This is clearly a quality hotel. From the decor to the comfort of the rooms to the attentiveness of the staff, yet I felt we had great value for money at a very reasonable price for a London hotel in a very central location. The staff were outstanding without exception. As I was travelling with a wheelchair user, sometimes we can be made to feel a nuisance, but not at the Royal Horseguards. We were treated with the utmost respect and courtesy, even though a large ramp had to be assembled each time we wanted to go out, we didn't feel as if this was putting anyone out. The accessible bedroom was outstanding. Lots of room around the queensized bed and clear wheelchair travel without furniture clutter. Well done Royal Horseguards for having a fully accessible, stylish wet room with a quality shower seat. It isn't rocket science but often so badly overlooked! Bed very comfortable, a little noisy in the night but this was because the hotel had a number of teenage guests staying for London Fashion Week. This didnt spoil our stay as the disruption was minimal. Highly reccomend this hotel, particularly for guests with mobiliy and access problems. We would definitely stay again

We enjoyed a very civilized afternoon tea here whilst on a Christmas shopping weekend in mid December. The hotel is very conveniently placed within easy walking distance of The Strand, Covent Garden etc.. and exudes old world charm with a modern touch.
Being a busy time of year we had taken the precaution of pre booking but whilst pleasantly buzzing the lounge area had plenty of seating and at no point were we made to feel rushed. The pricing of the various afternoon teas on offer was a little confusing with the 'celebration' afternoon tea working out cheaper than the standard offering once one had added a glass of fizz. The waitress was lovely, very friendly and helpful without being 'over familiar'.
My one criticism which actually applies to most set afternoon teas and is certainly not confined to The Royal Horseguards is that if anything there was too much emphasis on the sweet side. A few more sandwiches and less cake would have made the experience more to our taste but each to their own! (There is in fact a savoury afternoon tea on offer but this has to be ordered in advance).
The lounge area in which tea is served provided an oasis of chintzy calm! Will definitely return!

We stayed at the Royal Horseguards Hotel 11-16 March 2020. We received royal treatment for our entire stay. I had mentioned it was in celebration of our anniversary when booking. The hotel actually sent us a message before arriving that they would welcome us and would try and accommodate our requests. We've traveled to London 15 times but never stayed in this area. The location of the hotel is great. It's only a minute walk across the street from Embankment Station. It's with a beautiful setting with Whitehall Gardens on one side across from the river and the London Eye. The London Eye was celebrating their anniversary and was beautifully lit at night. The lobby and all areas of the hotel was beautiful with a fire in the fireplace. The welcoming and checkin from the staff at reception, Georgia, was friendly and efficient. During our stay the doorman, concierge, housekeeping and reception staff were all helpful and friendly. We were given an upgrade of a room with views of the London Eye and River and all in the minifridge was complimentary. The room was a comfortable size, nicely decorated and had a desk and dresser, large TV, coffee and tea service and a large closet and room safe. The bathroom was a large size with heated floors and robes and slippers provided. The area was quiet at night and the bed was very comfortable. Housekeeping was excellent and even came around in the evening when we were out and provided turn down service with chocolates and bottled water left. The day before we were to checkout the staff left a beautiful chocolate cake and happy anniversary written on a slate plate. We left our bags at checkout time for our later flight and on collecting them, the concierge helped us with taking them out. I can't imagine any better service than this hotel and we would absolutely stay here on the next visit to London. Thanks to all the staff for a very special stay.

We were relocated to The Royal Horseguards as Guoman could not honour our original booking at the Tower Hotel, which was still closed due to the Covid Crisis. We were pleased to be allocated a garden view room, and the view over the gardens and the Thames was very welcome in the centre of London.

The good news is that the location of the hotel is excellent for anywhere you might want to reach in the West End, the communal areas are sumptuous and the staff were charming and helpful without exception. Our disappointments concerned our room.

The room did have some welcome 5* touches (underfloor heating in the shower room - there was no bath - and thick towelling bathrobes) but it was very small, verging on poky. There were two chairs, one at a desk, but no table to sit around and no room to put one if both chairs were in use. The bed also seemed very small. The measurements on the hotel website suggested a king size bed (though the room itself was a double, not a king) but it certainly didn’t feel like a king size. It could barely fit two adults and actually felt smaller than a standard double. In addition the bed was on highly mobile castors and would shoot across the room if one sat on it, or leaned back on a pillow against the headboard.

The WiFi was feeble as was the broadband (neither YouTube nor iPlayer worked on the television), there were plenty of plugs but no charging sockets, there was an iPod dock but it didn’t work, the heated towel rail is over the toilet so it is impossible to place the higher towel on the rail, there were very few toiletries, coffee pods and so on (though the front desk happily replenished them when we asked, which we had to do twice over only two days), although the toiletries were upmarket the toilet roll was very poor quality, and the shower leaked.

The Royal Horseguards is significantly more expensive than the Tower (unless your booking gets transferred as ours was) but even if they were the same rate I would recommend The Tower over the Royal Horseguards to anyone looking for a break in London every time.

Great stay in a great location, rooms are small but comfortable and the bathroom was looking a bit old but clean enough. We also had a magnificent river view and could see the London eye through the leafless winter trees, largely unrivalled by other hotels. Overall for the price it was good value

We got a Travelzoo deal in 2020 then had to wait until July 1021 to avail of it. We got upgraded on arrival to a deluxe bedroom. We found the hotel lovely, staff helpful and polite. We found our room a good size with large TV with You Tube and BBC Iplayer and Itv Hub all in the menu. You are able to add a firestick if you need to. The fridge was working and chilled our water, you get two glass still bottles of water per day. There is a coffee maker and a kettle with various teas also biscuits. The bathroom is lovely, a great shower and very deep bath. The bed was lovely and soft and we heard very little noise from outside our 5th floor room. The lifts were never full going for breakfast and we never had to wait for an 8am breakfast. The breakfast is picked from a menu. I had lovely yoghurt berries and granola. Tea/coffee plenty of breads and a fruit juice. Bacon egg and full English also available. There is a Tesco Express at Westminster Tube Station about a 10 minute walk away so a bottle of wine or beer can be got here to save a penny or two. I loved the hotel. Clean welcoming and that special old fashioned English class.

This hotel is ideally place in heart of central London within walking distance of Covent Garden and minutes from Embankment. Staff are very helpful & friendly and the room was spotless clean although it did smell musky (windows don't open) and it was very small, okay if you just need to crash out at the end of the evening. Pretty sure the bed was a 4ft double which is unusual for a hotel. The afternoon tea at £39 each is not good value for money, 4 finger sandwiches, 2 tiny scones and 4 miniature cakes each with a cup of tea no top ups, the bar has extortionate prices, 2 G&Ts & 1 beer £40.

I visited this hotel for 3 nights with my mother as a special trip to London together. The main attraction being location as we had several theater reservations and being over the road from the kitkat club was very convenient but also wanting to treat ourselves a little. The online communication from booking to arrival was excellent with clear information and quick replies received.

We visited from Easter Sunday so left some chocolates for the reception staff as I always feel for hospitality working on special days, and received an excellent welcome. The lobby and external approach is impressive bu very warm and welcoming and again information provided helpful especially to look in all the drawers for wa making facilities etc.

We stayed in a superior twin (room 508). The view looked out onto Whitehall, and although it has wonderfully large windows, be aware these cannot be opened fully so you may need to play around with the air con or heating to get your required room temp. Beds very comfy with plenty of bedding provided. Bathroom really nice size with both bath and spare shower, nice products, and heated towel rail and flooring l. Mini bar contents were complimentary and included water, coke and green and black chocolate which were topped up every da as were tea, coffee and nespresso tablets. Great big bath robes and slippers also provided. Comfy seats and table and large desk completed a really nice sized rooms.

The hotel itself seemed quite quiet and we were never disturbed during the evening by neighboirs.

Breakfast was included and we really enjoyed it each morning, cooked breakfast included well cooked eggs, hash browns Cumberland sausages, beans, mushrooms, tomatoes, bacon plus continental breakfast with lovely smoked salmon, plenty of cereal choices and juices, and pastries, all great for setting us up for the day. The breakfast staff were fantastic, very professional, warm and friendly, and able to provide different types of coffee etc. Trays of food regularly topped up with piping hot contents.

Reception helped us with a toothbrush kit and a pair of scissors when needed. Housekeeping did a great job, theres a little button to show if you want your bed made up each day and I liked that on the day the weather turned colder they added a blanket.

We used the Equus bar to end our evenings and must recommend their bespoke cocktail the Churchill, strong but really tasty, felt I needed a cigar with it! Comfy seating and again very friendly bar person.

I was overall very impressed with our stay and will certainly be visiting again, hopefully with my husband next time to try a river view room.

I found Royal Horseguards to be an oasis of calm. My friend and I were staying for a couple of nights as we were going to the opera and to an exhibition.
From the moment we entered the building we felt comfortable and safe. We were offered help with baggage and finding our room. Hosts are genuinely helpful and courteous without being obtrusive.
Our room was clean and comfy with plenty of refreshments. We enjoyed our meals in the restaurant. The breakfast buffet was ample. We had room service supper one evening and though it was very late, the food was fresh and tasty and the service exceptional.
The public areas of the hotel are also clean and well cared for, with fresh flowers and attractive artwork and ornaments. We appreciated sitting by the cosy fire in the foyer after a lot of walking in the winter weather.
The hotel is a stone's throw from Trafalgar Square, and could not be more handy for the galleries and theatres.
In my opinion the Royal Horseguards is a great hotel.

I booked a special afternoon tea to celebrate 3 friends birthdays this year using a Wowcher I purchased. I specifically selected this location based on the the location and advert showing the River Thames. On arrival we were seated in the foyer close to the restaurant and when I advised we needed a window seat with a view of the River Thames I was advised it wasn't possible. The area we were placed had no external view, although it was nicely presented and afternoon tea was acceptable.

I queried with the manager how the advert could have been so misleading and was advised to take it up with Wowcher who I had purchased it through. I immediately contacted Wowcher later that day and eventually received an email advising they'd passed my complaint to the hotel. Again I had to chase for a response and was finally advised there was nothing they can say as they consider the advert was not misleading.

Therefore, if you are looking to book afternoon tea in a restaurant, with a view, do not chose this venue.

Hello, thank you for taking time out of your day to review your recent visit. I am very sorry that you found the information about the view from the restaurant misleading, this was never our intention, I will follow this up with our marketing department. We are indeed located next to Thames and it is our River View Rooms and our events space that have the views over the Thames as they are located above the ground floor where the restaurant is. I do hope you still enjoyed catching up with your friends and celebrating her birthday. Thank you again for bringing this to our attention. Kindest regards Theresa Collins Hotel Manager
