Love the location: a scenic, five-minute walk up the linear park to get into town. The Inn is tucked behind some lovely falls. It's great to have a restaurant run by a microbrewery onsite. Overall, the inn is cozy with good ambiance, and the quality and variety of food at the continental breakfast is pretty decent. But some caveats: we stayed in the suite and although it has a wonderful spa bath and bathrobes are provided, there are no toiletries other than liquid soap, so best to bring your own everything. There's also no shower in the en-suite washroom. Finally, as other guests have mentioned, the walls are very thin and even in the suite which seems like an annex to the main house, you will hear music from the restaurant until it closes around 10, and footsteps and voices from the upper floors of the main bulding. If that was all, we would probably have figured the $150 + tax per night for the room was reasonable given the scarcity of accommodations within walking distance of Val David's excellent restaurants and nightlife. But unfortunately, during our two-day stay, the staff really seemed to be having an off-period, service-wise. The driveway, which is quite steep, was an ice rink (we watched one patron take a hard spill) but it was 24 hours before staff put sand down in front of the main entrance. Getting in and out of our suite was also a challenge given the snow/ice encrusting the patio entrance. Although we didn't mind the ambient pub music (or the hours the children of the family having a party spent running up and down the hallways overhead) I did draw the line when staff were playing thumping techno music for themselves in the reception area adjacent to our room before the restaurant opened for the evening as it resonated very clearly in the suite. To their credit, they willingly complied, but it's always a bit of a downer to have to ask staff to be considerate of guests. We were also asked to confirm exactly when we would come down for the complimentary breakfast as we were the only overnight guests the first night but when we arrived at the dining room the next morning at the appointed time, we were told that they were understaffed and would have to come back in thirty minutes. Luckily we weren't in a hurry and these things happen, but it just seemed like one thing after another. Finally, nobody seems to freshen the rooms during the day: I guess they don't make beds or rehang towels as a general service but we are generally ok with that although many lower-priced accommodations will do this but the suite provides a coffee maker, microwave and teacups and wine glasses which we all used the first night and which weren't replaced with clean ones. There was only one coffee filter so basically we were limited to making one batch per stay or else again having to impose on the staff. I enquired about this at reception when we checked out and and they seemed to agree that it should have been done in principle but it wasn't 100% clear if it was a matter of practice. The bright point, service-wise, was the lovely women who served us breakfast Saturday morning and made us a roaring fire in the wood-burning stove. So for a one-night stay in Val-David, we would consider going back for sure, the patio must be fantastic in the summer. For more than that, I think we'd look elsewhere unfortunately.…
