DUKES London garners praise for its homely yet elegant atmosphere and prime location, making it easily accessible to city attractions. While the staff receives accolades for their professionalism and the afternoon tea is a highlight, guests warn that the room rates and additional costs may outweigh the perceived value. Although the rooms are recognized for their charm and cleanliness, some travelers note the need for updates and report issues with air conditioning and noise.

As someone whose budget normally stretches to a Premier Inn, I decided to push the boat out for my wife’s 40th birthday weekend and see how the other half lives.

From the first phone call when I booked, it’s just a completely different level of service. Polite, professional yet friendly seem to be the core values here.

I emailed Ruel, the concierge, some ideas for a few little extras to make the experience even more special for my wife and the effort he made really made the difference. It was lovely to actually get to meet him while we were there so I could thank him personally.

The room was very comfortable and spotless (although some TLC on the paintwork is required in a couple of spots). A nice bottle of Prosecco was on ice when we arrived and a lovely complementary birthday dessert had been provided which was a great touch. They’d even created a huge heart shape with rose petals on the bed. It all went down very well.

The only reason this is a four star review and not a five star one is the breakfast service. The breakfast itself was very nice (full English, cereal, fruit, yogurt, tea, pastries etc) but unfortunately the breakfast service was just too disorganised, with a few uncleared tables around and the table we sat at had no cutlery/napkins etc on it. The two people on service didn’t seem to have total control of the situation and we eventually had to flag one of them down to place our order and to ask for cutlery. A couple more staff were eventually roped in to steady the ship and it transpired that there was meant to be a third staff member on that day who was absent. It’s also worth noting that we turned up towards the end of the service.

However that was the only minor blot on an otherwise lovely stay and I’m glad I chose this hotel to spend this month’s mortgage payment on to mark this occasion.

Thank you Dukes, for a rare but much appreciated experience.

Five star service without pretension - we stayed for 3 nights and enjoyed their fantastic breakfast in the elegant GBR every morning. The staff, from the waitstaff and bellman, to the concierge and front desk staff, were true professionals and made us feel very welcome. We lived in London (Richmond) for three years and are familiar with the area - but staying in Mayfair, with St. James Park and Green Park just a few minutes walk away, and so many other great areas within walking distance as well, the location was such a plus. Will definitely stay again next time we visit.

My partner and I stayed at Dukes for a couple of nights and we hosted a small birthday tea party gathering in the drawing room. The staff were so attentive, helpful and personable and went the extra mile with some nice complimentary touches, in order to help me to celebrate his birthday. The food was very nice, as was our room, the bed linen in particular was beautifully laundered, and felt rather luxurious. So, we look forward to another opportunity to return.Dukes please resist any pressure to fill the hotel with flash and gawdy items, like many other London hotels seem to have done-don’t change anything.

Great find, great location; so close to many attractions and (of course) window shopping. But more than that, the Dukes team really cares about the complete customer experience. From the front of house staff to housekeeping, everyone gave 100% to help out, offer advice or simply do their thing with no fuss whatsoever. I will definitely return to the Dukes London, it was a pleasure to stay there.

From the moment we walked up to the reception desk we were pampered and welcomed. Thanks specifically to Alexandra (concierge) our 4 day stay was fabulous. Our room (with a balcony) and large bathroom (with tub) were clean and spacious and well appointed with fluffy robes, slippers, bottled water and anything else we could need was just a phone call away to the front desk. I have been to larger hotels in London but thanks to this St. James neighborhood gem, Dukes is now my favorite. I can't wait to stay there again.

We stayed 3 nights at Dukes Hotel. It is a beautiful and very English boutique hotel in the best location of London. A very good restaurant called GBR at the hotel and a very cosy and popular bar as well. The staff was exceptional and you feel they are your friends when you leave. Great shopping area and a lot of good restaurants just around. We will always come back to Dukes Hotel when in London. Check the hotels own homesite because they have often great offers when directly booking to the hotel. The best hotel experience I have ever had in London🇬🇧🇳🇴👍 Try : www dukeshotel.com

What a lovely hotel. Very homely and welcoming. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. In these strange times of covid the management seem to have got their hygiene and safety measures about right although I’m sure the rooms look richer with their usual soft furnishings.
Breakfast was tasty and we had ours in the conservatory which was bright and airy.
I felt at home so will definitely stay again.

As a 5 star hotel that comes with a 5 star price we were a bit disappointed at the quality of service and some of the amenities during our stay.

The hotel bar itself is wonderful and staff there are great - the martinis are to die for and the bar is the best part of the hotel.

Our room was quite small but pleasant however for the price I would expect a double bed (not two twins stuck together) and the floors were creaky and wonky. This did have a slight charm to it though.

The bathrooms are a bit outdated - our bath emptied itself when full and the taps had rust marks however still decorated nicely just not what you expect at £300 a night in a 5 star place.

Despite all of this I probably would have still given the hotel 4 stars if it wasn’t for some of the hotel staff service. One of the ladies at the front desk could not have been more disparaging at check out and throughout our stay. No smile or hello just stared ( hard to see through a mask but I did not find her welcoming or friendly). We did not feel like we were a welcome guest but that we had done something wrong due to how she treated us. When we went to pay, she refused to let us pay with contactless saying it doesn’t work (we do not know why) but eventually she let us try and the payment went through - utterly bizzarre.

Breakfast is pricey for what you get and the food is decent but in an almost empty restaurant we had to ask to order food and were not offered any water.

For what you pay I expected a much more welcoming service and staff to be a bit more on the ball. It was a once in a life time trip and I expected a once in a life time experience but I will only be returning for a drink in the bar and not an overnight stay as I reckon you can get more for your money at other hotels in the area.

We have just returned from another 2 night stay at Dukes. We are regular visitors and hope this continues for many years to come. Consistency is key in delivering a world class experience and Dukes have mastered how to do it, but the biggest factor in this hotels success is all of the staff who are so lovely, where nothing is too much trouble. A couple of good examples for us was Lucica who orchestrated our stay prioe to our visit whilst being on holiday, then there was Ruel who was so helpful in arranging a chauffeur car for us for our trip to the Wimbledon Tennis.
The guest rooms are in keeping with the traditions of the hotel and that should never change. The dining experience at GBR is excellent, although on our most recent stay we only visited each morning to sample the excellent cooked breakfast. Then there is the World Famous Dukes Bar, which carries on the traditions in a lovely warm atmosphere, but you'll need to reserve a table at weekends, so don't assume that as a guest you can just turn up.
We have already booked our return in September for another 3 night stay. I notice that the Dukes room rate is now heavily discounted on Secret Escapes and although we will not now change our booking, anyone reading this review should sample this hotel experience for themselves at least once and there is no better time to do it!

Went here for afternoon tea, very luxurious and accommodating for dietary needs aswell. Very lovely staff and quintessentially British afternoon tea, with gorgeous jubilee additions too, it was absolutely deliciously stunning. The hotel is so grand and off the main track which was nice, away from the hustle and bustle. The only thing I would advise is if they ask if you want water, be brave and ask for tap water. Unless you of course want bottled water that is. We didn't, but we felt silly asking for tap water and ended up paying £12 for a bottle of still water. The table opposite asked for tap and they were more than happy to serve it. Just a small but hopefully helpful tip. A wonderful place to visit! Highly recommended

Not sure as not up on HP locations, but this hotel is in a beautiful location,so lovely to walk to and down a quiet little street if you use the Citymapper app it’s free and spot on for getting anywhere by tube taxi trains and what we really used the walk feature, use it when you arrive in London

You would have to contact Dukes about that, it didn’t occur to me! We arranged a private driver through JustAirports( see my review) did not have to prepay, driver was excellent approx £60 before tip, so nice to just walk through arrivals and have driver waiting for you
