your view that we are old fashioned (and you will not be the first to say that) means that you have not done your homework so stand in the corner with a bucket on your head and say. "I shall choose a hotel that suits my needs before I book!

We stayed for 4 nights at the Mitra. Our room was small but big enough for the 3 of us. It was clean and quiet if quite dated. The staff was nice and for the price and location I would totally stay here again. The breakfast was best on the weekend when we were given a voucher to use at a nearby cafe. They provided a full English breakfast (or what ever version of that you wanted. Our daughter only wanted eggs and toast). But the other two days the breakfast was just downstairs in the hotel and was not impressive. Bun, butter, Jam, apple and yogurt. It was fine but really I would have been fine skipping it (which my daughter and husband did one day).

The location is great with being a short walk to Paddington station/tube lines, Hyde park and several museums nearby.

I actually stayed there before March 2019 but that does not diminish my bad memories from when I was there: the manager (a man) was completely rude towards me without absolutely no reason, for instance (just one of many situations absurdly awkward and uncalled for) when I asked if they had a room available he replied yes and he just stared at me and said with and angry voice AND??? as if I was there just walking by asking for hotels and not really interested to stay.

Another: when handling the keys he just liked to throw it on the table for me to pick that up and when I was returning them before leaving the building for the day, it was as if he was doing ME a favour to accept them. Too bad that I had this experience as most of the other staff tried to be friendly and helpful at the reception.

Although the cleaning staff or maintenance just entered the room regardless if you were there or not (naked? in the toilet? no problem to invade your bedroom with no warning). Never came back or will after re-visiting London 12 times. What a shame, for you.

Dear W1418BAtraveller, Thank you for your review which describes your unfortunate experience prior to march 2019. We apologise for the behaviour of our receptionist and for the intrusion by our staff that entered your room at inopportune moments. According to previous reviews our staff performance is considered okay so we were dismayed to see your experience was not at all satisfactory. As your stay with us was so long ago it was difficult to fully investigate your stay with members of staff, however I did take a look at your other reviews posted on TripAdvisor and detected a common theme that could be interpreted as some kind of persecution complex. Once again we are sorry your stay with us was not to your liking but why did it take you a full year to submit your review?

After seeing the prices of many London hotels and how inexpensive Mitre House was by comparison, I did not have high expectations, but I was completely blown away! We arrived several hours before check in on Boxing Day hoping that maybe the staff would hold our luggage so we could start exploring the city immediately. To my shock, they were kind enough to let us into our room early with no extra charge. The double twin room was very small, but there was a cupboard to store luggage and a vanity area with more storage, making the space perfectly adequate. The in-room tea and coffee was also a nice touch and everything was immaculately clean (and I say that as somewhat of a germaphobe). The breakfast was delicious and the portions were generous. I couldn’t believe that it was included! The entire staff, from front desk to breakfast to housekeeping, were friendly and helpful. Lastly, the location was great! Being close to 2 tube stations, several bus routes, and easy access to Heathrow, getting where we wanted to go was no problem. Most importantly, the area felt very safe, even at night. I am so glad we chose Mitre House for our stay in London and will be happy to return on my next trip to the city.

We just left after 8 days at the Mitre house hotel!
What a wonderful stay!! We stayed in the family room, 2 adults and 3 kids
We had 2 rooms, one separate room for bathtub/shower and one for the toilet so nobody is fighting for the bathroom, every room had a sink and a tv
The family room had a extra door outside that you can lock if you want to leave both doors of the rooms open as I did. The hotel felt extremely safe, is clean, extra pillows, extra blankets were already in the closet. The breakfast is wonderful and the Ladies who bring you the food are very fast and accommodating. English breakfast, toast, cereal, porridge, juice, coffee, hot chocolate you can order as much as you want. The rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable
The location is perfect, 2 min walking from Paddington station, and plenty of restaurants, stores for snacks and souvenirs for all your necessities, mc donald, laundry , money change, you have everything in the 2 parallel streets that take you to the station.

Last but not least Kate let us store our luggage in their lobby room so we could go out for few hours after check out while waiting to go to the airport
This is a wonderful and convenient hotel and our family enjoyed it because it was clean, not noisy, safe, convenient and worked very well for our needs ( breakfast included , close to the tube, clean and in a safe area)

My Family and I stayed at Mitre House Hotel for seven nights at the end of April. We had a interconnecting Family Room, which meant that our 18 year old daughter had her own room, and we shared a bathroom. The rooms were simple, but immaculately clean. The hotel staff were welcoming and efficient and the location of the hotel is amazing. There are so many pubs, restaurants and stores to choose from, and Paddington station is about a 3 minute walk. Our room was incredibly quiet, which we very much appreciated. The pillows were also great. My only complaint is that the bed itself wasn't great. It was obviously older and there was some kind of bend or something in it, which made it somewhat difficult to get comfortable. It wasn't so bad that we didn't manage it. Breakfast at the hotel is yogurt, warm croissant and coffee. We only did that once because the dining room just felt too crowded for us to be comfortable. We did the full English breakfast at the restaurant down the street, which we did not enjoy at all. The service was rushed - so much so that while the server was trying to carry two cups of coffee by their handles - it was spilled on me and all over the table. Breakfast was not warm and we didn't have cutlery for quite awhile after our food arrived, and we never did get the juice that was offered to us, or the glass of water we asked for. Perhaps it was just a busy Sunday. If you are looking for a centrally located hotel for a moderate price, this will be just perfect for you.

We have just returned from a weekend away in London and it was our first time staying at mitre house, we were looking for something in a good central location that wasn’t too pricey! Mitre house really made us feel comfortable and couldn’t do enough whilst making a fuss of our two year old.

Mike and Kate were especially very welcoming and it made such a difference to our stay. We unfortunately ended up with a flat tyre that he noticed before we set off and was on hand to help us solve the problem!

Rooms were decent, and clean also. Can’t recommend this place enough if you are looking for a family friendly, budget hotel with excellent location, few minutes walk from Kensington gardens!

I would give this 5 stars if they had air conditioning. We did not need it for our stay but in the summer it would be nice. We had 2 rooms for 10 days the beginning of March. Our granddaughters were in the room right next to us. The rooms were very comfortable and clean. We had a bathtub and really enjoyed that. The front desk was very helpful and gave some wonderful advice. This was not our first trip to London but they still had some helpful tips for us. I tried to see what people had complained about and could only say that they lost out enjoying a wonderful visit. When we arrived a little early both rooms were ready. To enter the the hotel the front desk has to buzz you in. I really liked this. The rooms had keys not the cards. I dislike the cards because they are always messing up. Yes you turn in the key when you leave and they give it back when you return. I like not worrying about losing my room key. The breakfast was very nice. The days at the hotel were continental. Due to COVID they brought you the food to your table. I asked for cereal one time and they brought it to me every time we went down. The weekends we went to a local restaurant for a full English breakfast that was paid by the hotel. The restaurant was wonderful and the food was delicious. Honestly if you wanted something you just needed to ask for it. Wi-Fi was fast. Location was quiet and close to 2 tube stations and Hyde Park. Our rooms were always cleaned while we was out during the day. We could not ask for a better hotel and we plan on returning.

Dear April, Thank you for writing the best review I have read in a long time. Having stayed with us for 10 days you are supremely qualified to give us your views. We have always been a moderately priced hotel in a location known for budget hotels. We find that for the few weeks that it gets really hot we supply fans. Guests are admitted through the front door by the receptionists that are on duty 24/7 and are asked to leave their room keys at reception. This is an old fashioned procedure that ensures a close relationship between staff and guests which aids security. Although we are old fashioned we have a designated lease line that gives us fast reliable WiFi to bring us into the modern age. Our location is between 2 underground stations ( Paddington and Lancaster Gate) and also a stone's throw from Hyde Park. The Heathrow Express gives a 15 minute train ride to Heathrow and leaves from Paddington Station every 15 minutes. We will always welcome you and wish you all the joys of spring.

Staff friendly and helpful. The room was small but well appointed and quiet. Shower is in a half enclosure which means an unavoidable puddle on the floor and no bath mat provided so you'll have to throw down a towel. The room was straightened in our absence during the day.
The hotel gives vouchers for breakfast at a busy cafe around the corner. There are as many tables crowded into the room as they could fit. The hassled staff there plunk a plate down with two eggs staring at you, oozing beans, a token piece of bacon and thin, white bread toast like people used to eat it 1965. If you want a bit of jam, you'll have to pay for it. There's often a line of people waiting for you to vacate the table.
The breakfast is not at all a pleasant start to your day and a hotel as well run as Mitre house should make other arrangements.

Depends on when you're going really. Apparently there is more space at weekends and we certainly had no problem parking all weekend, even leaving the car for a few hours after we had booked out. Booking out is at 11 so theoretically people should move their vehicles then but there were three or four work vans parked all weekend when we were there. It's pot luck really but a lot of the visitors are from other countries so probably travel by train and don't have vehicles to park.
