The hotel is beautifully designed and the staff is throughout outstanding. No complains about that. Also the food on the dinner and the massage were fantastic! But there were some downsides which disappointed us: First, it was cold and the AC in the room was not able to keep the room warm, so we freezed (only in the bed with all blankets we had warm). Second, the room was quite small, not much space left. but still, beautiful design. Third: The water in the shower does get warm, but not really hot. I'd like to shower very hot, and the shower was not able to do that. It was just a little bit too cold to be really comfortable. Additionally, there was a screwdriver and some dirt on the shelf, like the room was not completed. Breakfast: This was the most disappointing thing, we expected a buffet. but on the first day we've only got an Omlette which was burnt a little bit. We did now fully understand and knew that there is more to order. On the second day it was more clear what we could have. But maybe you should provide a menu with all options as long it is not a buffet but a la cart. Last but not least, I've got the wrong massage. It was fantastic, no complains about the massage I've got, but still it was the wrong one. Maybe there was an organizational issue somewhere. So in the end, there is a lot to improve at this hotel. It maybe just needs some more time that all processes work fine, but until then, I can recommend it only partial.

Dear Reaast Thank you for choosing Vivari to spend a few days. I am terribly sorry that your experience was not great. Since the hotel is newly opened and the staff are not adequately trained I suspect that is why the experience was not a positive one. However since the hotel is part of the Accor portfolio, extensive staff training is been undertaken to ensure that staff comply with a five star offering especially in the restaurant area. With regard to the AC in your room, I am really sorry did that it did not warm the room and I have asked a technician to look into it. What regard to the hot water, I suspect that due to the hotel being new and not used much, the water in the ring main perhaps took a long time to heat up. Please reach out to me info@vivarihotel.co.za when you are back in Joburg so I may try to compensate for the bad service.

Firstly the facilities at the hotel and spa are first class and beautiful and clean.
Our room was exactly same.
But more importantly it was the service and attention to detail that stood out. Your staff went out of their way to be so accommodating and nothing was ever too much. This includes the ladies at the spa as well.
The entire atmosphere is one of absolute calm and relaxation, and we spent the entire weekend commenting how absolutely blessed and privileged we were that this was on our doorstep. Every single detail was cared about, thought our and so zen-centric.
A special mention must be made of Pule who was just the most professional and helpful person. He organised everything needed for specific dietary requirements and constantly went above and beyond. The effort did not go unnoticed.
Everything from the background music throughout the day, the facilities to the service and attitude of the staff was excellent.

I went for a night with my husband to hotel hoping for 5 star experience as they are supposed to be
Firstly on entrance they asked me to pay for the hotel when I had already sent proof is payments weeks ago. No one knew this prior to our arrival
Our room was nice and that’s just about where it ends
The service itself is terrible. A few friendly faces but most seemed extremely untrained!
The spa pool was out of service.
And then comes breakfast. We left for breakfast at 9:30. There is no buffet you have to order from the menu
We simply ordered scrambled eggs on toast which took 1 and half hours to come!! A hot drink came first with no pastries (which we also ordered) and we ordered cereal. NOTHING came. The eggs came one a half hours later after complaining so many times and a trip to the reception.
People in the restaurant also left and the service was just pathetic.
They are extremely untrained and definitely not worth for a 5 star hotel!
I complained to the reception and told them we barely ate anything and all we got is a “sorry”
The price for this hotel is extremely ridiculous for what you get.
I went to 4 star hotel the night before at Thaba Eco hotel and they really deserve a 5 star rating.
Vivari hotel is definitely not 5 star.
Definitely do not recommend

Dear Naeema I am terribly distressed to hear about your poor experience at Vivari. There is no excuse for the shoddy service except to say that the hotel is newly opened and the staff are not adequately trained. I have taken heed of your comments about the poor breakfast experience and would like to reach out to you to see if we can remedy the situation. The rooms are heavily discounted because teething problems were expected, but not to this degree for which I am deeply apologetic. Can I ask that you please contact me on info@Vivarihotel.co.za so that we can try to improve on what was a bad experience for you?

The rooms are great. Spacious. I stayed in the luxury room it’s balcony.
Aircon works perfectly. Bed huge and firm. Like the decor. Bathroom great. Shower good.
The spa is incredible. The therapists and manager brilliant.
The wet area was private and comfortable. The issue here was the sauna. Not hot enough. Luke warm. Jacuzzi and steam room great. Our treatments perfect.
Dinner was awful due to extremely noisy function above the dining room. I wanted a tranquil experience with my husband instead got a room filled with so much noise it was unpleasant. Please notify your guests beforehand.
Food was good but not worth the extravagant amount they charge for it. The prices are Michelin Star but quality just above average.
The music from the dining room area is loud and you cannot keep your balcony open.
At 6am they start with the Elevator Music which is most unpleasant when all you want to do is hear some birds and silence with the door open.
Husband and I wanted to shower at 9am Sunday morning. No hot water!
Breakfast was average. Some tables not clean. Dirt still under the tables.
The continental offerings are ok. Eggs Benedict was underwhelming. Did advise one of the staff.
This hotel could be exceptional and had potential!

Thank you for taking the time to comment on your hotel stay. We appreciate all the constructive comments. We will review all the shortcomings highlighted such as the sauna not being hot enough, the noisy function, quality and value for money of the food and the music around the hotel complex which was meant to give the areas some atmosphere and character not to annoy you in anyway. Unfortunately, the hot water issue was as a result of the persistent load shedding which did not allow the generator enough time to heat the water in the geysers in the morning. We are looking at alternative sources of power to ensure there is electricity available 24 hours a day at the hotel. We intend to address all the points raised, recognize the need to improve and ensure that we always do the very best for all our guests. We sincerely apologize for the experience you had at the property and appreciate the positive comments that you had also mentioned. Management Vivari Hotel and Spa.

The hotel and grounds are great. Rooms are modern and clean, fast Wifi and include in room Netflix. The "jogging" track is possibly oversold as it is effectively a 1km loop around the 500m of fencing running parallel to the river.
The hotel caters more to conferences rather than the holiday or business traveller. It has a fantastic spa the grounds and pool are lovely, serene and very zen-like.
The staff are what shatters the peace and quiet of this beautiful place. They shout, constantly, from one end of the restaurant to the other, from the bar to the restaurant even outside rooms in the hallways. Checking in I thought there was a party in the small reception area. There were 4 staff members engaged in a rowdy "discussion" - I felt like an inconvenience, the noise was defining when entering.
Perhaps the single biggest disappointment was the extortionate food and beverage costs. Two SINGLE gin and tonics (standard gin nothing special) were R420!!!!. Meals in the restaurant are similarly outrageously priced, meal are ok but not Micheline standard yet prices are right up there while service is nowhere near the price point.
My recommendation for food and drink is to grab an Uber and a 5 minute trip to either Silverstar Casino or Cradleston Mall will provide a plethora of tasty well well-priced options.

This is a very modern hotel, with great architecture and furnishings. Staff were all very friendly, and the food was very good. The hotel definitely has some teething issues though. Room was freezing because there were gaps between the door and door frame, so the heater couldn't cool the room properly. Water spilled out from the shower into the bedroom carpet. In the morning there was a just a trickle of water, couldn't take a shower. This happened all morning until I checked out.

What a wonderfully relaxing and reinvigorating spa experience! I enjoyed every moment - from walking into reception, to the lunch and treatments. The spa is beautifully laid out, smells wonderful and is clean. All staff are very helpful and friendly. My therapist listened to my needs and was very capable. I’d highly recommend this spa to all my friends and anyone looking for a good break from the ordinary day-to-day.
