British craftsmanship, refined luxury and an Art Deco spirit collide at this prestigious five-star hotel in the heart of London. Occupying a prime Mayfair position, the West End, designer-lined Bond Street and Buckingham Palace are all just a short meander away. The Athenaeum itself exudes contemporary charm. Spacious rooms and suites cater to all of life’s luxuries, with views over verdant Green Park or character-filled Mayfair. Residences – the hotel’s luxurious serviced apartments – are found inside the adjoining Victorian red-brick buildings. These polished spaces offer a private entrance, separate bedroom and living areas, 24-hour in-room dining, plus full access to the hotel’s facilities. Dining comes courtesy of the hotel’s restaurant, 116 at The Athenaeum, with menus championing the very best British produce. The royally-inspired afternoon tea has become something of a London tradition, served with artisan tea, picture-perfect pastries and an array of sweet and savoury treats. Across the lobby, The Bar at The Athenaeum is a tranquil hideaway, promising cocktails created by an award-winning barman and more than 100 rare and intriguing whiskies. Sumptuous seating areas offer an insider’s look at The Athenaeum’s Living Wall – a vertical garden that covers an entire exterior wall of the hotel, from ground level right through to the top floor. Elsewhere in the hotel, the high-spec gym is accessible 24/7, while the spa has an inviting hot tub and an enticing menu of REN treatments. Guests at The Athenaeum can also gain exclusive access to The View when booking direct – an enviable London spot from which to enjoy a complimentary drink and nibbles in the evening.

There are luxuries you expect in a 5-star hotel and this one ticks all those usual boxes plus having its own personality. Now it has added extras that made our visit, with one of us highly vulnerable to the virus, an absolute pleasure.
When Simon met us at the door, he showed us the automatic hand sanitizer dispenser and temperature gauge. He wiped down all our luggage. Here’s a top tip, when you get in the lift, don’t use the tip of your index finger to press the buttons, use your knuckle. Of course there are gloves available if you want some.
Upstairs our room had a mix of modern technology (10 USB ports!) and old school glamour. I loved the black and white marble bathroom, which reminded me of the Algonquin in NY. It had a modern a magnifying mirror that I’d love to own. The spacious room included a writing desk and a charming bistro table with 2 wide comfortable chairs. Sharon presented us with pastries hot out of the oven so our visit was off to a flying start. We stayed on the 4th July and used room service; it was so convenient that we didn’t visit the restaurant. The hotel has remained open throughout the pandemic for key workers so no wonder the service is so slick.
Something I’ve tended to overlook until now is housekeeping. Rasa and her assistant ensured the usual high standards. As she was so friendly I asked her how much extra cleaning was involved and she told me about the hotel’s ozone machine that they use to sanitize rooms after guests leave. Impressive.
Jim, who is so tall in his top hat, waved us off as we went out for a stroll through Green Park to the nearby monuments and Jorge welcomed us back in.
On the NHS’s 75th birthday we admired the floral display outside Buckingham Palace.
If you want to enjoy a few days of luxury in London, the management and staff at this hotel have put time and care (not to mention state of the art equipment) into ensuring the ’new normal’ is something guests don't need to spend time thinking about; it’s already been sorted.

We stayed at The Athenaeum for four nights during Christmas week, and loved it! It was easy to navigate the city from such a central location, our room was lovely, and everyone who worked there was warm, attentive and helpful. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious. Our room, on the third floor and close to the elevator, was exceptionally quiet, which was fabulous! When I originally made our reservation, I mentioned that we were going to be celebrating my husband's birthday and our anniversary while in London, and when we arrived, there was dessert and a handwritten note from the general manager waiting for us in our room! On Christmas Day, we received a box full of goodies that I assume every guest received, which included chocolate bars, a box of tea, face masks, and more - it was such a nice touch! The Athenaeum is full of lots of nice, personalized touches that set it apart from other hotels, and look forward to staying again, one day!

Stayed at this Hotel 3 nights in February 2020. I had paid for the previous night as we were arriving very early in the morning and I had also requested a room with separate lounge room not all in one. When we arrived at the room it was not what I requested so the gentleman rang and got our requested room. The Reception staff and doormen were very friendly and helpful. Also when we went for breakfast our room was cleaned so when we came back all done. The breakfast in the restaurant was very nice and service was good. A short walk to Buckingham Palace through the park. I would stay there again if I was visiting London.

We stayed here over Christmas break 2019 and booked our room through our VISA Platinum luxury resorts program. I have no idea how this hotel would ever qualify for this luxury program. It's a nice hotel in a great area, but certainly not a luxury hotel; there is nothing superior about this hotel AT ALL. Our VISA hotel program offers an early check-in and a room upgrade upon availability. We were not able to check-in to our room until about 1:15 that day and had to grant permission to the maintenance staff to have access to the room later to repair a drainage issue that they had with the washer/dryer in our room. The hoped for room upgrade was also not available apparently due to a leaking roof in the supposed upgraded room. We were assigned to one of the hotel's 1 bedroom suites and for the first 3 days of our stay, we had a vacuum cleaner and a trash bag stationed outside of our room until I asked them to remove it. Additionally, the concierge at this hotel by the name of Alan is a lazy and unhelpful goon. Upon arrival we asked him to help us get tickets to Westminster Abbey (as it was open on Boxing Day) and he went online to some tour group website, plugged in our credit card number, and then handed what he told us were our tickets to the Abbey. Turns out, he had us purchase a voucher that we would need to stand in a 65 minute line in the cold and rain (with our child) in order to get our actual tickets into Westminster Abbey... which we were not going to do. As the concierge of a hotel, he should know that actual advance tickets can only be ordered online from the Westminster Abbey website, but Alan likely doesn't get a kick-back by doing this, thus his idiotic and unhelpful advice. Upon returning to the hotel, I handed his voucher back to him, explained the situation, and told him I wanted a refund. He told me that he would work on it and then he conveniently wasn't on duty for the rest of our stay. I have not yet seen a credit issued on my credit card from Alan. This is just an ok hotel with an ok restaurant in a great location with a useless concierge. We'll never stay there again and we'll let our VISA program know that they need to be pulled from their luxury program.

I had stayed at the Athenaeum before and decided to book again for when my family was visiting as their staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. I ended up joining them myself a week after and ended up staying throughout lockdown with my family. All the staff were always incredibly helpful and kind and even more so during the lockdown and pandemic. The hotel was kept in peak condition and thoroughly sanitised even providing suitable equipment for their guests making everyone feel at ease. In spite of lockdown they managed to provide 5* top notch service.

I would like to specially thank Jorge for making us all feel very welcome, comfortable and well taken care of from even before arrival! Always going the extra mile when he was and even wasn't there to make sure everything was in order. Mina, Kim, Juris, Yasir, Chiara, Andreea (For helping me out outside of working hours!) Jerry and all the staff went above and beyond to make the stay pleasant. With even their higher level executives staying and sharing the work load which definitely made it a nice environment to stay for such a long time. We will definitely stay here every time any of us are in London. Apart from the great staff you also get great park views to wake up to! Many Thanks to all who helped run this excellent establishment. It is nice to see genuine concern and care that goes beyond a pure 'money making' organisation. The Athenaeum provides a high standard in hospitality that other hotels and establishments should strive for!

The hotel was a beautiful place to stay during our stop in London. They were a saving grace allowing key workers to stay during the Covid19 pandemic, we only stopped for one night, but staff were welcoming and friendly, everything was clean and we felt safe. We were still able to eat from the hotel via room service and the food was very pleasant. Thank you.

I cannot say enough good things about The Athenaeum. I’ve used the hotel on several occasions during the Covid-19 lockdown, as a key worker it has been an absolute gem of a find.
Finding suitable accommodation in London especially during the early stages of the lockdown was very difficult, I stumbled upon The Athenaeum and I was surprised to see rooms available for key workers at such a reasonable price.
Despite the budget price the service throughout my stays has been anything but a budget experience.
The various staff members I have encountered or spoken with could not be more helpful on every occasion. The staff are a compliment to the hotel.
The hotel has taken the steps necessary to guard guests and staff from Covid-19 whilst still maintaining their high standards.
I will certainly be returning to use the hotel when I am in London for private stays and life returns to ‘normal’.
Thank you very much to the management and staff, you have been fantastic!

The Athenaeum Hotel did a wonderful thing during the Covid19 Crisis. They allowed key workers to stay at their magnificent hotel at a reduced rate. Instead of the £300 a night, it was discounted to £75. After a long day at work, I took advantage of this during the crisis as a key worker.

The hotel was exceptional. The bed was soft and luxurious including amazing pillows. The rooms were quiet and very clean. The shower was impressive.

The location is very central and near to all the usual tourist attractions however they were understandably closed during my visit.

Jorge from the hotel did a great job in welcoming us and making our stay all that more memorable.

I was thoroughly impressed by the hotel and am looking forward to my next visit!!!

We decided to treat ourselves to a visit to the newly re-opened British Museum & National Gallery and do it in style with a 2 night stay in a central 5 star hotel. It was everything we hoped for from the moment we arrived. Charming staff for whom nothing was too much trouble, comfortable room, excellent location. Despite being right on Piccadilly, our 2nd floor room was quiet; everything was clean & well-appointed, bed comfortable, silent efficient air-con.

Restaurant manager Alam was an excellent host. He explained that they were operating a lockdown crew system: 2 crews each doing a week during which they isolated in the hotel. That this was a skeleton crew was evident in the dining service being perhaps a little slower than you might expect, but the food was delicious.

Breakfast was faultless both days. We only dined in one night: my chicken escalope with squash was a little unadventurous, but my wife's salmon was declared perfectly cooked and the risotto superb. Apple and almond galette was excellent.

The top floor residents lounge is a quiet spot to sit & relax, with views across the treetops of Green Park to Buckingham Palace, the London Eye and the skyscrapers of the city. Covid restrictions meant we couldn't try the spa.

If we want to return for a London weekend, we would not hesitate to rebook here.

Great service. Fantastic room provided a well needed sleep. Really great what this hotel is doing for key workers. I will be recommending to friends and colleges alike. It was a shame I couldn't check out the other amenities as it all looked lovely. After ordering from one of the many local delivery services in the area I had a great sleep followed by a fantastic shower the next morning to set me up for the day. Keep up the good work guys.
