This may be the last review for a while, with Lockdown 2 starting tomorrow, which is a huge shame for all hoteliers ..
We are not remotely surprised that there are circa 500 'excellent' reviews for Jason & Neal's accommodation and hospitality, and virtually no others.
And do notice .. any negatives were pre 2015, with previous owners.
On top of the location, we struggled to recall anywhere (in our wide experience) that compared with the extreme comfort, consideration, quality, professionalism, charm, taste, peacefulness, to name just a few aspects of our stay.
All the information you could possibly need is very neatly and concisely provided, including clear driving directions in advance by e-mail (DO heed them !), the range of local walks, etc, and where to eat out. During Covid, all precautions are taken very seriously, and they have provided amazingly good stews with hot crusty bread, served in the conservatory, to go with drinks. We were glad to save walking or driving out both evenings, with the inclement weather for our visit.
One meets good breakfasts here and there, but when at Highcliffe House, prepare yourselves for an amazingly good experience and quality. OK, you need pre-order the cooked choice the evening before, but where's the difficulty in that ? The range and quality are both fresh and superb.
I could go on for ages, but there's one more adjective to mention, and that's UNPRETENTIOUS. We can't be the only people who find that very important. We like to be impressed on a break, but in an unpreposessing way ..
Congratulations (and thanks again), guys, on everything you've achieved in your Lynton experience .. thoroughly deserved, with the effort you give for your guests !!

We were very impressed with this high end B & B which is situated in a quiet yet convenient part of Lynton. Richard and Robert made us feel very welcome and they are clearly both passionate about providing the best possible experience for their guests.

From the delicious complimentary cream tea with freshly made scone on arrival to the good quality breakfasts with everything cooked just as we like it, we couldn't have found a better place for our stay in Lynton.

The house and bedrooms are beautifully decorated and we were very comfortable in our room which had Alexa and all mod cons. The room was serviced unobtrusively when we had gone out on our travels each morning and we were very pleased with all the COVID safety procedures.

A very enjoyable stay.

This hotel more than exceeded our expectations. On our arrival, we were offered a complimentary cream tea (a Devon custom!) Our room on the top floor was large with superb views over the town to the Bristol channel and the Welsh Coast. We had a 6ft wide doube bed! Nothing was too much trouble for the two owners. We didn't see much of Neal as he was in the kitchen preparing delicious breakfasts and light evening meals for guests who didn't want to go out in the evening. but Jason was 'front of house' and very helpful with suggesting suitable walks. They made a excellent team. Everything was immaculate and spotless. There were only six guest rooms in use, in order that the diningtables were well spaced out.

We had stayed at Highcliffe House in September 2018 and were due to again nearly summer this year, however with Covid 19 this of course could not happen. We were pleased when the un-lockdown was announced and immediately got in touch with Neal & Jason at Highcliffe House to book in for a break.

The attention and detail that they had gone to in terms of keeping the customer front of mind at all moments was just wonderful. Whilst the guidelines for hospitality are stringent everything had been thought of from keeping your own table throughout your stay to a slightly lighter touch in terms of accessories in your room, cushions and any paperwork or magazines.

A full clean took place each morning in the room, and the guys made a real point unassumingly to make the stay special. they are providing as an extra some food in the afternoon and evenings in case people are more concerned with eating out and the breakfast still just incredible has been seamlessly continued with the use of individual pots and servings where necessary.

The licensed bar also helps as you can enjoy a glass on the terrace in the early evening which again helps when pubs or other places maybe more hectic in time. All in all, as I said in my review of September 2018 is still as relaxing and peaceful and bids for a great step into evolved world and important to feel comfortable and welcomed as we move through these more erratic times.

Please take a break and enjoy everything that Highcliffe House and this peaceful place in the world has to offer, you will come away with positivity and confidence. Looking forward to our next visit, thanks you so much guys, as ever, Colin & Neil.

We have just returned from a weekend away and this is where we stayed. We had been recommended Highcliffe House by some friends of ours who had previously stayed there, so we thought we would give it a go. Lovely place- everything we wanted and more. Great room with lovely views, comfy spacious bed, and the entire property was beautiful and really well maintained, and absolutely spotless throughout, but remaining welcoming and relaxing. It has a lovely little bar, the breakfast was great on both days and nothing was too much trouble for the hosts who made us feel very much at home. From the perspective of managing Covid-19, it’s perfect, plenty of opportunities to sanitise and masks were requested while in the public areas. They have also limited the number of guests - which was a positive for us as it added to a feeling of exclusivity.

Much has been said by previous reviewers about the exceptional quality of Highcliffe House. From the moment you enter the hallway you just know that you are walking into a very special place. The combination of the tastefully luxurious decor and furnishings, the flowers, the background music and even the exquisite room scent have been carefully put together to promote relaxation from the moment you step over the threshold.

The owners, Robert & Richard, are the most delightful hosts and met us with a very warm welcome on arrival. The complimentary Devon Cream tea was a wonderful touch and very much appreciated.

Our room was excellent. Only the highest-grade bed linen, pillows, towels, toiletries and refreshments were provided throughout. The standard of cleanliness and attention to detail in the bedroom and public spaces was a credit to the hosts and their small team of housekeepers. It takes a great deal of hard work behind the scenes to achieve this standard and to make it appear so effortless to the guests.

The breakfast menu is extensive, ingredients are fresh and tasty and cooked beautifully by Richard. Table service is provided by Robert who is very attentive without being obtrusive and his gentle Irish brogue is just the thing to start the day. We enjoyed the breakfasts and ate so much we did not need to eat again until the evening!

My husband and I have both travelled quite extensively and, as much as we enjoy holidays, we are both usually ready to go home at the end of the stay. Not so with Highcliffe House. We were both sad to leave and were making plans to return before we had finished our breakfast on the last morning. As I said at the beginning of this review – Highcliffe House is a very special place and Robert & Richard make you so comfortable and welcome, it is as if you are staying at the home of old friends not at a hotel at all. Jackie & Rick x

We stayed at Highcliffe House for a long weekend during the first week of indoor business re-opening from COVID restrictions. On arrival we were greeted with a complimentary afternoon tea in one of the sitting rooms with a panoramic view of the bay which was outstanding. Our room was beautifully decorated with stunning views and all the facilities you could need as well as being scrupulously clean with daily housekeeping. Due to bad weather we spent our evenings in the lounges which are open to guests making the most of the bar and enjoying the conversation of Robert & Richard, the owners who made sure we were well looked after and felt truly welcome.
We cannot wait to stay again and explore more of the beautiful surroundings and wonderful restaurants all within walking distance of this perfectly placed guest house.
Thank you for a wonderful long weekend!

What more can we say about this wonderful B&B.
The moment you walk in ,you are greeted by the friendly owners, Robert and Richard, invited to a cream tea in splendid surroundings in the sitting room with spectacular views over the bay and an array of art work from all over the world.
The welcome attention was manifest throughout our short stay.
The bedroom was most comfortable, enjoying great views, complementary toiletries, fluffy towels … Worthing of any top hotels.
The breakfast was a delight , presentation and taste to satisfy the most fussy guests, a real feast of quality.
What made the stay so pleasurable was also being able to enjoy the company of other guests with Robert in the evening in the beautiful drawing room , with a glass of cool wine!
What more could you ask for!
We hope to be able to return to enjoy such congenial surroundings which were all we needed to escape from this pandemic.
Once more , thanks to Robert and Richard who made our stay most memorable.
À bientôt

Great breakfast cooked by Richard and served by Robert great people very polite
Breakfast is to a high standard, they both are not penny pinches or narrow minded hosts with small things down to bacon and coffee also the shower gels and lotion are expensive premium products. Felt very welcome best place in north Devon
Out of my first holiday in my own embarrassing country this was the only stay I enjoyed. Thanks again

Lynton should apply for Royal Status as in it’s midst they have the king of luxury b&b’s. Highcliffe House stands majestically on top of a hillside overlooking the kingdom of Lynton and Lynmouth and the rugged North Devon coastline.
We have recently spent three nights in this beautiful house and what a treat it was. Our room (The Cleaves) was sumptuously appointed and we were knocked out by the attention to detail and cleanliness. Richard and Robert were the perfect hosts and were always available to offer advice on walks and places to eat as well as taking the time to get to know us and making us feel totally relaxed and at ease.
We will definitely return as long as Richard forgives us for spilling a cup of tea whilst enjoying the complimentary cream tea on our arrival.
Thank you for making us so welcome.

Best Wishes Paul & Wendy
