Stayed for one night. My family from Kent also had two other rooms. All rooms were fantastic. So clean and bright. We had a meal in the Belvedere Restauranté which is attached. The food for all of us was out of this world. The service for the restaurant and hotel was perfect. Temperature is taken on check-in. Tables are spread out more and hand sanitiser is everywhere. All rooms are ‘fog sanitized’ in between customers. There’s a kettle in the room but ask for mugs and condiments as they’re not allowed to put in room. We took our own and just asked for milk. We will definitely be back. I was really impressed.

I’d previously read it was dated in its decor etc but how refreshing to have warmth and not the sterile decor being forced on us from the corporate companies. It is an ideal location for the town centre only being 10 minutes walk through pleasant streets or a quick taxi drive. There’s great parking at no extra charge. Pay less to stay at Travel Lodge if you must, personally I wouldn’t as there’s no hidden extras here and the entire stay was very comfortable and personable . The owners are great hosts. The bed was so comfortable, everything worked in the shower room, tv, kettle, hairdryer… all there and working. Just one thing and of course it’s personal… I would have liked fresh drinking water in the room. However go to their cutest bar and you can have the most sublime St Albans water.. no problem there then .. all in all the stay was relaxing, just the ticket. Thank you so very much x

A family gathering brought us to this little gem of an hotel offering comfortable luxurious accommodation within walking distance of St Albans town centre.
The bedrooms are well appointed, ours had a view over the garden and during our 2 night stay we had excellent sleeps.
We found the hotel has very friendly but professional staff offering great customer service.
The breakfast and separate dinner dining areas are lovely calming spaces which have relaxing atmospheres complementing the high standard of food on offer.

I have had the great misfortune to be a guest here several times . It is always the same . Grossly overpriced food , blandly tolerable ingredients , always overcooked , exceptionally slow service thru a mask of over the top , fake hospitality and truely depressing rooms . The staff always reek of disinterest , a vender of charm fades rapidly when one points out the inevitable missed or forgotten items on a simple meal and drinks . The decor is straight from 1976 , rooms are tiny , with unclean areas , and are shockingly expensive . I guess it keeps ticking over on the back of a nice garden and being just about walking distance ( but actually not very close ) to station and the better pubs of this once fine but fading , suburban city . St Albans without doubt has some terrific back street pubs and a few good independent restaurants on its pretty streets . But this is NOT a place to enjoy , to stay or have a drink . Avoid it .

We arrived at the hotel and were shown to a family room (room 26) in the original part of the property. As soon as the outer doors opened you could smell damp which wasn't a great start. The room itself was an ok size with a double and two single beds. The devor screamed 1970's and the sheets and bedding looked vintage. The toilet was in a separate alcove to the sink and shower cubicle. Both doors had locks on the OUTSIDE of the doors and the toilet door didnt actually close at all. The shower barely drizzled water on you and the whole room, after seeing photos on websites etc was so disappointing that i wanted to leave immediately.

We ended up eating dinner in the hotel. All really bland, tasteless and basic.

Breakfast the same with bacon undercooked and sausage overcooked.

All in all a really unhappy experience.

Our room looked over the garden which was a good feature. It was of a reasonable size with hanging wardrobe, plenty of drawers, a writing space, mirror and small TV, which had all the main programs. The bathroom was adequate with shower and bath gel as well as soap. The towels were one medium and one small each, although a bit on the thin side (not a problem for us). The shower was fine, although anyone with a large wasteline would have a problem getting in and out through the narrow gap! We were able to walk easilyalong safe and pleasant roads into the city centre. The station is close by as is the main railway line. If rail noise is a problem for you, ask for a front-facing room. There are trains, presumably freight, all though the night. The breakfasts were excellent. Altogether a good place to stay. We were here for four days over a weekend and would go back again.

Arrived mid evening to surly staff, the smallest room I have ever seen, no lift, room like a sauna with a noisy stadium most evening which was eventually replaced with a branch line train noise every 20 mins until gone midnight. Iron facility from the iron age bolted to the landing wall. Dinner order messed up. Cancelled 2nd night as couldn’t face it - looked for someone to complain to next morning around 0700 not a soul around. Shower either ice cold or scalding hot and so small each body part got its own wash. Single bed very uncomfortable. Carpets stained & threadbare like eveything else.

We booked a triple room for three tall adults and when we asked for a quiet room, they obliged. Excellent. Room was spacious and it was near conveniences such as restaurants and only 20 mins drive to Harry Potter experience. Slept like log. Plenty of plugs to charge phone. Initially wifi was not connectable [keeps saying could not get IP address] . When we asked them [eventually] to restart the server, it connected straight away. Breakfast was very filling, and certainly better than travellodge. The hospitality both when checking it and at breakfast was good. Beds were comfortable. Sad they only served dinner Monday to Friday but we did walk for 15 minutes to the town and found lots of good eateries. The Italian family and staff were very welcoming. They made us feel at home.

We chose Ardmore House for our family room whilst visiting London for sightseeing in August 2021. The hotel is in walking distance of both the railway station and St. Albans city centre but is in a lovely quiet street. The hotel itself is easy to find and has good parking. On arrival (we were very early) we were able to check in and pay without issue as well as book our breakfasts for the next day. We were given our keys so that we could set off to London and still get back in later in the day. After a busy day in the capital we returned to the hotel to find we had a lovely clean room with all the facilities we required. We retired to the bar which was extremely relaxing - just what we needed after our busy and tiring day. The beds are very comfortable and we all slept very well. We had the window open but the area was very peaceful. Our breakfast the next day was brilliant, perfectly cooked and staff were able to cater for my gluten intolerance easily. That evening we also went to the bar and had a lovely chat with the owner. We took in the conservatory which is delightful and also had a look at the terraced garden. The owner told us they hold weddings here and it is indeed a lovely setting for such events. We would definitely visit again and would recommend the hotel for a relaxing stay.

I dont know how to summarise my stay, it was such a mixed experience. Arriving, you're met with a reception area that can't have changed (barring plastic screen!) since the 1970s. However, the room, if dated, was clean and had an extremely comfy bed.

Noise from adjacent rooms was a bit intrusive at times but thankfully my neighbours were quiet overnight.

There is a large and pleasant breakfast room. Cooked food was good, orange juice and coffee were dreadful.

I paid £99 per night. I chose it because there was ample free parking and it's an easy walk to the city station.
