Large Modern Resort style seafront 4 star hotel with over 100 rooms, many rooms with ocean view and balcony or terrace. Two restaurants including Two AA Red rosette award winning Ventana Grand Cafe Brasserie, Stylish and trendy Bar and Miami style lido deck with heated outdoor pool ( May-September), Latin Summer Parties with BBQ's and Chill Beds. Yes, this place needs some improvement (and lots of cash!) and yes, parking can be a bit tight …but we thought this was a great place to be in Bournemouth! What made The Cumberland stand out from the crowd were the staff. With the exception of a guy in a suit who seemed to do very little apart from flirt with the ladies by the pool, all were dedicated to customer service. Without exception, they were charming and even if we did have to wait a little while their dedication and commitment was apparent. Our welcome at reception was among the best I have ever experienced. Well done! On checking out, a minor discrepancy with our account was handled in a professional and empathetic manner. We didn’t eat at the hotel in the evening but breakfast was good. Despite the now ubiquitous Covid measures, feeding the masses ran like a very well oiled machine. We witnessed elderly guests moaning at waiting a few minutes for a table but in our opinion, this was unjustified. The staff were visibly working hard and should be commended. We loved a guy called Zock in particular! He was lovely and nothing was too much trouble. If you like a bit of faded Art Deco in a truly fabulous location along with good old fashioned service, stay at The Cumberland. We would definitely stay there again 😊

This is the 6 or 7th time we've stayed here and given the current circumstances I would say its the best,,, Ive read some of the latest reviews and I would say that some people dont seem to have grasped how bad the situation has been and how well the hotel is coping given the lack of staff, and uncertainty with the future, Yes there are little niggly things wrong but when you see the location you have to take a balanced view, Its always nice to see some familiar faces among the staff and when they recognize you and take the time to stop and talk its even better. The decor is as always , well done in the art deco style, and fits in very well with the outside architecture,,, our room was clean, well decorated and I really couldnt find anything to complain about, the waiting staff are very friendly and professional, and the service at mealtimes worked very well as table service and not buffet service, the food was good, the drink service was excellent, and the dinner meal on the evening of the Diana Ross tribute was probably the best meal I have had there,,, cooked to perfection, big thank you to General Manager Helder Pinto and his staff for what they have achieved in these difficult times, Steve Ash rm 205

The facade , pool and bar area of this hotel are wonderful but the rooms are really not up to scratch for the money (£311) . The bath room really is in need of a refurbishment , rusty floor tiles and patched up wall tiles . The room itself was big enough but pieces of carpet were missing the wardrobe doors had been painted over (when the room was last painted) and the dressing table /desk had pieces cut out of it. Two tea bags and paper cups !! You can do better than this !!

Just returned from a weekend visit with wife, daughter and her family. Booked a double and family room. in advance Dale Clark was very helpful in making the booking and ensured all requests were met. Check in was quick and while one room wa not ready at allocated time it was not a problem and was available within 30 mins of allocated check in time. The outdoor pool was used by us quite a bit and while it can be cold its a good size. The family room was a good size, in fact it was 2 rooms with an interconnecting door and our 4 year old granddaughter enjoyed her 'freedom ' in own room. - rooms 402 & 403. The service for food and drinks can be a 'bit hit and miss' The staff always seem to be very busy rushing around and this is not helpful for service. The bar/ restaurant manager made himself known to us on our first day and advised they have been having a few problems with staff/service since lockdown but its fast being resolved. on the second night we experienced a problem with room and on talking to duty manager Kevin next morning he quickly and professionally resolved this for us. All that said, we enjoyed our stay and would not let a few negative aspects deter us from returning.

Mixed feelings I am not sure I will be booking again. For the price we paid, would have expected more. Totally understand that times have been terrible for this industry over the past year but we had paid a lot and expected a return stay similar to that. All in all this is a nice hotel. But there are some things that make me say it’s not a 4 star hotel. Great location, beautiful views but this place is not cheap and missing some very basic components. It definitely looks better in the pictures. Pros 1. nice spacey rooms - we had the family room with balcony. Plenty space even with the extra single bed 2. Heated indoor poolside outdoor pool takes a while to be warm. 3. Family room with balcony had amazing view. Couldn’t fault it. 4. Covid safe. 5. Good location - easy access to the beach 6. Room was very clean 7. Staff in the breakfast room were very attentive and serving non stop. Kudos to them considering how busy it got. 8. Room had air con / heating. Huge bonus as it did get very warm in there. Cons 1. The advertised Indoor pool and gym are in Suncliff hotel next door and not at Cumberland. 2. Parking - parking is very tight and minimal. Nightmare!!! We struggled every night to find parking. Even though they suggest parking at the other two oceana hotels- it’s impossible!! There were times we had to pay on the street (at own expense!!). When spoke to reception about this they were so blasé about it and her exact words were - ‘we didn’t promise you parking’ 3. Room walls are paper thin. We could hear the tv from next door as if it was playing in our room. Anyone walking in the hallways felt loud!! There was a dog on our floor and most nights could hear him barking non stop. People moving in the room above us could be heard snd I felt sorry for the room below us as my daughter would feel need to jump around. 4. Hotel is dated. Needs refreshing. decor is very garish- all black Red & silver - a bit like an old school night club 5. Randomly our tv remote stopped working one night. We asked reception - they said someone is coming up. We wanted to go bed but couldn’t turn off tv. Half hour later - 11pm My husband had to go reception. They had room number wrong. Issue couldn’t be fixed but they managed to turn the switch off. Resolved next day. 6. Sink tap - the cold and hot was wrong way round so my daughter nearly burnt her hands when washing hands the first day we got in. 7. The quality of breakfast provided was poor with undoubtedly the worst scrambled eggs we have tasted. The bacon tasted more boiled. 8. Overall, Service was slow throughout the hotel except the breakfast 9. Cups not changed - we used the paper coffee cups the night before. They were not thrown out and left on bedside. Was I expected to use the same cups again the next day??? 10. Afternoon tea - I booked this for husbands birthday (in advance). As we had booked hotel room direct we were subject to 10% off any meals in the hotel. When I made the booking they noted this was in the notes. I asked if they can do something special for birthday. They promised they would and noted. On the day of the afternoon tea, I went to see them in the morning and they couldn’t find the booking. But managed to ‘fit us in’ even though it was empty throughout the time we were there. Once again we discussed the discount and the birthday. All confirmed. When we got to the afternoon tea, they did nothing for the birthday and 10% was not applied. When asked they said nothing on notes. I refused to sign charge to the room but they said it’s already charge and cannot do anything. Had to sort with reception 11. Wardrobes would not shut and we had to slam the doors for them to shut! 12. Never seem to have any towels for pool use. Even at 9am they seemed to have run out. We tried at 8.30 and got told they are in the delivery truck. Asked again at 9.30 and still got told they are in the delivery truck 13. There was no fridge in the room, something we have come to expect in every good hotel. As it was hot outside this was an issue. We couldn’t cool water / drinks / food. 14. Lack of amenities in room - no safe, no slippers, no shower caps, no ironing facilities, no complimentary water

Dear k4m4l, Many thanks for your review and for taking the time to share your experience at the Cumberland. I am pleased to read your positives and glad that you appreciated our efforts regarding cleanliness, in keeping everyone safe and the service offered by our staff. Obviously It saddens me to read your negatives, to which I would of course try to reply: 1. Yes, our indoor pool is at The Suncliff, our sister hotel next door. On our website we do advertise a swimming pool but the outdoor one, which is in fact on site. 2. Apologies if the staff response seems to be too blase', leave that with me I will investigate further. We do offer parking at the hotel and also in our sister hotels next door, true. However, we cannot guarantee a space as it operates on a first come first serve basis. Managers are always on hand to offer assistance if required. After all, it is what we do. 3. Apologies about the soundproofing. Some rooms are interconnecting with lockable doors so perhaps I imagine this was the reason. In any case, I am sorry this affected your sleep. 4. The hotel is an Art Deco hotel, as advertised. I am sorry this was not to your liking 5. Apologies about the remote control not being fixed right away for you. I am glad it was sorted for you in the end 6. Thanks for flagging this point to me. It is very odd but I will investigate further. 7. My apologies if breakfast was not to your satisfaction. Our breakfast service and quality receive many compliments most of the times. However, from my experience, I do know that taste do vary according to the individual, in fact I am sure that, had we known this during your stay, we could have tried to offer you something closer to your expectations and/or cooking preferences. 8. With no attempt to find excuses here, our staff got off to a tough start with the reopening. Re-starting after so many months off is not that easy but we are doing our best and we will get there. Thank you for understanding. 9. Of course, this was a mistake on our end. Cups should be replaced on a daily basis, if used and if empty. 10. Miscommunication must have occurred there with the staff. I can only apologise as we usually do put a candle on a dessert for example or at least acknowledge the celebration. 11. I believe this to be a maintenance issue which could have been fixed during your stay 12. Yes, on busy days, the complimentary towels can be in high demand therefore we thank all our guests for their patience. 13 & 14. That is correct, we do not provide fridges in the room however we are happy to store items in our kitchen fridge where they will be safely kept and labelled. Most of the items you mentioned that were not in the bedroom, such as shower caps or iron, can actually be provided in the room on request I do not know if you had the chance to speak with a manager during your stay or before your departure as most likely we could have clarified the above points in person. I am sorry you left the hotel with mixed feelings. Yes, I can see your points there and of course I will take all the comments on board, positive and negative.
