The only thing that disappointed us a little was that even after a few requests, we didn't get bathrobes. Also, we hung up our towels each day as we only used them once (albeit over the shower rail) but they were still changed daily. Lovely to have fresh towels, but really not necessary!
We choose 2 sharing platters from the Igloo menu, although there is plenty of other choice on the garden menu. Food was delicious and plentiful. The staff were very friendly and attentive and made sure we were kept supplied with drinks, no long waits. If you’re looking for a place to go with friends would highly recommend you book the Crowne Plaza outdoor terrace.
However, the hotel is used for weddings , it appears every day and as a result is extremely busy. The hotel is short staffed we were told. We asked for rooms to be cleaned but there was not enough house keeping staff to cope with the number of rooms. We stayed three nights and not once were our rooms cleaned. It did say on our booking in information we had to request housekeeping, which we did but it wasn’t done. We did not have tea/coffee/biscuits, toilet rolls/soap replaced. We hunted for housekeeping staff who were apologetic as we were not on their list for rooms to be cleaned despite requesting it, gave us supplies but it was not how a 5* hotel should operate and fell far short of the standard. We would have liked to have eaten in the hotel as after a day’s sightseeing with children it would have been lovely not to have to go out to eat. It is a good fifteen minutes walk from Albert Dock where most restaurants are and on a windy , cool, rainy evening we didn’t want to have to go out again but we had no option . We were told there was no chance of us being able to dine there on any of the three nights we stayed. We had corresponded by email prior to our visit and at no time were we warned how busy the hotel is due to weddings nor that we would be unable to dine there. We chose the hotel as it had a swimming pool and it was a treat for our grandchildren. In hindsight, it was not worth the extra cost. It was obvious the staff were rushed off their feet and I did feel for them. However, I had paid for a service which I feel was just not up to scratch and was not worth the money.
On the plus side, the breakfast was very good and I cannot fault the staff who were excellent even when harassed. The rooms were a good size and were clean. There was a large car park and it was easy, although expensive , to park.
Would I stay again? Sadly, probably not as the hotel did not live up to my expectations.
However! Even though we had coffee making facilities we had no spoons or milk, (they did bring them once asked) also we couldn’t connect to any WiFi for work. Also, within the room was a lot of dust and dirt, and things like broken ceiling tiles and door frames, which are minor but you know it hasn’t been cleaned properly and during these Covid times it isn’t good enough. I also feel like £22 for parking (discounted a little with the room) was extortionate when you’ve already paid a lot for the room especially when you have no other choice but to park there. The biggest problem was we ordered food service via the menu in the welcome pack they’ve gave us on check in, when we checked out the prices were hugely different, the prices were more expensive. We did question the front desk staff and apparently the wrong menus got sent out so they’ve taken them down conveniently the morning I complained. They did give us a refund, but if we didn’t notice it on the email sat in the car park before we made our long journey home then we may not have questioned it. imagine if they did this for one night in the 500 rooms etc then that’s a lot of money to overcharge people...
The room was a standard room but it was more than adequate; clean and well appointed and very comfortable. The bar area is massive and fantastic for a big group of people. We had drinks there before and after our meal out.
The breakfast is £15 a head but, it is by far one of the best hotel breakfasts we’ve had. High quality ingredients, well cooked and a huge variety. You can have poached eggs cooked to order which were lovely. It’s more than value for money.
The overwhelming take away from the stay was how friendly everyone was, and I mean everyone. Reception, bar staff, housekeepers, breakfast staff, night porter, were all so lovely and friendly.
If we return to Liverpool we will certainly be staying in this hotel again.
We absolutely loved our stay. The hotel is clean, modern and the staff are very friendly and helpful. We were very impressed with all of the facilities and our room had an amazing view of the docks which made the stay even more lovely.
Location wise this hotel is perfectly situated and within easy walking distance of all the shops, bars and restaurants. The car park is easily accessible, is right outside of the hotel and reasonably priced. One small criticism would be the car park is rather small and the spaces aren’t too big so people do need to be careful when parking up and getting in and out of the car. My car did get scratched during the stay - but this is at no fault of the hotel and probably just someone not being too cautious when getting in or out of their own car.
We were really impressed with the Covid measures in place. Face masks were worn unless sat in the bar/restaurant and hand wash was strategically placed all around the hotel.
We’d definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Liverpool and will book to stay here again in the future!
