Stayed for two nights in The Clarence Suite. Lovely huge room. The staff were friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Close to shopping and entertainment. Great for relaxing. Breakfast was full English. The gardens are well tended, perfect for picnicking. Huge maze. Great venue for events and time out!

We visited Chartwell during the school holidays for a morning. We read about it in a local publication which spoke about it having an authentic Cypress maze.
What a beautiful place. Tamara showed us the inside of the castle and took us on a little tour of the garden.
It's by no means an authentic castle, but is really quaint and has been rebuilt from the rather quirky beginnings to what it is now.
The rooms we saw were well appointed in a really quiet almost rural, but yet not too far from the hustle and bustle of Sandton, setting.
The maze is great fun for the kids. Please respect the growth of the maze and don't allow children to take shortcuts through the hedges as this damages this beautiful heritage.

We stayed here for 4 nights. The location is very convenient to see interesting sights, e.g. lion park or cradle of humankind. Room was beautiful and clean. Staff not always that friendly though, ladies got a little upset when we said we'd rather just had the cold buffet instead of the full hot breakfast on first day. Also nobody seemed really interested in us or helping us with tips, as we have experienced it in all our accomodations before in SA.

We book for a for 4 nights so we can relax because we have an event on the castle. First the rest of my family where unable to book only my sister has able to book because the caste was full, bust strange only was us on the caste my sister just stay for 2 days and we stay for 4 days alone there. We stay on Lancaster suit, and we listen some noise coming from the roof and when we ask about 1 day later they told us that someone was living there we listen that noise for 4 day and it was happen between 11 pm to 3AM so we could rest. The strange they did not change us to another room.

Breakfast
The staff at the hotel I only se one old lady se was the one who made us breakfast for the 4 days, se try a lot to impress, but only eggs and bacon to cook it was difficult, and also she tried a lot to do omolet but I don’t recommend. The strange at the restaurant they have good food and well looking food. Please check the value date of the product.

Hotel cleaning
Only the bed was done, and the towel was change is you ask so. The don’t wipe or clean the bathroom, even put more shower gel. I was very desapointed with the cleaning.

Garden and pool
Is very beautiful and well maintained and it’s a good place to have kids playing

Restaurant
The food was good at least the looking, because the day we try to eat there they said there’s no food because the all food has for the event that was happening at the garden, strange the restaurant has open.

Some excellent reviews and entering the stunning garden with beautiful buildings, conjured up expectations of an idyllic three days. These hopes were shattered the minute we stepped over the threshold. The endless potential of the house remains fully untapped. We were met by a dour lady who did no more than direct us to our room. The staff, though friendly, are unprofessional. The worst part was the shower windows, which literally looked as it they had not been cleaned for many years. I cannot recommend this guest house.

Stayed here for about 2 days and had an amazing experience. Penny's are the most lovely hosts i have ever seen. They made sure i feel at home and cooked lovely home made meals for me. They had been to India so we shared a lot of stories about their experience there. I was staying in a room called Buckingham Suite which was lovely with a bathroom as big as the bedroom. Nice and Cosy place. The Penny's were also very protective since i was a lone lady traveler and guided me while i was in Johannesburg with some valuable advice.

What a week it has been. With hundreds of messages complimenting me on the most romantic proposal most have seen. I can only thank Chartwell Castle! With its already perfect setting , I didn't have to do much, yet the staff still went the extra mile to make our special day more unique and memorable.

Clint and team, I really appreciate the effort you put in to ensure that everything was perfect with the sudden and tight timeline. Thanks to all of you for a day that will never be forgotten.

Poor really where disappointing, We saw so many good reviews on their fb page yet it was just the opposite.
The grounds are great witjh loads of potential yet we discovered potential is all it has for now....
The staff really tried their best to accommodate us where they can but one can see their resources are far and in between.
The ground staff are bombastic, unhappy and unfriendly.. It was a touch and let go experience for us.

Our family stayed at the castle for a night before And after a safari. It is a beautiful property with lovely grounds. You really feel like you're in an ancient castle. The hedge maze was fun for the kids. The only drawback is that the property is a bit remote. You have to take a taxi to get food, although there are some delivery eateries nearby. The MonteCasino complex is 15 minutes away with many dining & shopping options. I would highly recommend this place. The prices are very reasonable as well.
