I’ll start by saying that this is a lovely hotel to look at. The whole place is spotless and well decorated. What is not so lovely is the attitude of some of the staff. We were put in a ground floor room with windows that barely opened and it was excruciatingly hot. I think we were right next to the kitchen which didn’t help. No ceiling fan. No desk fan. No air con. It didn’t make it any better that we had to keep the heavy curtains shut as the window faced out onto a stairwell to some sort of a staff entrance and had people regularly walking past the window and gawping in. It was so bad we had to prop the door open (so every man and his dog could peer in via the full length mirror hanging by the door - but hey, we may as well of had a lack of privacy from both ends of the room, huh?). I had to soak a pillow slip in freezing cold water and drape it over me to get any sleep on the first night. What japes. When we mentioned this to the Duty Manager and said we would like to change rooms she said she had stayed in the room “and had never had a problem” like somehow, as it had been fine for her it should be fine for every other person forever more. Turns out we had to stay in the room as they were fully booked. We went to Argos and bought a desk fan the following morning. Thankfully this meant that we got some sleep the following night. We also had cause to speak to the manager as we had booked a double room via Hotels.com, but we didn’t get a double room. The bed was tiny, and only slightly bigger than a single. There was no way my partner and I could have slept in that bed together particularly given the stifling heat. You could see the room was designed for a much larger bed from the headboard that was fixed to the wall of the room. When we rang reception we were told that we hadn’t booked a “double” but a “mini double”. The lady said the Duty Manager would call us, instead she actually came to the room literally waving a piece of paper round like Lloyd-George stepping off the plane from Berlin with the words “mini double” on. She was not particularly interested when my partner started waving around the booking confirmation which said “double” on it. There wasn’t even an option to book a “mini double” on the site. We were told, quote “it’s not really my problem”. What a terrible attitude. Either the hotel are misrepresenting their rooms on the third party site or allowing them to be misrepresented. Either way, it’s actually not *our* problem as the paying guest. There was no effort to problem solve. We had to ask three times for a single bed to be delivered. It all seemed like too much effort. When it arrived it was a foot lower than the other bed which really added to the romantic ambience of the first child free weekend away since all this Corona business kicked off a million years ago… It could be a lovely place. It may be a 4 star hotel from a decor and amenities perspective. It’s certainly not from a service perspective. I’ve had better in a Premier Inn. Oh. It conveniently located to town.

Booked a double room through hotels.com. Got given room number 1. This room is ground floor yet has steps right outside the window. If you want to have the curtains open you have zero privacy due to people looking straight into the room. Literally right outside the window. The room has a bed which is basically an adult single. Not practical for two people. Had to complain and got a single bed delivered to the room. No aircon, no fan no sleep no privacy never staying again. It’s 4.36am and I wish I was dead. The lack of oxygen in this room is likely to kill me soon though so that’s a bonus. There are a couple of homeless people sleeping opposite the hotel on the pavement, I envy them.

I spent a lovely couple of hours here at the Norfolk Royal Hotel in Bournemouth for Afternoon Tea as a treat. I’ve enjoyed many Afternoon Teas in my time and I would put it near the top of some of the best. I would highly rate and recommend Afternoon Tea here at this hotel. The Staff were very friendly but still professional, polite, attentive and delivered a prompt service with a smile. The food was tasty, and there was a good selection and variety of sandwiches and sweet treats. All allergy concerns were listened to The Hotel was clean, decorated to a nice standard and all Coronavirus protocols were in place and adhered to. I’ve since revisited for lunch and drinks and there was no change with the great standards.

I booked this hotel on the reviews and i was pleased with my choice. the hotel is in a great location and very clean and tidy. We stayed bed and breakfast and had great full English/continental but because of covid the buffet was closed but we got table service and if you wanted extra sausage or bacon etc it was not a problem. the room was tidy and clean with freeview tv ironing board and iron and hair dryer and a fridge that should have been a minibar but covid rules it was empty, but we stocked it our self. Great little indoor pool and jacuzzi, the steam room and sauna was closed because of covid so couldnt review them. nothing was to much trouble staff great. downside not much but parking at £16 per night was not a plus point as i stayed 4 nights so i found a close by parking for £10 per night but Bournemouth is expensive for parking. the other thing was the shower over the bath with a shower curtain mmmm its not great for a 4 star to have outdated showers but the plus point was plenty of hot water. all in all enjoyed our stay and would stay again
