We had a wonderful stay at the Briars resort for new years eve (3 couples). The food was excellent! The staff were all very friendly and accommodating. I found the prices were good for what we got (2 nights in a suite, 2 breakfasts & 2 dinners and a DJ for new year's eve). This was my 3rd time going and I absolutely love it there. I want to thank all the staff for giving up their new years eve by working, we all had an amazing time !

Great location for the area but its definitely time for some reno's. Very dated from Lobby to rooms. They were clean just old. Staff were amazing and friendly. The grounds landscaping is very well done. The best part is the Golf course. I play a lot around the area and this is quite the well maintained course and a good challenge. I highly recommend coming here if your a golfer its really amazing and in pristine shape.

I was in Room 212. The carpet was dated and stained. To top it all, after I checked out, I realized that I left my coat in my room in the closet. So I reported it to the front desk who gave me the key to my room, but there was no coat and the room was cleaned. Three days now and they tell me they've made a report but don't have my coat. Sad.

We stayed in room #208, from Sunday, October 8 to Monday, October 9, 2023. We paid $379 ($435 total) for bed and breakfast, and we believe that it is an absolute rip-off. At that price, we expected to receive a certain level of service and, unfortunately, our expectations were not met. Our intention was to spend a nice and relaxing time in what is announced as a "luxurious resort" and a "4-star hotel", rating seen when looking up the resort on the Internet. In our opinion, it is anything but luxurious or highly rated: we have traveled a lot (and stayed in about 90 hotel rooms!) and we KNOW what luxurious or "4-star" hotel means. Upon entering the room, we were immediately struck by the tired furniture and worn-out carpeting. The bathroom was a remnant of the 1970's : everything was old and past its due date. When we used the shower, there were 2 inches of water at our feet. The A/C system was so noisy that I had to turn it off after hours of not sleeping. There was a bug in one of the drawers. The overall condition of the room was very disappointing and left us feeling uncomfortable during our stay. Finally, we paid an extra $30 for a "lakeview room", and were truly shocked that we could see only a small parcel of Lake Simcoe between a few trees. This is plain false advertising, and the room was absolutely not worth the extra money. At around 5:30 pm on the evening of October 8, we went to the restaurant, and were told to make reservations for dinner with the Front desk. What an odd practice... We were told that our reservation would be at 7 pm, which was too late for us. What kind of luxury resort cannot offer dinner to its guests when the restaurant was clearly open and empty? We were hoping that breakfast would save the trip, as we had looked at the menu in advance. Unfortunately, only an ordinary buffet option was offered - again, what kind of luxury resort doesn't offer its own à-la-carte breakfast menu? I wrote to the Management and nobody ever got back to me. Stay at the Ramada Jackson's Point : there you get what you pay for.

The staff are very nice and as always the grounds are beautiful and the food was good. the venue for the dining room is oppressive but the bar is very nice. However the maintenance on this property is substandard. Some of the rooms were not clean and the common areas were not properly maintained. The outdoor pool has been broken for some time and 2 years in a row it has not been operative. The indoor pool also did not work when we were there and it was closed. This resort used to be the jewel of the region. Unfortunately it is no longer the case.

Nice location, nice looking building, but needs maintenance. Overall the hotel is tired. The outside pool that we saw was closed and looked like it had been for some time as there was dust / leaves etc all over the cover. We stayed in Sunny Cottage which is big and quite nice but some of the outside areas eg outside of windows were very dirty especially in places that are hard to get to . There are stairs down to the basement where there is a plant room which you can't access, but visible through the doors and another large unused open room with no door with rubble all over the floor. If you had small kids you would have to watch that they stayed out of there as there are no doors to the room or the stairs. In the small garden there is a nice view of the lake, but apart from a small grassed area its rather overgrown. There are some remains of old decking steps that have fallen away down towards the lake. We had a party of four for which we were given two towels and one robe.

Date of stay - Saturday May 20th 2017 My apologies for such a late review. I am just now catching up on everywhere, and The Briars is a must review. I was traveling with my Mother for her birthday and wanted to surprise her with The Briars as she stayed there when she was younger and enjoyed it very much. Check-in was smooth and speedy. Our room was outdated and a very small bathroom. We decided to walk the grounds before dinner. They are very well kept and clean. After that we decided to eat at the restaurant. (We did open our bottle of wine from the hotel and took it with us to restaurant) Walking to the restaurant my Mother was holding my arm as she often does. (She has suffered 3 strokes and drags her right side of her body). We were greeted by a snobbish manager who took our wine, ok our mistake. He then told us we couldn't buy wine in the restaurant as my Mother was intoxicated!! What a joke! She's had a stroke. Well with no apology from him we were allowed a bottle of wine with our mediocre dinner. The wait staff were all great and were very apologetic on behalf of the manager. I did take pics with most the staff as I planned to write this year's ago. The staff was so embarrassed the manager behaved that way. We skipped dessert as my Mother wasn't happy, can you blame her? Upon check-out I told front desk about everything that occurred and was snobbish as well and comped us a bottle of wine!! Lol The Briars is a joke I strongly suggest Eganridge which we went to the next day and had a fantastic time.

The room was small, the TV was tiny, there was no air conditioning in the dining room, the whole place smelled of musty, mouldy carpets, and they told us the week before that the pool was open but when we arrived, they told us it was closed. We canceled our reservation on the spot and drove home. Never go back.

Went for bunch and it was terrible. I was very disappointed as I had promised our friends a real treat and thought the Briars would put on a nice Sunday brunch. The staff were pleasant but the brunch might have been the worst I’ve ever had. I sure hope it improves but I doubt I will ever return to find out.

I've visited this resort many times over the last 15 years. And, as someone else said: not much has changed. The views are still spectacular, the resort is charming & we were blessed with excellent weather. However, so many things need to be updated. These things can of course impact your stay! Unfortunately for us, the pool, sauna & games room were under renovations while we were there. My room on the second floor had a gorgeous view but smelled faintly of mold -- especially in the bathroom. Twice when I used the main bathrooms in the basement near the dining room, they were dirty with no paper towels -- even after I told a server that they were out of paper towels the day before! Our dinner tasted good (I had the salmon, salad & cheesecake) & was high quality but the portion size for everything was too small -- and I'm not a big eater. The breakfast buffet was sub-par at best. I'm a vegetarian (eat eggs & fish). The scrambled (?) eggs were disgusting & the pears were hard and still had stickers on them. Our corporate team-building was fun but the Briars leader was very odd, almost bossy which was an odd choice for a group of adults. I didn't pay for my stay as it was business trip so I can't speak to the total cost but I feel that the food, cleanliness of the rooms, main building and grounds can be improved.
