The hotel has a lovely charm about it. It is right on the seafront once you’ve walked through the gardens. We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay at this hotel so much so we have booked to return again next year! The pools are heated which is perfect in the unpredictable English weather! The lifeguards done an amazing job and were constantly checking everyone was safe and following the rules. The check in staff were friendly and pleasant and check in / check out was quick and easy. The breakfast, which was included in our room price, was lovely! I read some bad reviews but we had no complaints!! There was a selection of hot and cold breakfast items. It really was a truly amazing weekend and we are very pleased with our choice of hotel.

We were a party of 5 families with kids ranging from 6 to 15. We had terrible issues with the life guards at the pool. We are responsible parents but we were made feel constantly on edge by the lifeguards. You must be in the pool with a ratio 1 adult for every 2 kids. In the pool means in the pool. Sitting on the side with your legs in the water watching your child who is less then 2m away was not acceptable. There was a lot of rules and sometimes these were relaxed but then enforced then relaxed. We were always on edge and spoke with the hotel manager on several occasions as the rules were unclear. Not written down anywhere and seemed to change like the wind. Very frustrating and left some of the parents in tears. Our stay was for a week and we did not use the pool for the last 2 as the kids were fed up of being told off by the lifeguards. The lifeguards are rlss uk outsourced by the hotel for insurance reasons. We found the rules unreasonable for a hotel environment. On the plus side the staff in the hotel are very friendly but obviously short staffed. The garden is very nice. The outdoor pool is good but soured by the lifeguards. The breakfast is ok and served until 10.30. Minus The rooms are tired. Parking is a pain. We will not be returning.

We stayed as a family of 3 for a 4 night break. The outdoor pool is lovely and definitely a highlight of our stay - it is lovely and warm. The soft play is a nice touch for young children. It would've been great if more family activities were on offer - I did read about a kids club but this wasn't offered during our stay. The staff are friendly and the location is good (albeit a steep 10 minute downhill walk to the beach - something to bear in mind for elderly or less able visitors). Breakfast wasn't great unfortunately - veggie sausages were still frozen in the middle and our poached eggs were raw. I did receive an apology for this but no offer of properly cooked food to replace it. The toast machine setting was such that the toast was under-done after one cycle through but burnt after the second. The rooms are tired but a good size, though our 'garden view' was actually just the tops of some trees then a view of other buildings over a road. Strangely, the toilet was so close to the door that you have to sit at a 45 degree angle. The hotel overall is charming however and I would stay again minus breakfast just for the pool and lovely gardens.

We stayed in a family room which had a seperate room for kids in bunks and then our room with a cot. Overall we had a great time aided by the weather. Pool was fun and easy to get to the lovely sandy beach. (along the road as we had a buggy.) Its true the rooms are tired. The balcony has a solid parti on which means you can only see your sea view if you stand (glass would be so much better). But the location is great and everyome working there is trying their best. Can't help but feel they are struggling to get staff to cover everything. The terrace is lovely. They don't serve there so we ordered deliveroo as it was much better value than the hotel although we prob shouldn't have :) I'd go back when the kids club is back but the food in the hotel is very overpriced so would eat out.breakfast is great. Don't expect to get in before 3 they are very busy

Had a virgin experience bought for the chine Hotel we picked the right weekend. Got to hotel room wasn't ready was allowed to have lunch use pool they said. Mmm pool you had to book a slot even though no one was in it. Checked I to our room at 6pm nice and spaces but check out our view. Had a walk to seafront to have some dinner everywhere was booking only so went back to hotel to be told we hadn't booked so couldn't eat there 🤔 every round of drinks we was charged an 80p service charge soon mounts up. Parking is limited to then be to as we are leaving there is an overview carpark upthe Road won't be going back

Response from FJB Hotels, General Manager at Chine Hotel
Responded 2 weeks ago
Dear Tamie A, We appreciate the time you have taken to post a review of your recent stay at The Chine Hotel. Please note that our check in time is 4pm, however as mentioned on your arrival you were welcome to make use of the bar facilities until such time your room was ready. Unfortunately due to measures implemented due to COVID restrictions, use of the pool facilities is not available until after 4pm. We are pleased to hear of your comments regarding your room. We do have Garden and Sea view rooms at the Hotel. How unfortunate you were unable to dine at the seafront and that we were unable to accommodate you in our Restaurant, our Restaurant is very popular and we advise you to book in advance. The pool use timing and booking procedure, as well as Restaurant pre-booking recommendation is explained in our confirmation and pre-stay communications. Items on our food and drinks menu are subject to a discretionary service charge, which of course can be removed at your request. We do have two car parks both at the front and rear of the Hotel, in addition to three side building parking options and a further large car park about a two minute walk away. Reception would have been happy to advise and give directions should you have enquired regarding car parking. Kind regards, The Chine Hotel
