The food service was totally miss managed as we were refused access to the restaurant/dining room because of a booked group of billiards players. We ordered food in the bar from the bar menu but were later told we could only have food on the dining room menu but weren't allowed in, so waiters took the order & went downstairs to collect it. The next morning we were told the same for breakfast. Not what I would expect service wise.

Dear 528kenq, I'm sorry you were disappointed with the dinner & breakfast arrangements, due to the group we had in house, we made a decision to provide our private guests with a quieter dining experience in our conservatory. I'm sorry you were mis-informed and I will be sure to discuss your comments with the food & beverage manager. Kind Regards, Michaela

The room was OK, clean bedding and a new bathroom but it was the most noisy hotel room I've ever stayed in! Room 33 ...right next to a communal door downstairs...it was so loud with people going by like paddington station it almost sounded like our bedroom door was open! At least I remembered to put the do not disturb sign on the door as the previous times we've stayed there a cleaner has walked straight in our room while we were still in bed at 9am!

Dear J5716AVsarahr, Thank you for your feedback, I am sorry you didn't have a good night sleep, we always recommend discussing any issues with reception at the time of your stay as they may have been able to move you to a alternative room. I think there may be a misunderstanding regarding the person knocking on your door, as housekeeping don't start work until 9:30 so it wouldn't have been a member of staff, this is something that could have been investigated during your stay. Please contact me directly if you would like to discuss this further. Kind Regards, Michaela

Due to illness we booked an overnight stay and could not have been happier. From the moment we arrived we were made welcome. The staff were so friendly and could not do enough to help. I even managed a short swim which I had been longing for since becoming ill. This is not the first time we have stayed here, and hope to return soon.

We have recently returned from a 'virtual cruise' tour to Bournemouth. The only hint that it was a 'virtual cruise' was that a string of flags changed each night in the dining room to represent the selected country and there were selections on the menu to reflect this. Apart from this there was no atmosphere whatsoever in the dining room and no hint of a 'cruise' anywhere else in the hotel. The food served was adequate but not really hot, just dropped on the plate and there was no portion control at all. Although some guests were having the same meal as others some had twice as much. Our bedroom, whenever we entered it, always had an odour of something like cigarette smoke or damp and oddly enough, every day, there were always several flies in the room despite it being so cold. There was no way to control the radiator and when it was on it was always only slightly warm. If the curtains were closed the radiator was completely covered. The double glazing had condensation in between the glass panes so was permanently obscuring any view. The view, as such, from the window was a tip of a yard and the rotten wooden window frames of the adjacent rooms. Have attached photograph. The bathroom had a heated towel rail that was permanently cold with no controls to adjust or even turn on. The grouting between the tiles was supposed to be white but was black and obviously had not been cleaned very often, if at all. See attached photograph. The carpets along the landings were very worn and faded. The carpet on the stairs was extremely worn and in places constituted a dangerous trip hazard. See attached photo. For the number and age group of the majority of guests the lift was totally inadequate, especially on departure day when it was used to get luggage to reception, leaving guests to navigate the torn carpet on the steep stairs. The entertainment lounge, adjacent to the entrance, was always cold as there were no doors to it and the front doors were left open a lot. The ceiling in parts had damp damage and paper hanging off it exactly as it was when we were last there two years ago. This hotel is obviously a cheap, budget hotel by anyone's standards and falls dreadfully short of any expectations. We will not be returning.

Dear 659bobe, Thank you for taking the time to leave your review however it's unfortunate that it is not truly reflective of the truth. The virtual cruise is a unique marketing strategy we have found to be very popular with our groups and have received many positive reviews over the past few weeks relating to this. Coach companies receive the itinerary relating to the virtual cruise months in advance with the optional food choices listed as well as the daily entertainment schedule. I'm not sure what else you are expecting us to do to represent a virtual cruise and welcome suggestions for this. If your food was not to your required temperature I would suggest bringing this to the attention of your server at the time who could address this issue and rectify it for you and some guests had a larger portion as they had requested this on their order sheet, we always do our best to meet our guests requests. The issues you mentioned having with your room, were not discussed with us at the time of your time, had it been brought to our attention we would have looked at resolving these issues or giving you an alternative room. We are aware the hotel is tired in some areas but are working our way through the hotel, refurbishing the bedrooms, corridors and public areas, this is something that takes time but we are active with this. The heated towel rails in the room are operated by a switch, located above the door, this is something we could have informed you, if we had been given the opportunity. Due to the fire risk, we cannot leave these on when the rooms are unoccupied. On the day of departure when we have groups that have porterage included, bags are put in the lift and taken down to reception between the time of 7:00-8:00. We advise our guests with plenty of notice to allow for this, with the amount of bags, our staff need to use this as it would take much longer to bring each bag down the stairs at a time. It's unfortunate that hotel guests leave the front doors open, the reception team are constantly closing it as it does get cold being sat next to the open doors all day, we do our best to manage this minor issue, however we cannot control the actions of other guests. I'm sorry you will not be returning, we are working hard to make improvements and we always offer a great service, please contact me directly if you would like to discuss the matter further. Kind Regards, Michaela

We booked this hotel in October as a surprise for our friends 50th. When we arrived we were told the pub was being redecorated so no access. We got to our room and it was overlooking bins rubbish and a car park - I had emailed the hotel in October to tell them it was a 50th surprise and asked if they could do what they could to make the stay special. The lift sometimes worked and sometimes didnt and made a loud noise so we used the stairs But the stair bannister was being painted so we could use the stairs but not the banister. When I spoke to the lady on reception about the room overlooking bins rubbish and car park she said the hotel was very busy (we booked in October) She then looked and she had 18 rooms free…. She said our group was difficult to accommodate (3 of us) but then said she could offer us a family room if we paid extra £60 each night We didnt mind it being dated and tatty - we did mind the view of bins rubbish and a car park for a seafront hotel and the response we received. The changing room had a cold air fan on and no heaters were working so it was very cold. We frequently walked downstairs and saw dirty bedding outside rooms. Its was such a huge shame for my friends 50th - I felt embarrassed.

Dear Michelle, it's very disappointing that you have written this negative review on every outlet available to you, despite having a conversation with me whilst you were at the hotel. The only issue you raised was that you were un-happy with the view from the room but that the rooms was 'nice'. We discussed the options of an upgrade and I explained I couldn't give it to you for free as I had limited rooms available but I did offer it at a highly discounted rate, which you declined. You had made your booking in October and we offered you a variety of options to upgrade your stay but you made it clear you didn't want to pay for these things. We gave you a nice standard room, however I am sorry it was suitable for you on this occasion. You didn't mention any of the other issues during our conversation, other wise we could have discussed them. We were decorating the Overcliff pub and it was our best time to do so however our Lounge bar was available all weekend with a full menu for our guests and we were painting a banister rail but it was the one going down the stairs to our restaurant which did not affect any access to our bedrooms and was outside of dining times to avoid disturbance. The lift has recently been upgraded and is in full working order, there were no issues over the weekend as you say. I feel that your complaint is not truly reflective of the truth and is a result of not receiving a complimentary upgrade for your room. All of these issues could have been discussed me during your time at the hotel but were not. Kind Regards, Michaela, Front of House Manager

Had a nice one night break here. Undoubtedly the carpets in corridors are in desperate need of replacing and there are other superficial things which could do with updating or improving but you need to look past that. Our room which was a family room with sea view was great and really couldn't fault it. Enjoyed a dip in the pool too. Breakfast was decent although possibly larger plates required. Staff were all great and particular thank you to the lady on reception for help and friendliness (think her surname was Goncales or something similar). Only slight issues were with other guests, woke up to food and litter in corridor outside room and ours and neighbouring rooms balconies were littered with cigarette butts in the morning clearly thrown out of windows from rooms above. Would stay again though without hesitation.

Breakfast . plenty of choices from cooked breakfast to cereal , toast or fruit . very good value for what we payed . bed was great lovely hard mattress and memory foam mattress . they have been investing in what matters most first . after a long break durning covid it couldn’t of been easy .

We have just returned from a lovely 2 day DBB deal and can quite frankly say it was really good 👍😊. We were a little concerned reading some of the bad comments, but apart from there being some tired bits here and there, which they are working on right now, it was really nice. Our room was on 3rd floor and had obviously been recently refurbished. It was clean, bright, comfortable and the bathroom modern. There was a smell of paint in the hallway and some corridors were cordoned off for redecorating. It appears they are working top down, so if you want the chance of a nicer room, ask for an upstairs one. The lounge area was tired, but clean and perfectly useable. The staff were excellent and so attentive. The food was delicious and freshly made. Don't know why someone thought it was just reheated 🤷. Breakfast buffet was plentiful and you had lots of choice. We would definitely recommend it and will be going back. 👍😊
