Great location not too far from the city centre (a pleasant walk along the river takes you straight into the city centre). Clean hostel, good facilities, friendly and helpful staff. Well-equipped kitchen for self-catering.

Not sure on the distance but we got a taxi it cost about £10-12 I think...and took 10-15 minutes. We were told it would take 45 minutes to walk if I remember correctly.

We had a family room which did consist of bunk beds. But it maybe worth contacting the hostel to see if they have rooms with double beds. The hostel was a mixture of all types of people students, families, lone travellers but a lovely atmosphere. I would have no doubt in recommending it. Hope you enjoy

I've stayed at York YHA and YES, they do have iron and ironing board available (in the communal laundry room) for guests. Hope this helps.
