Friendly Scottish welcome at this absolutely gorgeous B&B. Beautifully decorated throughout, the rooms are stunning and spacious with everything you could possibly need - amazing choice of teas & coffees, biscuits, sweets, toiletries, bath robes and slippers, iPod docking station, remote controlled fan, hair-dryer etc! Luxury bathroom with fabulous waterfall shower - bliss! Lovely quality bedding and the comfiest bed - we had a great nights sleep. Then came the breakfast - wow what a choice! Freshly baked pastries and breads, a delicious full English with every possible condiment imaginable all from M&S, it was one of the best we've ever had. It's 5 minutes away from the town centre with a great guide in the room to local restaurants. We went to Buongiorno Italia for lunch and Bill's for dinner both were fantastic. As I said such attention to detail made this a perfect B&B stay for when we went to Harry Potter which is just 15 minutes away. Why would you stay in an awful Travelodge when you can stay in this beautiful and unique place for the same price? Book now! xx

The loveliest Bed & Breakfast I have ever stayed in, Linda was very welcoming, the room was beautiful and facilities excellent, breakfast was also lovely with a great choice, just a short walk into St Albans, it's just a pity we could only stay one night, would recommend to anyone visiting St Albans and would definitely stay again.

needed to stay for 7 nights in St Albans and have previously tried most of the quality hotels in the area
Found the excellent reviews for No 29, on Trip Advisor, and sent an e-mail to Linda, the owner.....she replied virtually immediately ( always a good sign) to confirm availability.
When I arrived I was offered either the blue or gold room and chose the latter. It is very spacious ,clean and with a small en-suite bathroom ( but very modern and efficient). The bed is huge and extremely comfortable and the furnishings and décor are a brilliant mix... it is a room worthy of any 4 or 5 star hotel( Linda could be an interior designer if she ever tires of running no 29)
the internet connection is strong and free, Breakfast is as close to perfection as possible. everything is freshly prepared to order, by Linda, and it is truly outstanding
The location is central to St Albans and the rail station with direct access to central London....both are 5-10 minutes walk from the hotel. There is even free limited parking available on site
I honestly cannot think of anything negative to say at all ( very unusual if you read my other reviews). This is a wonderful Bed and Breakfast, with an owner committed to customer service at the highest level
Will never stay anywhere else when in the area and neither should you.......highest possible recommendation

Everything about this B and B was honestly perfect. There was off road parking and we were greeted at the door by our host. I immediately got the impression nothing would be too much trouble. If we had needed anything we would only have to ask, the great thing was there was honestly nothing we could think of!!! After a three hour drive we fell on the tea tray, proper cups and saucers matching the theme of the room, every different type of tea and coffee (even a hot chocolate) you could want, biscuits etc etc
My sister and I shared a twin room which was light and airy and just so luxurious, it was heaven. There were beautiful antiques mixed with sumptuous velvet cushions and throws, we loved it! The beds were very comfy and the bedding was so soft, we had never felt anything like it! The en-suite was great, with all the toiletries you could need, only minor niggle was the small basin but they have made the best of the space and the amazing shower made up for the basin! We also had a walk in wardrobe and were delighted when it automatically lit when we opened the door!
Our mum stayed in a room by herself and her room was every bit as pretty as ours, with fantastic little touches and a slightly larger en-suite.

It’s in a fab location, a gentle stroll away from the city centre, although we got a taxi out in the evenings which was little over three pounds each way.

Breakfast was simply lovely and served in a room with soft Scottish music playing. There were fruit breads, pastries and orange juice on the large table, fresh tea or coffee brought to you, cereals if wanted and a really good full English (not a spot of grease, just lovely food). My mum has a gluten allergy and our host even had special fruit bread for her, so top marks! We dined with another couple both mornings and were all sat around a large table. It was nice to chat as if we had been at different tables we might not have got the chance.

We stayed for two nights to enjoy the shopping and restaurants in St Albans and am already wondering when we can go back!

i will run out of superlatives reviewing this b and b. it is perfect, wonderful, superb.....i went to st albans for a weekend - i usually stay in premier inns as they are cheap and cheerful, but there isnt one in stalbans so there had to be an alternative. i found this place from tripadvisor and was impressed with the reviews. i had been in contact with linda some weeks before my journey. linda was very helpful and friendly - she confirmed my booking very promptly and declined my offer of a deposit.
upon arrival i was greeted by her and shown to my room. first impressions of the place are very good....and it gets better! my room was on the top floor so very quiet. it was luxurious.... the furniture and soft furnishings were all well co-ordinated.. and very new. the shower room was magnificent. flat screen tv, very well stocked tea and coffee with a kettle tea pot and even a cafetier....the whole house is very well converted, with good quality fittings throughout.
breakfast was huge....and very welll cooked - 2 sausages, 2 rashers, fried egg, hash, mushrooms, and tomatoes. all nice and dry without excessive fat or grease. cereals, fruit salad, toast, and pastries accompanied by lashings of fresh hot coffee.
i couldnt repeat that the second day and just had toast!!!
linda was always on hand to help and to chat. she isnt overbearing but very natural, friendly and helpful. i checked out after 2 days and gave her my plastic. very easy.if i have to criticise anything, and in the interest of balance i think i should, it is that the shower itself, whilst being a very impressive piece of kit with a hand held unit, and a fixed unit with shower heads at waist height, chest height as well as above the head, was not very powerful.... and fluctuates a lot when (presumably) other taps are turned on. but it works and its a minor detail that it doesnt work as well as it might.......
everywhere was spotlessly clean and tidy and my room was serviced while i was downstairs at breakfast - very impressive
so all in all, this place is just perfect..... very comfortable, very easy, and very very good value......thanks linda !!! looking froward to my next visit...

Fleuchary house is my go to for myself and my family, when they visit the area and need a place to stay.

The decoration is absolutely gorgeous. Rooms are very well thought out and spacious for UK standards.

Linda is the most accommodating host ever and the dog is absolutely lovely!

Location is very good, in between St Albans City station and the town centre, with easy access to elsewhere in Hertfordshire, Gatwick, Luton and London.

I strongly recommend Fleuchary house!

I admit i have reviewed No 29 before but the continued excellence leads me to do so again.( 309 five star reviews should say it all)
Rooms are spacious, expertly and tastefully furnished, together with extremely comfortable beds, quality linens and toiletries .....Linda is the perfect host, attentive, friendly, knowledgeable and provides the best freshly prepared breakfast in the City.
On site parking, free wifi, easy walking distance to city centre in one direction and the train station in the other( 10 mins or less)
all of the above leads me to believe this location deserves to be rated as a 5 star boutique hotel with Bed and Breakfast prices.....just try it, you will not be disappointed ....whenever i am traveling to St Albans this is always my first booking and i change the dates of my trip if rooms are not available....yes it's that good !!!!!!

Excellent welcome from Linda who was attentive but not overly intrusive. I had a lovely, comfortable and quiet room which felt like home. I also enjoyed a fantastic breakfast with the other wonderful and interesting guests. Something which rarely occurs in a chain hotel. Located just 5 minutes walk from the town centre and 10 minutes to St Albans City rail station, making it a great base to explore locally or for getting into central London. It took me around 30 minutes from leaving the front door to stepping off the fast train to St Pancras with plenty of return trains running late. If you're working in London, it would be an ideal place to be based from. I'll be using this place again in the future. Thanks Linda! x

I rang this venue to make a booking. They advised couldn't look at book at that moment but said they'd ring back, took no phone number and really didn't seem interested in our custom. Wouldn't want to stay at a venue that can't even provide a service before even got there
