The Shankly Hotel garners mixed feedback from its guests. Many revel in its prime location, which offers convenient access to nearby attractions and dining. However, reviews frequently point out a disparity between the cost and the quality of stay, citing overpricing and subpar dining experiences. While some guests praise the cleanliness of rooms and enjoy amenities like jacuzzi baths, others are disappointed with maintenance issues and dated decor. The atmosphere is described as lively, yet the noise levels and lack of upkeep leave several travelers with reservations about returning.

I just want to start off by literally thanking every staff member in the Shankly Hotel, they literally couldn’t do enough for you. An extra special thank you to Damian Gilvary and Faye Calvey - from even before the hen do, he/she kept in touch and always making sure everything was okay!

If there was Anything that needed doing in the room, I’d drop Damian a text and it would be sorted within the hour.

From the concierge service to the breakfast staff - I cannot begin to tell you how incredible they all were and as my sister is getting married in 30 James Street it gives me satisfaction that it’s going to be an amazing day also.

The room we stayed on was the Laurent Pierre room which can sleep up to 24 people ( 12 individual pods with their own wet room / toilet ) with the massive bath tub in the middle. Now with there being all different ages ranges within our group I thought noise and light may of been an issue but once you close the curtains on your pod... you could hardly hear anything and blocks out all the light. The wet rooms have standard water fall shower, sink and toilet - just what’s needed. In the pods themselves you have a tv above your bed a large mirror and a wardrobe for your clothes. Bed was super comfy too and they supply towels and the usual. There was also a hairdryer, iron and ironing board in the room.

It has a Bluetooth sound system that you can hook your phone up to which was also amazing and a little kitchenette area for drinks and food with a kettle and sink.

It was an absolutely incredible stay but I have to give credit to the staff at the Shankly for making it even better. Kudos to you all!! Amazing team.

Thank you so much again!!! Would recommend a million times

Visited the Shankly Hotel for the first time at the weekend. Parking is very easy beneath the hotel and charges £15 for 24 hours. On entering the hotel you are immediately wowed by the incredible decor. The staff are all lovely and check in was easy. However, our room 409 which was the room we had been given wasn’t ready on arrival despite us arriving 20mins after check in. We were allocated another room 233. On entering the room our bottle of fizz wasn’t ready on arrival and we had to call down to reception from our mobiles as there was no phone in the room to ask for it to be brought to us. The room itself did have lovely decor and a nice jacuzzi bath. The tv kept cutting out after a few seconds, WiFi was inaccessible and there was no natural light within the room as there was a small frosted window in the corner of the room which we were unable to open. Overall, the experience was nice, but the room we were originally allocated was much better as seen on my booking. I was hoping to return for my birthday with the girls in June, but slightly apprehensive on the room situation.

We booked the Shankly for a “staycation” due to the current status of the world. I am so glad that we did. I was a little apprehensive due to COVID but the staff could not be more accommodating. There are plenty of hand gel stations for use, mask advisories and table service to keep things safe.

We booked room 101, a 5 person suite as this room had a seating area so that we could continue drinks in the room without having to sit on the bed. The rooms are enormous and have a luxury feel to them. The beds are large and comfortable, mattresses could do with changing as there are “dips” in the bed, they are however clean. Our room had a double spa bath which was also a great selling point for us. We was also offered a free upgrade and had a chilled bottle of fizz waiting on our arrival and complimentary breakfast, a touch which we are very grateful for!

The hotel is very popular and therefore very busy at most times during the day. We did request fresh towels during our stay, however they did not arrive and we could not get through to the reception desk to follow this up. This didn’t affect our stay in the slightest.

The weather took a bit of a turn for us during our stay and so we opted to eat at the Bastion Restaurant in the hotel for one of the nights- I am SO glad that we did! The food was so amazing and we were also thrilled that we qualified for the eat out scheme, we would have most definitely paid full price for the meal as it was beautiful- compliments to the chefs!

Overall the stay was amazing and we will most definitely recommend this hotel to others! Already looking at our next stay! Thank you to all the staff, especially Paul on the reception who was a pleasure!

22 of us stayed in the Laurent Perrier Suite for a Hen Do upon arriving everything looked okay.....however as the weekend went on it was a nightmare, not worth the money at all they are making a killing on a basic room advertised as luxury.
2am Saturday morning room next door playing music so loud it woke the whole party up and felt like you was in the room with them, called down to reception and was advised all music had to be turned off by 12pm a porter went to "investigate" we watched them put their ear to the door and walk by and then they said "they'd knock and told them" called a second time and was told they didn't know where the noise was coming from (lies) on the 3rd call a different a porter came and to be fair he did knock and ask them to turn it off or down.
This room is over 2 floors with each bedroom having a en-suite, part of the group that were staying upstairs got showers in the morning, and water then started to come through into the bedrooms/wardrobes below soaking and ruining some of the girls clothes! Maintenance came and said there was a blockage and all fixed and nothing more he could do until the water dried out in the ceiling so it continued to leak. We were told by reception the rooms would all be cleaned whilst we were out but no one came again we had to call reception.
Requested for the bath/pool to be emptied at 8am Saturday morning after using this the Friday night came back at 2pm and was still full this was after asking at reception also for this to be done.
The drains stunk in the room and smelt like raw sewage.
Kettle didn't work in the room this was replaced but only after asking twice.
We were given additional rooms which we believed were to stay in/shower in due to the issues with our room only to be told at 3:30 on Saturday we need them back for other guests but this was never mentioned prior to this or when we were originally given the keys for these rooms.
Deputy manger Donna was not interested at all! We were promised she would come to our room to see us and she never came, when we asked for her at reception the receiptionist went in the back and we could see him speaking to her but we were told "she was on the phone"

The only good thing about the hotel was probably the breakfast, food was hot and cooked well only thing on offer was a full English due to current times.

The room is not worth the money at all and the money they make on it which is a lot they should use to upgrade/repair to a higher standard and definitely sort the plumbing issues out

Had to wait over 2 hours before we checked in. We weren’t told how long we would be waiting so conveniently was placed in the bar to wait where we were the only thing to do was buy expensive drinks with incredibly slow service. Check in said 3 and managed to get our room after 5 which of course delayed all plans for the evening. Then after a long walk to the room it was such a disappointment. It felt cold and bare. It was supposed to be a double room and was in fact 2 single beds together, not what you expect for a couples stay in an expensive hotel. Main attraction was jacuzzi bath tub which had a layer of grime over it. The whole bathroom especially didn’t feel very clean especially floors and bathtub which I assumed we waited for 2 hours for them to deep clean it but apparently not. Even worse it that the water wasn’t even hot! We had to keep filling the kettle just to get the bath full to a reasonable temperature. Couldn’t get a shower in the morning because all they had was a rain shower in the middle of the bath which is no good for us girls especially who don’t want to have to blow dry their hair again for a 1 night stay. Then there was loads of street noise and that was in the middle of the week and the doors are paper thin so could hear everything outside and inside the rooms. Was told the breakfast was amazing but there was only a cooked breakfast option with no extra options for vegetarians. Waiting again for check out in a reception full of people unable to social distance and not having to wear masks. Staff seemed great but accommodation was such a let down and they clearly don’t have enough help and preparation for these difficult times. I’ve never left a bad review on anything but I just can’t believe this was supposed to be an expensive stay in the famous shankly hotel. Would only of been happy paying £20 for this stay and would of been more comfortable in a premier inn! Never felt like we have wasted so much money and time.

I am shocked to read the views below, especially the last as it is the room we stayed in just a few days ago. The decor was beautiful and unlike any hotel I’ve ever visited before. We had a double jacuzzi bath in the main bathroom along with a secret room will a full sized jacuzzi tub ! I do agree that there were a few maintenance issues eg a few scratches on the wallpaper and the odd crack etc. however it would be hard to repair minor things each time the room is used. This is a party hotel after all and accidents do happen.
The room was very clean and had great facilities eg tea and coffee and a large TV. The view from our room was amazing and you could see the liver building in the distance.
The hotel was in an excellent location, about 5 minutes walk from Liverpool One and 10 minutes walk from the Albert Docs. This was perfect for us as we went out exploring for most of the day and all attractions were within walking distance.
We had a full English breakfast both mornings and it was delicious. Good quality ingredients, fruit juice, tea and coffee was included along with a selection of cereals, yogurt, fruit etc.
Service was great at breakfast and the bar. Reception were also very helpful and quick to respond when we asked for some extra towels, toilet roll etc for our room on the second day.
Me and my boyfriend will be returning to this hotel again next month for my birthday and I have recommended it to a lot of my friends as it was amazing ! 100% worth the money we paid.

What an amazing stay !!!

Stayed at this fabulous hotel this weekend and what a amazing experience !

When booking this hotel over the phone I new this was the hotel for me ! I could not wait to visit , the woman on reception made me feel so exited about my visit and had me counting down the days.
I had booked this for a treat for my partner for Xmas and last minute decided that i wanted to book some extras. I was able to do this over social media messenger with ease and was even sent a payment link to pay at my ledger ! So simple and easy !

On arrive we instantly felt so welcome , we had book to go the Motown cream tea event that started at 1:30 but booking wasn’t until 3:00 , we arrived early at 1 the amazing and extremely complimentary receptionist took are bags and stored them for us so we could go to the event and even had time to have a coffee in the bar before making are way over to the cream tea !

The organisation of this event was Insane ! The food was incredible and extremely fresh there was plenty on offer for both of us that we couldn’t even finish it all, but that was not a problem as doggy bags on offer to take home with you when you are finished , also have to comment on the amount of staff on that day , they could not do enough for you constantly checking if we was ok needed anything and topping up are drinks all included in the price.

After that we made are way back to reception to collect are bags and make are way to are room , and wow we were not disappointed massive room with living area kitchen huge bedroom and of course the spa bath !!

A quick freshen up and down to the restaurant to enjoy dinner the food again was perfect and could not recommend it enough this time enjoying some Prosecco along side a Sunday roast , felt like a Christmas dinner in a well decorated festive restaurant perfect for the Xmas gift treat vibe .

Then back to the room to enjoy the bath spa with a early night it a very large and comfy bed !

Thanks again to all and can not wait to have the change to visit again x

Stayed at the Shankly hotel on Friday and I will be back! Even the lift from the car park to the lobby felt like a little bit of luxury. I would’ve thought the car park would be free to guests, £15 for 24hours wasn’t too bad though and I felt safe leaving my car there. The location was ideal too with the car park and reception being short walks away from Liverpool centre.

The jacuzzi bath in the room was lovely and relaxing. The only disappointing part of the stay was when I arrived back to the hotel in the evening, the room service said it was pizza only and no alcohol, I was looking forward to a bedtime glass of wine in the bubbles.

I paid for my stay before I arrived and when I arrived at the hotel they ask for an additional £50 card payment as a security deposit, they have said this will be refunded, however it would’ve been nice to have known about this in advance. It’s a good job I had the funds available, some people may not.

Overall I would recommend this hotel and I will be asking friends if they would live to come with me soon!

This was the 3rd time I've visited.
The first time we booked for my mum and me to stay and have treatments at James Street. There was issues around this booking due to having us wait to check in for an hour due to rooms not being ready, making us late for treatments and late for meal etc. The room wasn't cleaned but had the personalised cakes and rose petal etc. But all this was rectified. We were offered another nights stay with prosecco in the room and breakfast.
Used this offer with my partner and we couldn't fault it.
This 3rd time- booking was made so easy with our gift voucher over the phone we booked the bubbles and breakfast deal. Stayed in a smaller room compared to the other times but it was still really nice- perfect for the 2 of us. Music was playing on the TV and prosecco was chilled in ice bucket. Welcoming for the room.
The breakfast is always a hit with us.
Since the first problems, we've never had an issue since.
Fast service at check in and check out. Staff were warm and no concerns.
Will stay again.

We stayed there as a group of 11 in the signature living suite, the flamingo room, to say we was disappointed is a understatement.
The floors were filthy, within minutes of walking round bare feet our feet were black.
There were raw plugs on the walls, major health and safety violation, the doors were unfinished with visible filler.
There was no where to hang our wet towels to dry, 11 of us getting ready and washing our hair with no where to hang our towels left them very damp and the room looking cluttered. The wall paper was peeling and bubbled. The tiles in the hot tub were awful, needed re tiling or at least re grouting.
Anytime we wanted the hot tub filled, refilled, heated, jets turned on, emptied we had to get out the hot tub, go down to reception for someone to come to our room, there was no phone to communicate to reception, and we had to allow people into the room whilst we was in our swimwear.
Had to ask for fresh towels, the de humidifier didn’t work, so with the hot tub, showers, no opening windows and no de humidifier it felt very damp in there.
Dinner was pre ordered, yet we still had to wait an hour for it, 30 mins for cocktails, we asked for the bill 3 times, the steak was not nice, the restaurant wasn’t even busy.
The Saving grace was Rob, he worked the nights there, brilliant character, very helpful, super polite and all round great worker.
