A discreet, Georgian townhouse located just off the Kings Road, Sydney House Chelsea offers understated, contemporary style in a vibrant neighbourhood. Its intimate atmosphere, typical of a bijou Chelsea pied-à-terre, is finished with a fresh, bright and modern aesthetic, and the hotel is favoured by many as an invaluable London bolt hole. Built in 1829 as two townhouses, the Grade II listed buildings were converted from private residences into a hotel in the 1980’s. As the tallest building on the street, taking prominence over its neighbours, it was named Sydney House. Andrew and Christina Brownsword bought Sydney House Chelsea in 2001. It became the second hotel in their collection, seven years after the purchase of The Bath Priory.

Sydney House Chelsea is frequently lauded for its prime location, ideal for guests eager to explore London's offerings and its proximity to the South Kensington Tube Station. The hotel's staff garners acclaim for their friendliness and helpfulness, although some guests have noted service inconsistencies. While the rooms are celebrated for their cleanliness and modern functionality, their modest size and sporadic maintenance issues are occasional drawbacks. Nonetheless, the tranquil atmosphere, complete with comfortable beds and high-quality amenities, often makes for a relaxing stay, with many finding the hotel to be a good value.

Travelled down to London for a hospital procedure at the Royal Brompton which is a 5 minute walk from the hotel
Staff are very attentive and friendly willing to go the extra mile to make your stay a good one.
We stayed in room 23 on the second floor which we found to be very clean and comfortable the double glazing keep the noise to a minimum so much so that you wouldn’t believe you were staying in London.
In order to have a shower you have to climb into the bath unfortunately there are no handles to help which I would recommend be installed.
Breakfast is provided in the basement restaurant evening meals are only provided in the bedroom via room service
Due to me being ill we stayed in the hotel and ordered an evening meal which we found to be hit and miss, lamb shank with mashed potatoes & Parsnips unfortunately no potatoes or Parsnips just lamb shank and a bit of salad (tomato & Spinach) chips were provided after we asked for them. Couldn’t fault the quality and taste of the food it just wasn’t what was on the menu
Overall a great little hotel with plenty to offer

My wife and I wanted to spend one night in Chelsea and saw the website for Sydney House. It did not disappoint.
We had a very luxurious room at the back of the hotel and found very little traffic noise which was great. There was a huge and amazingly comfortable bed. The decor was tasteful and looked freshly decorated. A lovely bathroom. It really exceeded our expectations.
We had a lovely breakfast next day with the best Eggs Benedict I'd ever had.
The staff were lovely and really helpful and I recommend this place very highly indeed.

Great location, 5 mins from South Kensington Tube Station. The staff were very welcoming and allowed us to leave our bags at the hotel prior to our room being ready. We were also able to leave our bags at the hotel after check out, which was really helpful.

It's a great location to explore Chelsea and the museums nearby. Also ideal for Heathrow as on the Jubilee line. The Elizabeth Line to Paddington (15 mins costing £25pp) is also very convenient, plus only 4-5 stops on the circle line.

There are Nespresso machines in the rooms plus a variety of tea flavours. You have to ask for fresh milk from reception.

Breakfast was good, salted real butter and yummy sour dough toast with lots of other healthy and tasty options.

Close to lots of restaurants on the Fulham Road and the Old Brompton Road. Great for people watching !

Would recommend as Chelsea is a great location and we felt very welcomed in the hotel

Little gem of a place here, lovely and quiet to relax in after all the sightseeing or shopping the busy surrounding area has to offer. Just 5 minutes walk from South Kensington Tube Station, it is the perfect location for all that west and central London has to offer. My adult son and I arrived about 11 am with check-in not until 2 pm. The very welcoming General Manager Ryda and receptionist Haneen had no issue whatsoever in securing our luggage in the office while we enjoyed sightseeing. The main purpose of our trip was to see the Chelsea vs Man Utd Premier League match at Stamford Bridge ( a mere 20 minute walk away or alternatively 4 stops on the tube). So on check-in we opted to relax in our room. The decor is simple, neutral yet relaxing. The sea green in the en suite was a lovely touch and the shower was fantastic, hot and soothing after the sightseeing. Breakfast was fresh, simple and nourishing with plenty of options. All staff were very respectful, warm, friendly, homely and prepared to help out any way they could. After check-out our luggage was again looked after free of charge. When we returned about 6.30 pm to collect we were welcome to rest ourselves in the front foyer while charging our phones before our flight back to Dublin. Accommodation for our next trip to Chelsea sorted. Thanks a mill folks.

We have visited twice before and found that the hotel has lost its appeal and its level of service. There was an extraordinary problem at the start of our visit - a ruptured pipe caused the hotel to close down for one night. They helpfully relocated us to another hotel which was an awful spot, but we were pleased to have somewhere for the night. To our surprise, the Sydney House had us pay the full cost of that night despite extraordinary inconvenience. Housekeeping failed to show up one day of our stay - we returned to our room around 4 pm and it was not cleaned. Our booking process was also a nightmare - they simply could not get our reservation right even though we were working via email and all of the details kept being repeated. We will not return to this hotel, which we have enjoyed in the past, Despite location and its attractive website and friendly front desk staff, this hotel no longer merits a stay given the options in London. Sorry to say, but there are many better places for your time and money.

Just arrived home from a 3 night stay at the Sydney House Hotel in Chelsea. From the moment we arrived we felt completely safe. The hotel was spotlass and could not fault it. Beautiful and quiet place to stay in the centre of London. We were quite worried about staying in London but as our daughter was having an operation at The Royal Marsden 2 minutes away we did not have a choice but as I said before it was spotlessly clean and felt safe staying here. The Manager was so nice and when we ordererd food the first evening he did not charge as he said we were their first customers since covid. We thought that was such a lovely gesture it made our break. We would not hesitate to stay here again when we are down in this part of the country again.
Thank you again for a great stay in your beautiful hotel.

A great value in an excellent location next to great restaurants, pubs, and some of the best museums in London—and just a few short Tube stops away from a lot of the touristy spots if you want to visit those, or avoid them. The rooms are not large but are comfortable and way more pleasant than the more modern budget hotels that have proliferated in London and beyond. The staff is incredibly kind and helpful, and the rooms are clean and quiet.

Having returned numerous times to this hotel, the staff is absolutely delightful. Alongside this, the location is perfect for exploring Chelsea, museums and accessing other parts of London due to the hotel’s proximity to South Kensington underground station. Certain areas of the hotel could do with a fresh coat of paint and a new carpet on the stairs would enhance its overall appearance. Enjoy visiting hotels with hardwood flooring and this is one not to be missed, bedding and towels are of an high quality as are the products in the bathroom. Overall, will definitely return. Sincere thanks to Haneen and the team who dealt admirably and professionally with a boiler breakdown. Nothing was too much trouble from this lovely team.

Just back from a fantastic 3 night stay and what a gorgeous hotel. The staff are friendly, attentive and super helpful, the hotel is clean and from a Covid perspective, we felt very safe. We were there for our wedding and the location of the hotel was perfect with close proximity to the Register Office, florist and dining options, plus the shops on Kings Road. We stayed in The Room at the Top, and what a fabulous room it is with its secluded and private roof terrace - thoroughly recommend breakfast on the terrace overlooking London. Special thanks to Scott for being so friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Thoroughly recommended.

Staff was extremely friendly. Yet, don't base yourself on the pictures online. Booked what was meant to be a ''junior suite'' yet was extremely dissapointed in the accomodation itself. It was old, badly painted, and deffenately not worth the price/quality room standard.
