Reviews summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.
Powered by AI
The Adelphi Hotel's central location earns consistent praise from guests as a prime spot for city exploration, although the charm of its historic character is overshadowed by a need for refurbishment. While the service often receives commendations for being friendly and helpful, experiences of inconsistency with occasional slow or rude interactions have been noted. The hotel's amenities and rooms are regularly described as outdated, with guests highlighting the urgent need for updates.
Moreover, travelers frequently comment on noise disturbances and a general lack of soundproofing, detracting from their stay. Cleanliness is mostly satisfactory, but some areas could benefit from more attention. Opinions on the hotel's value for money are split, with some guests finding reasonable deals and others questioning the worth due to the hotel's conditions.

Don’t be put off by negative reviews. If your after 5 star hotel, then book a 5 star. If your after value for money, clean rooms fresh towels and a clean bed, then give this hotel a try. It’s definitely an aged hotel, and maybe it does need a lick of paint but £40 for a Friday night. 😀😀 stayed in grotty b&b’s that have charged more. The rooms have tea and coffee, (8 milk cartons, 😀 prem inn only ever leave 4) it’s in a vibrant city centre location, so don’t expect it to be quiet. Car parking across the road is only£4 per day. The day is 8am to 8pm, so you will need to pay £8. Do this online or the app. Machines only allow 1 day at a time.

On a 5 day break with National Holidays from 06/01/2020, as others have reported the hotel is in drastic need of a refurbishment but considering the price we paid for our trip we have no complaints. Our room was clean and warm, could have done with brighter lights as quite dark. No view from the room window but we only used the room to slepp in and not gaze out of the window all day.Plenty wardrobe and drawer space. Meals we very good, no complaints. Would return again but we we have noticed the hotel getting in a worse state since our previous visit in 2016. Having a staff member on the main entrance would stop beggars from outside the hotel coming in and using the toilets, also from sitting on the steps begging. I wouldn't advise staying at the Adelphi if booking full price ie not with National Holidays

Booked as it looked like a stunning building but wish we hadn’t. Price was good at £140 for 2 nights but that’s where it ends! Check in was a disaster with one person at the counter and a queue of about 20 and a coach load of around 50 had also just arrived. Then the computer crashed ! The double room was small , decoration very poor with peeling paint, stained carpets and mould round the bath. We went out in Liverpool and on returning to the hotel there were homeless people sitting outside the hotel and in the reception area asking for spare change. We got our room changed to a different room but it was no better. The whole place needs refurbished. On Sunday the check out is 11am and between 9.10 and 9.45am we had housekeeping come to the door 4 times asking us to leave so they could clean the room! Ridiculous. Plus side is the bar is cheap

I booked this hotel for our days away in Liverpool. It was our first time in Liverpool and I used booking.com to get this deal as they offered a discount as this is their "best seller". I regret booking this hotel so much!
First of all the hotel needs upgrading, the furnishing is old and the carpets have seen better days in the 1980s! The awful odour coming from the carpets lingered all over the hotel including elevators. Honestly not sure how the furniture is still standing as it looks like it was bought while King Henry ruled.
Second of all the rooms are dirty, glass tables in the room looked like they haven't seen a proper clean in ages. Dust all over the fireplace. The bathroom was barely cleaned. We only received one towel for body and one for feet and it was booked for a couple. We had to ask for toilet paper as there was none in the bathroom when we came in. The room service has not come in to clean the room or change the sheets once while we wore staying there, bare in mind we wore there for 4 nights. We had to phone the reception to get clean towels or approached them while leaving the hotel in the morning. The staff didn't seem one bit friendly or helpful, I don't blame them as they work in such a poor hotel. But a smile wouldn't hurt them, also huffing and puffing when you ask them questions or for directions.
The fire alarm kept randomly go off in our room although we don't smoke and there was no steam in the room. I guess this happens regularly as the security didn't even come up to the room once to see why it was going off so much.
The walls between the rooms are so thin and there is a door placed in each room connecting to another room so you can clearly hear everything. The room we wore connected to next door was a bathroom and we could hear everything that was happening in there (no privacy at all)
Would not recommend opting for breakfast, not much choice as you get a fry up every day. The sausages are not done properly and are clearly very cheap as they didn't taste like anything. Scramble egg was filled to the brim with water and it looked more like egg soup then scramble. Honestly, we just had it once and then we opted in to go to bars across the road as the food was much nicer!
No manual in the room or facilities booklet.
There was people taking drugs in the reception "lounge" area and local dealers wore also dealing drugs out in the open. There was people also smoking marijuana outside the hotel and again nothing was done about it.
Honestly the only good thing about this hotel is the location...
Unless you're going on a stag or hen not worth your money !!

We stayed at the Adelphi hotel for four nights on a Just go coach trip, we just loved being able to stay in such an iconic grand old art Deco hotel, just to walk into the huge lounge and see the enormous chandeliers is amazing.
Our room was large and comfortable, the bathroom was rather tired but clean and usable.
Our package was for breakfast and dinner and was very acceptable considering the price we paid for our Just Go holiday. Tip, get there early to miss the crowds.
We paid the ten pounds pp supplement one night and ate in the adjoining Cromptons restaurant, well worth the extra, great service and lovely food, the best sirloin steak I've had in a long time! Thanks all!
The great location in the city centre does mean it can get a bit noisy at times but being able to walk to all the attractions makes up for it.
Some people do seem to love to complain and there are faults to be found but we really enjoyed our stay at the Adelphi.

We arrived early so they offered us a room that was ready on the 6th floor which was fine, we walked into the room and wood was chipped off the door frame, a bottle of barcardi open and the bed was unmade and the room a general mess, obviously this was a mistake and this room wasnt ready but this isnt great amidst a global pandemic when theres a standard things should be kept to.
So we went back down to reception and they moved us to another room but with not much of an apology. We got to the other room and it was clean and a nice modernised bathroom (but needs some extra cleaning behind the bath taps)
The television didnt work, the coaxial cable was incomplete, the window wouldnt fully close which meant we were woken up at 5am by people sounding car horns.
There was no bin in the room, no telephone, no main light in the room (only 2 lamps) and tap covers were on the wrong way round, the cold comes out the hot tap and vice versa and only realised when I turned the cold tap on to clean my teeth, having had to wash my face with cold water 🥶
Damp walls where the wallpaper is coming off the walls and stains on the carpet. I guess thats why there is no light and so you cant see the monstrosity of the not so elegant decor.
We went out and when we came back there was lots of people sat outside on the steps drinking cans of white lightening (or some equivalent) and smoking weed.
We put our masks on and there was around 6 doormen at the entrance which I wasnt quite sure why and they said “dont worry about putting that on for us” yet it clearly states on the hotel website “masks should be worn around the hotel apart from in your room”
Then we noticed that 90% of the guests werent wearing a mask surely not that many people are exempt?
Also where is the hotel car park?
I drove around Liverpools one way system for 20 mins (due to road works) and could not find the car park so had to park at a public car park which was actually fine as its £5 for a days parking (it is closed at night time though so you cannot access your car) but that was fine as we didnt need to use the car at night.
This room cost £49 for 1 night (not the £44 I booked it for online) which was cheap for a Saturday night in Liverpool and compared to other hotels in the area but it definitly needs a face lift, if you are just wanting a clean bed for the night then this is the hotel for you….
The only good that came from staying at this hotel was feeding the homeless guy across the road. 😃

I booked 3 nights
I’ve read the reviews but if you know what your paying for it’s a bargain
I had room 558 on me own.
It had a double bed, 2 pillows, large bathroom with shower attachment, lots of toiletries, 2 large bath towels, 2 hand towels , Tv with remote, kettle, tea and coffee, ironing board with new iron. Hot water in the shower
The room cost me £81
I got a breakfast twice at £9.99 which was lovely. Help yourself and the food was well cooked, hot and tasty.
There was tea, coffee, orange and apple juice
It’s a 1 minute walk from lime street, it’s in the city centre so everything is close by. Walked the pier head and it was a comfy 20 minute walk
Does it require updating……..yes
Is it comfy……….yes
Like I said…..it was £81 for three nights in the city centre
There’s a Lidl a couple of hundred yards away when you turn right and I got me drinks and crisps etc for £3
It’s covid so staff didn’t change the bed or towels but reception sorted the toiletries out when I asked

I have read many negative reviews of the hotel and they do have a point BUT they fail to mention the main thing.
The Adelphi is what it is. And that is a budget hotel. Back in the day it was grand and luxurious, and aimed at the wealthy, but now it is for those on a tighter budget. We paid just approx. £75 per night for two that included breakfast and dinner! (Oh and 2 for 1 drinks at the bar)
So to moan about minor things like rooms that are in urgent need of refurbishment seems rather petty.
Admittedly the rooms were a bit shabby, but the housekeeping staff were brilliant and couldn’t do enough for us. The food was a throw back to the 70s but it was fresh and tasty, and again the service staff were attentive.
The lobby area maintains its air of elegance of times gone by and it was nice to stay somewhere that had a rich history and wasn’t a disinfected, boring block of the mundane. Think of it as staying in a museum and make the most of what it does offer rather than what it doesn’t.
It has a great central location with all the main tourist spots are in easy access and most are walkable.
If you want modern and boring book into a much more expensive Premier Inn.

Please, please do not stay in this hotel. Just spend a little extra for another. Liverpool is a fantastic place and the locals are so friendly but this hotel dampened my visit. The hotel is dirty, the bed smelt of vomit, there was what I think was semen stains on the carpet and the room was
filthy. The breakfast was awful, I had paid extra but cashed my tickets in as I can’t eat black toast and the cheapest of cheap sausages. Peoples rooms were being broken into by some of the guests and it stank of cannabis. There were people sitting on the front steps shouting, swearing, drinking, spitting and there was a pile of vomit that had not been cleaned up but the rain got it on the 3rd day. The staff of the Adelphi were fine, their hands are tied due to the council homing the homeless in the hotel. I believe they have been there since March. On my first morning there was a guy outside and myself and another lady thought he was dead.
I have complained to Britannia and they offered me a 10% refund with an upgrade if I stayed again. This was an insult. I have asked for a manager to contact me from Britannia but surprise, surprise - no contact. I am going to take this further as I believe lives are being put at risk. Some residents have no respect for Covid.
Please do not stay here. Don’t think it’s just a place to lay my head. People scream at 4am. T.V.’s are blaring and rooms are being broken into. I met a lady and her 15 year old daughter was scared to leave the room.
My partner informed me he wouldn’t go on a lads holiday to this hotel. He has stayed in many hotels but he said that it wasn’t fit for any kind of animal. Animals are cleaner than some of the residents.
The front staff need support and the cleaners need re-trained.

Booked an overnight stay as part of a package which included an evening meal and breakfast.
Had read some less favourable reviews however I wanted to experience this grand old hotel myself,
When we arrived, reception was crowded but it was check in time so was not surprised. I was able to pay for parking at the rear of the hotel at reception (£13 for 24 hrs) a little steep but it is the city centre. Our room (314) was classed as an executive double and had oak panelled walls and a whirlpool bath and was clean and comfortable. OK, the furniture had seen better days but I wasn’t going to live here! The windows were dirty but we’re on the third floor! The secondary glazing wouldn’t open which would have only been a problem if any ventilation was required which, being February,it wasn’t.
What needs to be remembered is this is a BRITANNIA hotel and,as such, for anyone who has ever stayed in a hotel in this chain,is cheap and cheerful.
Our evening meal was superb and, although took some time to arrive was delicious, hot and well presented.
Breakfast was buffet style with a great selection and again, was delicious and plentiful.
My only real complaint was that there was not enough bar staff in the Wave bar and stood for a good 15 mins to be served and had to attract the attention of the server who took offence that I had done so....also I was awoken by some inconsiderate patrons in the early hours but I can’t hold the hotel accountable for that.
My advice would be to go with fairly low expectations and, like me,you may be pleasantly surprised.
This is a grand old hotel which has seen better days however, there still remains echos of a bygone era and is well worth a visit
