- A clean, light, and airy room with a great view of the seafront & HMS Warrior. - the bathroom was clean and fitted with a new shower and fittings. - A comfortable bed, though a little squeaky! - A hearty, no frills English breakfast. - The hotel is located between the old Naval dockyard and the Gunwharf Quays (Outlet shopping), just perfect. - The manager and his staff provide great customer service. - The room rates are very reasonably priced. - If we come back to this area, we would stop here again without hesitation. - A very positive stay!

It’s not often I start writing a review while I am still IN a place, but circumstances insist that I do. Stage 2 of the pre-chemotherapy getaway saw me and Mrs2b Nomad winging our way along the coast to Portsmouth, primarily because I like to turn into a bit of a history buff on occasion and the historic dockyard was calling to me (darn those rose tinted memories of childhood days and the Royal Navy’s “Navy Days”) A quick search found the Ship Leopard Boutique hotel with an available room - a “Compact Double”. Now I’m no grammar expert, but I’m pretty sure that compact generally means small, but this seemed far from THAT particular defining word but more on that shortly. We arrived at 2pm and were told that the room wasn’t quite ready but a lovely cup of coffee in the lounge area soon took care of that delay and up we went to the room. A superbly comfy bed, long corridor/storage area and a bathroom with rainfall shower had us superbly happy and a 2 minute stroll had us in the middle of the Gunwharf centre with restaurants aplenty and enough shops to sate even the most serious shopaholics cravings. Another 10 minute stroll had us in the town centre of Portsmouth but you could easily get a taxi or bus if your legs are a bit tired. Waking rested the next morning, this is where my compulsion to start the review early comes into play. Breakfast was your standard hotel fayre served COVID style by very attentive staff and with the hot food prepared to a delightfully high standard, we returned to our room sated and set up for the day ahead. A few minutes later a knock at our door revealed the manager (Dave?) offering us a room upgrade, an offer which was accepted with surprise and gratitude. This room I can only surmise was the King Deluxe suite, and in all honesty, I think it is bigger than my flat! A beautiful view out across the harbour and the HMS Warrior, a bath that even *I* could fit in and the whole room immaculately cleaned (at this point I have to stress that our first room was also immaculate!) and we were both just lost for words! All in all, I (we!) think that this is a FANTASTIC hotel, the staff are an absolute CREDIT to it (and I would be saying that even WITHOUT the upgrade). I think the last thing for me to say is THANK YOU guys for making my last break so special before I embark on my chemotherapy

At the time of writing this review, the Ship Leopard was 22nd best place to stay in Portsmouth. I can only summise that all the accomodation in Portsmouth above 22nd place must be outstanding!! On arrival into Portsmouth which was late morning, I attempted to check in early and make use of the site Car Park and the chap said it was fine to do so and if I wanted to leave my luggage in the back room he would upgrade my room to one with a front view at no extra charge due to a cancellation. Great!! Late afternoon I returned to the hotel only to find my luggage was missing! After running the consierge ragged for half an hour I found it was in my room after all!! Thank God for Covid masks to hide my red face!! He was mightily relieved and we both had a laugh about it at my expense! But seriously, this hotel is top notch. From the sizeable room and excellent shower, comfortable bed, great and welcoming staff, tasty breakfast and the amazing decor and surroundings, not to mention it's unbelievable location being next door almost to Gunwharf Quays, Spinnaker Tower and the Historic Dockyard, I really cannot fault this place. My only disappointment is that my Wife and I were only here for one night.

A lovely little hotel, friendly and comfortable. We stayed Saturday night/Sunday and visited Gun Wharf which is only a few minutes walk. Great location. Rooms are spotlessly clean. The owner was really helpful. Great breakfast. Would definitely stay again!!
